Welcome back to Marie's Kitchen! Today we're making Salmon Cakes (also called Salmon Croquettes or Salmon Patties) with an easy Lemon Dill Sauce for dipping. Yum! 🍋
Marie shows you her favorite HACK for reducing the breading in the salmon cakes and then walks you through how to make salmon cakes in the air fryer or oven, or in a pan on the stove top. No matter what equipment you have on hand, you can enjoy these easy and delicious Salmon Cakes anytime!

Wow, I’m glad I discovered you! I’m a 79 year old widower and I am always looking for different and easier methods to cook. I appreciate the three different ways of cooking salmon cakes, incidentally I don’t have enough fish in my diet, but I do like salmon. I just purchased a smoker and LOVE smoked salmon…salmon cakes sound wonderful. Thanks for your great videos and hard work.

Hi Jim! Welcome! My goal is always to make things as easy as possible 😊 Hopefully some more of my recipes will work for you! The salmon cakes can be frozen before cooking, so you could make a batch and then keep some ready in the freezer. (Freeze on a flat baking sheet or plate and then store in an air tight container.) My dad is a recent widower as well. My heart goes out to you. I know the change is difficult on many levels. Sending my very best, Marie

You do a great job. Instead of throwing that salmon and skin away, you can add that to your dog’s food as a topper. It helps the dog’s coat and it’s so good for them.

These were absolutely outstanding! I froze salmon cakes for about 4 hours. Took out of freezer about 15 minutes before frying method. Turned out to be the BEST Salmon cakes from someone who has lived in Alaska and has had a subsistence fishing license! Sauce is excellent! I added 2 minced garlic cloves to make to our preference. Served with steamed Jasmine rice and fresh green beans. Perfect meal!

Excellent! I am from Alaska so I use canned wild Alaskan sockeye salmon and 2 eggs, no mayo, panko bread crumbs and olive oil spray and set the air fryer to 400 degrees and cook a batch of 5 salmon patties for 8-10 minutes.

Marie, thankyou for this wonderful recipe. My mother used to make the nicest salmon cakes when I was growing up but it was always canned salmon as it was cheaper. The year before she passed away she wrote out the basic recipe she'd use & at the top she said "Dear Jenny, I think this is the best". I have kept the note in my recipe folder & I sometimes pull it out & read it & remember what a wonderful cook she was. I think she would have liked your recipe very much - she was fond of mayonnaise & mustard although I don't think anyone thought of putting them in salmon cakes during the 1960's. I am enjoying your recipes very much & appreciate all the time & effort you put into your presentation.

Yes I think you’re right about the 1960s - my dad has a story he always tells about Jimmy Carter enjoying salmon croquettes … the recipe used canned salmon and was much simpler, more like your mother’s. How lucky you are to have a recipe in her hand writing. Sending love ❤️ I lost my mom three years ago and, although the grief gets easier, I never stop missing her. Big hugs, Marie

Marie, thanks for your lovely reply. I understand your sadness at your mother's passing. I don't think we ever really get over the loss of our mother, but we can try to live life to our best ability knowing that would have been their wish for us. You must be a wonderful mum to your children, I thought they looked so happy in some of the clips I've seen on your channel. When my own children were young I never encouraged them in cooking as I was (ridiculously) worried about mess etc. I do regret that now, but am trying to make amends by always welcoming my grandchildren into the kitchen. My daughter came home recently while I was showing my grandson & granddaughter how to wash & prep salad, _ the lovely smile on her face when she saw us said it all. Best wishes to you & your family

Thanks for the recipe. I was trying to figure out how to incorporate more salmon into my diet without actually having to consume it in the conventional way. I remember salmon patties as a kid, which I just loved but forgot how to make them. It was the only way I would eat fish.

One hack is how often putting thinks in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes make all the difference in how well it help things from falling apart while cooking or baking.

Making these salmon cakes and remoulade today with Alaska King Salmon (shipped to me from my brother who is a charter captain up in Sitka, AK. I too think that our hands are our greatest tool in the kitchen! Also…..if you have dogs or cats please do not throw that salmon skin away! Use kitchen scissors to cut it up and put into a container. Mix a bit into their next few meals…they will love ❤️ this! Plus it’s great for their skin and fur!

Hi Janet! Wonderful idea! Be sure to thaw the salmon and then soak up any excess water (you can press paper towels on the salmon to absorb water) so you don’t have too much liquid in the patties. I just recently clock salmon in my air fryer for the first time. What a great discovery. You can hardly get the salad made in the table set before the salmon is done. In our house we called him salmon patties. Don’t know why just want my mother called them and my grandmother called them.

Hey Marie. How ya'll doin' ? First I watched pie recipes with great tips and found this one. Fresh salmon will be better then the canned I always used. Past tense. lol. I munch on the salmon skin when in the cans or pan fried salmon. Omega 3. Do cat's and dogs eat salmon skin? I get my vitamin C from an orange, peal and pith. When I commented that on a biologist/chemist chan. he came back and said the vitamin C is bio-available by our bodies only when the peal and pith are eaten with the orange. It's filling so I can't possibly eat it all in one sitting. lol. It's 26F. degrees today. East Coast USA. BTW. I'm in the over 70's year old generation. Nice to meet ya.

Thought your salmon cakes recipe waas fantastic. Best recipe...ever. I wasn't sure about the parmesan cheese I've never used it. In your recipe do you use fresh parmesan grated from cheese or the parmesan in the "green" can ??? They still came out great, but I would like to go by your recipe w / cheese to see if my husband can tell the difference. Thank you so much :-

Hi! Thanks so much for watching 🥰 I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed these! I use grated Parmesan from the refrigerated section - so a few steps up from the green can 🤣 There are several different brands and they’re all good. My family likes fresh grated for pasta, but I use the refrigerated pre-grated kind for lots of my recipes. Saves time and less to clean up! Hope that helps ❤️, Marie

Hello, Is your green saucepan induction compatible? by the way you have a super beautiful cat. For cooking salmon patties, for me I prefer baking, it's healthier but the other methods can be very good too, I'm not here to judge. I eat my salmon patties only with lemon juice so thank you for sharing I will take note of your recipe and try it! 💚🥗👍

They have to have the “Magneto” base, so you’d have to double check the pan you bc want yo purchase. Hope that helps! Isn’t Cookie (our cat) a beauty?! She’s so sweet too. Purrs like a machine! Nice, easy recipe. One thing...when you were forming the patties you said you didn't add salt and pepper but you did add salt and pepper. Can it be skipped altogether?

Hi there! Sorry for the delayed reply! Yes, the salt can be left out entirely. There is plenty of salt in the old bay seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
