If you make another head in the future, tape half of the base, and use that to pattern, you'll end up with 2 very even halves instead of one big piece that risks being slightly off at times. For eyebrows, you could make removable orange eyebrows that stick with a magnet or velcro.
@strawberrybluu6 ай бұрын
This method only works when your base is perfectly symmetrical.. And with newer makers that’s usually not the case! So it ends up being safer to tape the entire head
@Kasperanzaa5 ай бұрын
@@strawberrybluu definitely true! That’s why I taped the whole thing because I could tell it wasn’t symmetrical

You did a great job and he looks so cute! When you add a neck to it, it will tie it more together. The "Puffy" cheeks are due to the base more so then the fur itself, but it adds a more chibi-like look to him. In all, you did an incredible job for your first try!! I hope you keep going! I would love to see your journey of growth and development of your craft! You are sooo talented!

Also a here's some tips for anyone who needs it: most of the time you don't need to tape the full head if the pattern is the same! Be careful with what fur you get, sometimes it could get really bad if you get it too short, your better getting longer than needed. ALWAYS make a few cut outs of the fur you used so you can test it in case you aren't familiar with the fur you are using and do not know how to wash it, if you can't, thats okay! wow that's really good for a first try!! honestly pretty cute!!! what could help a lot for getting that symmetrical look with the fur would be to only tape up half of the head, and use that same pattern for the other side since it has symmetrical patterns!
@Kasperanzaa9 ай бұрын
Thanks! That's an excellent tip for saving time, but I didn't do that because I could tell the foam base was asymmetrical, so I knew that if I only did half and mirrored it over the faux fur wouldn't have glued on properly.

i recommend, if you have one, a large blanket to put on your floor so u dont find tiny bits of foam in 10 years time if u use foam again. also if u make another head (especially for the ears and horns), make paper prototypes to see how it fits on the head and so u dont waste foam! last point, u can smooth out the shaved fur with scissors to get a cleaner look. really good head overall!!!

I literally just finished working on the face for my first fursuit yesterday!! (She's a cat c:) You did an awesome job on this and you should be really proud! :D A little tip for handsewing: Use a blanket stitch when connecting the pieces! I'm pretty sure it's one of the strongest stitches. I use a ladder stitch when connecting the pieces from the outside, because it's invisible. For example, when I stitched the ears to the head, I did a blanket stitch all around! Great work again and I hope this helps! ^w^
@Kasperanzaa7 ай бұрын
Isn't it awesome to finally finish it!? It's such an exciting feeling. To see your character come to life and then being able to wear it, after YOU made it. And thank you, I am very proud! Super cute!! Since the style you like is called Kemono, I would of suggested to not fill in the head with foam to have more ventilation since I'm sure you can feel while wearing it its a little stuffy. 😊
@Kasperanzaa7 ай бұрын
Yeah, it does get really stuffy and hot, unfortunately. It's a major drawback. But oh well. Thankfully I didn't add plastic lenses to the eyes, or there would be zero ventilation! I should've hollowed out the base I guess. I just couldn't find any tutorials on the kemono style that I felt comfortable with, so I struggled to make it work with an American style structure. I assume kemono style doesn't start with a bucket head for the headbase, but I felt for my first try I needed a bucket head to make sure it wouldn't wobble on my head.
@XxPeriCo27xX7 ай бұрын
@@Kasperanzaa the bucket method is a common one to start, but no, kemonos domt usually use a bucket XD The common method is actually with 3d printers. They make a mask with strategically placed holes for ventilation. The method with foam however is called the dome method. Its rather easy if you have a template. Theres a free one here somewhere.

May I ask how much this costs to make? As I think it's really good and I've heard fursuit heads are quite expensive.
@Kasperanzaa9 ай бұрын
I spent around $500. But a lot of that is from the sewing machine (that I didn't really use), buying a lot of new tools that I needed, buying more materials than I needed, and buying the wrong materials. Making a fursuit head seems inexpensive until reality happens and you end buying things that you didn't think you were going to buy. Fursuit heads are expensive because of the skill, time, craftsmanship put into it. The real cost was the time, thinking, and effort I had to put into making it. The materials themselves, in comparison, are cheap.
