I suggest scraping that layer of topsoil off and saving it off to the side. That way you know for certain you will have some good topsoil to finish the project with in the case that you hit more fill type material further down in that mound

I've never noticed that hump until now. The drone video clearly shows the outline of the hump. Maybe fill in the pond? Eager to see this series through. God Bless!

It rains so much here in SC that roundup doesn’t last anywhere near as long as it claims. Here I was thinking the hump was a high and dry area. I dug a pond on our property in AK and did use the dirt to create a high area for privacy along the road. Filled in the pond with the same dirt when we sold it.

Best pun ever. I’m just TILLING IT as it is😂 Our county sucks. My grandparents live in a flood plane and them and the neighbors lose so much from floods and the county won’t let us do anything about it. I’m considering getting a lawyer involved in the future cuz this has been an ongoing thing for 20+ years.

You are right about the sunset, wow. But that view from the drone, a true definition of a flatlander. Wish I could use a tiller, too many rocks on my property, would tear it to pieces. I'm in the California foothills.

I had a mound like that in my front yard, when I was growing up. Unfortunately it was the septic drain field (we had high ground water) so we had to leave it alone. Great video, thanks!

That Maschio Tiller is doing fantastic! My experiences doing sod with a small tiller are not so fun. The tiller jumps all around and it takes a number of passes to get to depth.

I look forward to watching this! Enjoyed this video. I spread 40tons of gravel few days ago in a 30x60 pole barn using a full size backhoe, then a full size tractor with a loader and a hay spike LOL. It is a challenge to just turn around with either. I was thinking boy I sure wish Tim was here on the 1025R! You have really changed my mind on the practicality of mini tractors I am thinking next year the 50hp I have will sell and move to a 30.

Glad to see you using the 1025R. After I tilled my garden the first time this spring, ~80'x40', I told my wife we needed a bigger garden. It didn't take long enough to till! An idea for any issues getting a good stand of grass there: make that a sweet corn patch! That looks like a good size for growing sweet corn to freeze.

When I was younger i saw my uncle change the landscape of one of his fields, it was hilly, and he flattened it out, but he used a bulldozer, It will be interesting to see what you do next to this field. I must say you have a nice looking place. You do need a red barn .

Great video Tim, sounds like a fun video series. Looking forward to seeing your family chipping in and your dads cab 3R is favorite of mine on your channel. Personally once you leave the 4ft tillers sizes it is best to move on to more traditional tillage equipment say a disk or other non PTO powered tillage implements.

It looks like you're getting a good start. As long as your patience doesn't run out you'll be able to get it done with the tractors you have at your disposal. I'm surprised you didn't use the GPS guidance for the tilling. It looks like a large project for small tractors. Small tractors doesn't it can't be done. It just means that it might take a little longer. Good luck and look forward to seeing Johnny X put to work.

Best thing you could do with all the dirt you remove is fill in that mud puddle, i.e. "pond". It's mostly just a mosquito hatchery. :-)

I know for fact that pond was dug between late 2005 and early 2006 I'm sure you know this but don't forget to set that first layer of topsoil aside to top dress your final grade.

I just removed a 2 foot hill bank 60 foot wide and took it back 24 feet. My biggest time consumer was getting the dirt from the working area to 100 yards or so where I was piling it up for later uses. It's alot more dirt than I guessed. I only used my bucket with a tooth bar and a box blade. I will find real interest on how you accomplish this task Tim.

I knew a couple who went to the town and requested a permit approval for a 8ft tall privacy fence. The town denied the permit for a fence but the couple learned they did not need a permit to haul in loads of soil for a "natural feature" in the shape of a 10ft high berm.

I kind of liked the hump. It gave the property a little more interest than just a flat plane. But, I live in an area of lots of hills and mountains so to each their own.

Having tilled all sizes of gardens with a Troy Built tiller I can say the 1025R and the Mascho is the way to go. If you wait 3-4 days and go back over the tilled area the soil will break down easily!! I assume you will be moving and dumping the soil to several areas so fine soil is easily let to move and level no matter what machine you utilize..,

We had a frontier tiller on our 1023E. Cast mounting arms broke many times. Repaired with 1/2 X 2 flat bar. Mount for Maschio 2 piece aluminum gearbox bent, eventually gearbox broke in two. Total junk. We now have 48" Woods tiller with same cast iron gearbox as 60" tiller and gear drive to the tines.

@@TractorTimewithTim can't remember model number, it was 48" with chain drive to tines. Master link came apart once. We have lots of rocks in Willamette valley in Oregon. Ground gets so hard in summer we have to before we can till.

I would load your trailer and add lots of fill/widen all your berms/levees. And I say load the trailer cause I am not sure how far you need to move material. Dragging seems slow if you have any distance to move.

As I’m sitting here watching this video it brought to mind a company that make dirt pan scrapers for compact tractor that would seem pretty nice for a project like this. Hoelscher Commercial Products is the manufacturer, the scraper is the DB series. Can’t wait to see the final grade on this project.

You have a giant gorgeous property. I would have left the hump there and planted corn on it every year. For more privacy and seclusion.

I would put that dirt along the side where the new development is going in. Then plant trees along the top for privacy. You would have a good headstart on that and the neighbors are not there yet to complain. The builders would fix any drainage issues before the homes are completed.
