Here is how I use the Macros feature of Ableton Live's Rack Devices to design sounds that behave like instruments rather than synth sounds/presets. Assigning multiple parameters to a single knob or fader forces you to commit to limitations. These limitations allow you to be more creative by forcing you to focus on the strengths of the instrument rather than getting lost in the endless possibilities of the DAW or software synthesizer. The beginning and ending of the video feature improvisations using the instrument as an arpeggiated synth bass along with atmospheric Fender Rhodes electric piano and fusion drums.
