I am the eldest son of Major Maximo P Young (endearingly called by us, his children, as Daddy Max), who was featured in the MARCH OF THE VALIANT. At that time, when he was assigned to be part of the Filipino contingent in the KOREAN WAR, (the PHILIPPINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE TO KOREA, with the 10th BCT), he was a FIRST SERGEANT. He was decorated and conferred the highest military merit medal by the South Korean government with the TAEGEUK AWARD on July 27, 2016 for his heroic feat in the BATTLE OF MIUDONG (MURI), which was dubbed as the first battle won by Filipino soldiers in a foreign soil. Aside from the BATTLE OF MIUDONG, my Daddy Max also fought in the BATTLE OF YULDONG, where it was proudly announced that a battalion of about 1,000 soldiers vanquished a militia of 40,000 Chinese communists forces. Unfortunately, he passed away on January 29, 2022 at age 99. We are all proud of him as hero not only in the KOREAN War but also in the SECOND WORLD WAR where the US government then awarded him a SILVER STAR MEDAL for his heroic feats!

I salute your Dad for his bravery, courage and integrity of being a Filipino soldier who volunteered to fought for the Korean war. His heroism will always be remembered not only by the Koreans but also for the Filipino people and to the next generation. I am really glad that this documentary exists because it will show today to the world how Filipinos heroism were such a remarkable one. May his soul rest in peace in heaven in the hands of our Almighty God and in Jesus Christ. Amen.

It just came across my mind that funny how those UN allied retreated and left the Filipino soldiers fought the fights alone and won it and then they looked down upon filipinos today. It is heartbreaking indeed that despite the heroism of the filipino soldiers efforts to freed South Korea and yet Filipinos could not visit their country w/o applying for their visa when their previous enemies can go in and out visa free today. He never talked about that war, but glad he came back safe and alive. Seeing this video I realised how much hardship he went through, that’s what made me emotional. Later on in my teen years he worked for President Fidel Ramos in the Philippines Constabulary. I didn’t know that they fought in same war until I saw this video. Thank you so much for putting this documentary, it means so much to me and I’m sure to most Filipinos

My Lola's cousin survived the Bataan death march, then escaped and returned to his unit 3 days after arriving at the P.O.W. Camp. My Lolo delivered supplies to the allies during ww2. My great grandfather was a spitfire pilot from 1938-1946, serving in South East England (Dunkirk and battle of britain), and in Burma, was captured by the Japanese, and escaped. If I am not wrong, of all the nations sent, only the Phillipine troops were battle hardened ( after ww2, the Philippine army was still engaged in Communist insurgency up to the early and middle 50's ), though badly needed in the Philippines, it still sent troops to Korea. Pres Ramos was a West Point graduate, a Lieutenant then during the Korean War. It is also the culture of the Filipinos of not surrendering, they will use the last ammo and flee if need be to fight for another day.

In case it was confusing to hear that Lt. Gonzales was "married to the First Lady" that was because the one who filled the role of First Lady was not President Quirino's wife, but his daughter. President Quirino's wife and three of his children were killed by the Japanese during WW2. This shows how his act of sending his only remaining son and son-in-law to the Korean War was a heavy and very selfless decision.

Ever notice that when you watch old veterans being interviewed. The Filipinos always have a smile remembering their experience whilst Western soldiers seem to be doing the opposite. Not to diminish their experience of course. Just an observation. It's probably to do with the fact that Filipinos or Asians have to deal with a different level of hardship in their day to day lives or is it genetics where our cultures see wars as more glorious or personal endeavors.

Their act of heroism even in the foreign land was so priceless and incomparable. They were dedicating their lives in fighting for freedom. What a heroic acts .. Sacrifice a lot..risking life and everything. But then again.. Thanks & salute to all soldiers who fight in korean war. You're brave and heroism will be forever remembered in our hearts. A never ending salute to your dad and to all Filipino soldiers who fought for Liberty and Democracy for all even beyond the boundaries of our own land. We Filipinos are by nature brave and courageous could be the reason why Gen. Douglas McArthur said: "Give me 10,000 Filipino Soldiers and I will conquer the world". Not only to South Koreans but to every one of Freedom loving nations across the globe must never forget to remember and be forever grateful to those who gave up their precious lives, offered the ultimate sacrifices for the sake of Freedom you and I now enjoying. So proud to be Filipino.

One of the thing about Filipino soldiers in this video, they were thorough, descriptive but brief in the details. They also approach the narration as if they are briefing us the combat situation, analysis. It’s like we are there with them while the commander is telling the game plan.

Mad respect for all the soldiers that fought in the battle of Yultong especially for the 10th BCT. It must be tough to adjust & endure the sub-zero temperatures in SK when they don't even have a winter season in the Philippines! I'm in awe that President Elpidio Quirino sent his own son and son-in-law to fight the war when they didn't have to. I'm glad that they won the war and most of them came home safe and sound. One thing that's also striking and amazing is their good command of the english language even when it is just their 2nd or even their 3rd language outside of vernacular or mother- tongue. 😊

WWII and Korean War always reminds me of my 2 grandfathers, my paternal grandpa was a young USAFE officer who marched the Bataan death march. He told us stories about his experiences including when they conquered a canon nest in a hill. My maternal grandpa on the other hand was part of the Filipino contingent during the Korean War. He cries telling us stories of his experiences every time he gets drunk. We just laugh but seeing this video now, I can now imagine the difficulty they had faced.😢
