Until we no longer drive cars (I volunteer you first), then we’re going to be in the global combat arena. We tried isolationism. It resulted in WW1, then WW2 (which was just a continuation really). That killed scores of millions, and we got involved anyway. There goes your hippy douche argument. In fact, the world is safer now (less people dying from war) than in recorded history of mankind. So yeah - we may continuously fight tiny brush wars in the middle of nowhere, with very small casualty rates in comparison to major wars. To me, it’s worth it to not have the world at major war. Your overly simplistic “let’s just stop fighting elsewhere” idea has been tried. A good portion of the world died. Quit thinking global issues have simple solutions. They don’t.

The fact that the US has established themselves as the dominant force almost everywhere in the world means that a withdrawal creates power vacuums. In an ideal case these only cause minor disputes that remain locally. But in an interconnected, globalized world, that is unlikely. Short term thinking brings longterm problems...

It came out to 140 pounds give or take a couple pounds. That’s everything weapons, ammo, equipment, supplies. I was there 1/5 bravo 1st platoon. Saw gunner 1200 rounds 5.56 the SAW, m9 and 30 rounds, two frags, two HE Mortar rounds, night/thermal optics, nvgs, two canteens camel back 8-12 bottles of water, 3 MRES, flak and Kevlar and odds and ends.
