Brilliant video thank you 😊 I already wash my clothes with 'conker juice' as my daughter calls it, so good to add this to the cleaning cupboard!

Those leaves are in superior condition to trees local to me. Here (South London) they're blighted by the larvae of an invasive continental European moth species and look awful. The trees still produce fruit, incredibly, but older trees are definitely showing obvious signs of stress. Great video

I supose you're using what in Spain we call "castaño de Indias" whose nuts aren't good edible... Do you know if all chessnut trees can be used? In the region where I live there're lots of good edible trees planted by the romans in mountains. Even in public parks, near houses. And I've never hear about nobody making soap like that. It's really amazing.

I will try this with my daughter; she loves projects like this. Safer for the sea animals when it comes out of the sewers too.

What are those things that look like arrowheads that are hanging from the cupboard with your cups? I've started to wake laundry soap from English Ivy. This is cool as well.

Wish we had those here! We call a type of maple tree "Horse Chestnut." Not sure how or why it got that name but the "conkers" on them are kinda spikey like a Chestnut tree (not as big spines as regular Chestnut conkers)

Good video. If the horse chestnut is poisonous wouldn't the chemicals seap into your skin and build up toxins? also does it have antibacterial properties ?

@@SelfSufficientHub there are a few videos on here showing how to make the soap from that chopped and dried conkers. I left it too late to pick up any conkers this year , but I’m hoping I might find some leaves this week before they all drop. We are gradually reducing our toxic load by searching out safer and natural and sustainable alternatives. Great to find you, have subscribed.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can leaves be picked at any time or only when tree is in blossom? I was thinking about being efficient and getting the biggest pot in the house and stuffing it with leaves as it has to cook for 20 minutes. How long would this soap keep? Squezzing looks like hard work, how about putting leaves through juicer once they have been boiled for 20 minutes? Could you wash dishes with this? Thanks.
@SelfSufficientHub
@SelfSufficientHub 3 жыл бұрын
Ella Nola we certainly use it to wash dishes. I haven’t noticed a difference in the level of happenings in the leaves through the seasons so I can’t see why you couldn’t do it now. With regards to a juicer I don’t have any experience with that so I can’t really comment. As far as I can tell it keeps indefinitely Hope this is helpful

Hi Michelle, and thanks for your lovely comment. I have never tried but given it is a saponin based product I would expect it to store just fine.

Does anyone know how you could thicken this up to make it more like a typical hand soap? Can you just boil for much longer to boil lots of the water off?
@miyaiun4723
@miyaiun4723 10 ай бұрын
Hi. I just a video in which they added linseed to thicken it, but they said that linseed reduces a bit the shelf life. You add the linseed at the after you strain the water and keep stirring for a bit. If you have it around, you can make soap from saponaria officinalis. And even shampoo as it is really delicate and you can use it for dishes and clothes too. Search some info on it. All the best to you.
