Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Its said that he wasn't going to be just purple anymore, but all the colors of the rainbow. This song was the first single off the debut album. Check out the album cover, it looks like a castle but it's actually a guitar. Can't beat Blackmores legendary guitar riffs, and RJD's brilliant vocals. Quite the collaboration in songwriting as well. Nice one, guys. Next check out "Long Live Rock n' Roll, a great song off the bands 3rd album which was the last time Dio was a member. 🤘🤘A live suggestion would be "Kill The King", live in Munich. Thanks Ethan and Larry!❤🎸🔥

16th Century Greensleaves from the same album. As for this song: You guys did it right, studio version first., now you need to check out ANY live version of this song. This is admittedly ‘slow, clunky and chunky’ but it is the beginning, the genesis of the legendary pairing of Dio and Blackmore. Any live version will show that it was NEVER again played this slowly. The live versions show this song off as the fully realized over the top rock anthem that it is, making the studio version sound like a ‘demo’ or a practice ‘run through’, making the bare bones studio version all the more ‘charming’ in it’s heavy, plodding, chugging, bare bones simplicity. This song, by virtue of this Blackmore ‘riff’ is part of the ‘bedrock’ upon which ‘heavy metal’ or ‘hard rock’ was built. This ‘riff’ is part of the Holy Trinity of Blackmore guitar riffs. You’ve got ‘Smoke on the Water’, ‘Burn’, and “this song”. This song is so important in the Rainbow/Dio/Blackmore catalogue that it was played at every Dio era show, usually as a show closer, and “teased” or played in its entirety at most shows long after Dio had departed Rainbow. So you’re correct, slow, bare bones, clunky..., The Band realized it too. It was thoroughly “corrected” on stage as they turned it into a barn burner of an anthem. Other live suggestions...? My God man THE WHO... , PRE 9/78 (when Moon died). Each time you look at The Who live after Moon, I feel you’re doing yourselves a disservice. I know you did Pinball Wizard at Woodstock.., you picked a bad example..., I can help with your Who journey..., give me one chance;) Love the channel guys-thx and be well. From Sussex, NJ

YT wouldn't let me post a link to the HD HQ (Lyrics on Screen) version of this video, which I think is a bit better quality sound. I suggest you give that video a go and see if that helps resolve the problem, because I know the band and the track, and was expecting a lot more from it as well. I also recommend Since You've Been Gone, All Night Long, and I Surrender, as the best belter Rainbow tracks - I'm sure some fans might point you to the best live videos, I only know them from a Greatest Hits album point of view, and on vinyl as well - all the more reason the sound I expected from memory was so much better than this video. Great to see you guys, as always, and I'm looking forward to this (Easter) weekend's 10K celebrations. I'll be there!

Rainbow are great! Ritchie Blackmore is such a great guitarist and Dio on vocals - what more could you wish for? Gates Of Babylon is another great epic song and Temple Of The King is totally different in style but is a great song in it's own right and both are with Dio. If you want more mainstream rock songs - Blackmore changed style a bit as he wanted to be more commercially successful at the time - you can't go far wrong with I Surrender and Since You've Been gone. The vocalist is Graham Bonnet and he is a good solid rock singer in his own way.🤘 😀

Question for F/S for Q and A: Why do you suppose so many music reaction channels, including yours, are so enamored with the PROGRESSIVE ROCK genre over others? Specifically RUSH and STEELY DAN? I grew up in the Seventies and there were definitely more "genres" than PROG being played at the time. I'm just curious, given that the stated goals of a lot of these channels is to expose themselves to music they have not heard before. Yet they will continually bypass bands that were prominent in order to react to repeated songs by such bands as YES, PINK FLOYD, SUPERTRAMP, etc. Also, I have heard that some of these channels (not yours, as far as I can tell), will select songs from a streaming service, such as SPOTIFY. That is a big mistake if you are trying to get exposure to previous decades offerings.

The problem is that Ritchie Blackmore, Rainbow, Dio, Whitesnake and all the other iterations of Deep Purple that followed the exceptional MADE IN JAPAN double album, could not live up to or even match the phenomenal work that was MADE IN JAPAN. All of the artists' solo work and associates' bands will always be compared with the MADE IN JAPAN era. There is no comparison really.

Larry, I think what you are lacking in this album is some decent production. But back then not everyone had that such pristine studio productions. Not like the way they mix now a days. Maybe there is a newer digital remix you didn’t upload here

I think it's a good song. The vocals and the guitar are excellent. Unfortunately I think that the rest of the instruments are a bit sub par and hold the song back. IF those had been a bit more in your face this could've been a great song in my opinion. RJD and Ritchie Blackmore kept it from being average

Dio himself said that this was his favorite Rainbow album because it was more based on songwriting, whereas the "Rising" album that Stargazer was on he wasn't a fan of the second half as he thought it was just Ritchie Blackmore showboating

“This guy is no Bruce Dickinson”??? Ronnie Dio is so far ahead of anyone else in Rock it’s not even funny. When I hear something like this I wonder where were you when God was passing out ears?!? In your case it’s quite ease... you obviously got back in the line for seconds in the nose line!!!
