My biggest takeaways from this NBA season are: The “superteam era” is officially over (Thank God). The “small market” era is here. Foreign players are going to dominate the NBA for the next 5-10 years. ESPN is not going to be happy at any of this news. Yes Stephen A, enjoy your hotel stays in Milwaukee, Denver, and possibly San Antonio or Sacramento when watching the NBA Finals for the next half a decade.

The Denver Nuggets are what we call an Organic team. Build up from ground up and if they complete their metamorphosis & find the Click without Jokiç having to do the heavy lifting they can win championship back to back.Every player has a role & they played it well so am hoping to see what more the Nuggets team has to offer especially since even a Rookie showed promising signs.They are Dynasty in the making & Jokiç is humble which will be like a blue print for other stars how join Nuggets in future and will help avoid a Ja Morant discipline issue happen. Plus the talent around Murray and Jokic wasn't as developed as it is in 2023. They finally got a big wing defender in Aaron Gordon and his impact along with Jokic was superb. MPJ finally shook off the injury bug (for now) and showed up in the playoffs. Bruce Brown was a big boost as he's like a smaller version of what Gordon brings (but will probably get poached by a team looking to pay him his bag). KCP was a boon as well. Overall they got bigger bodies and stronger defensively around their center pieces.

I said from the beginning of the playoffs, this season had more parity than any season since 99, and if any season felt like an 8 seed had a chance to get to the finals, it was this one. It doesn’t surprise me that a season in which the highest playoffs seeds and the lowest playoff seeds had the fewest games separating them led to some underdog teams getting farther than expected.

Yes, but we should also be fair in noting it was the easiest playoff run (relative to seed) in history. They played a 4-seed, 7-seed, and two 8-seeds. And yes, I know the Suns and Lakers were better than their records after the trade deadline, but still... Denver was never really challenged and certainly didn't have to face another top team.

@eno - They got bounced by lesser teams. You know how in the NCAA tournament when a 16 has beaten a 1? That doesn't mean the 1 sucks and the 16 is amazing, it just means top teams lose sometimes. Milwaukee couldn't keep Giannis healthy and the Celtics clearly had a mentality issue... and yes, both of those teams lost to the Heat, but even after all that, no one actually expected to do anything with the Nuggets, which is why the Nuggets were one of the biggest Finals favorites in history.

The point about the pressure is looking it from the wrong perspective. There was even greater pressure on Jamal for missing practically 2 seasons and coming back than if they failed to win with him if he was healthy. The thought of not being able to play ever again after such injuries, even if the rehab nowadays is way more advanced, is a real one.

Scary thing is the Nuggets have figured out the new CBA before anyone else. They have shunned free agents and vet minimums for maintaining the bench through the draft. They drafted two 23 year olds who were 5-year starters in college and have over 100 college games under their belts. They are ready to go straight away. They were overlooked and undervalued by other teams because of age. They were signed to the max 4-year rookie contracts. This will give them cost-controlled quality off the bench while still being able to resign/extend Murray, Porter, AG and KCP.

Why do we compare stat lines like “only player to lead in points, rebounds and assist” as if that is a goal and not a feature of style of play and team system. Give Jokic who I agree is best in the league credit but comparing to others is misleading because for instance classic offense with true points guards would eat up most of the assist and not the center or shooting guard.

That’s my point. He is skilled enough and his assist numbers are inflated because he initiates the O. Jokic is a better passer than Embiid…but…the difference in passing is overestimated because of Denver’s play style. Sure 76ers can run more actions to open up passing lanes but there are more ways to win basketball games than playing that way. And that’s my central point…that player stats is part an effect of team system so unless u decouple it, it’s misleading to compare.

@@Shortballa11 na it’s them, yea they have been successful in past years but they were one of the worst scoring teams all szn and 3 pt shooting teams. Their role players were hot and Jimmy was at his peak who also had teamates who made every open 3 thrown up, he’s gonna do what he’s gonna do an all around star player. some could argue when Tyler herro got hurt the ball spreader around to everyone. You’d be silly to say that Jimmy didn’t have much help that’s the reason they got to the finals he did most of the heavy lifting but the role players played the best they could possibly play the whole EC and then reality checked in. Jimmy started to have bad games in the Celtics series but Caleb Martin was unbelievable up 3-0 and ended up being a game 7 coulda been why they were “worn out” and bam was the best heat player in the finals while Jimmy was at best pedestrian the whole series . So Jimmy basically got them there and the heat didn’t have enough fire power 2 contend with the nuggets. Couldn’t score 100 basically all series, shot what they did in the regular szn and again was one of the worst scoring teams in the reg szn. Gr8 coaching, experience, good execution, resilience and Jimmy will get you a series or a couple maybe even to the finals as we seen the last few years. But he’s being nice saying they had a punchers chance there was no way they could have beaten the nuggets 4 times anyone who knows a little bit of basketball knows they were completely outmatched and dominated physically and mentally. Was the first coach spo couldn’t coach circles against
@Shortballa11
@Shortballa11 Жыл бұрын
@@bookabaka1074 Yes, they barely made the playoffs, but the fact they have been there already gave them the experience to get back to the finals. They are not an ordinary 8th seed. So the team itself was not the definition of a punchers chance and the role players mostly did their job. So basically if Jimmy just played like Jimmy. Which is an efficient 22 n 7 guy with defense then its a competitive series. We all know they were undertalented, but when you have dogs and the best coach it makes up for a lot

If Murray was really fully healthy last year they would have beaten Golden State, full stop. All 3 games after the first two went down to the final minutes and Jokic was the best player in the series. The point you make about the road record is also a bit weird given that a year ago Denver was GREAT on the road (25-16) and in the playoffs they were also great on the road. I would anticipate that next year Denver will be back to being firmly above .500 on the road. That said on the whole, good stuff here Ryen. No it's not even close. I know he had a rough ending, but Harden could never do what this man has done the last four years in Miami.

It’s funny how Kawhi is never mentioned anymore as a top player. When healthy in the playoffs he’s a Top 3 guy easily. And plays defence. Yet people just forget because he’s hurt so often.
