I’ve really been enjoying these more thoughtful videos, Mark. Not just plowing through lines on a Trackman, but talking about the big picture.

I’ve introduced quite a few friends into golf and gotten them set up with clubs (beginner box set, 2nd hand to more advanced tech depending on budget) and when they’ve all asked about putters Ive always told them the putter is unique. It has to look, feel, and sit right to their eye and match their stroke as well. I’ve always taken putter reviews with a grain of salt because it’s a very personal choice. I will say my putting improved massively after going through a proper fitting and getting a face balanced putter that the fitter (and software) determined was a better match for my stroke as well as going down to a 33 inch shaft. Obviously you want to give yourself the best chance by controlling all the variables that you can (shaft length, grip, balance etc) but there is an element of luck in putting after all you have an imperfect object (dimpled golf ball) rolling over an imperfect surface (grains of grass on green). I’ve had good putts with good lines miss and not so good putts on not so good lines go in lol. This was a good video.

Thanks for the video Mark! I recently was fitted to the Ping 2021 Tyne 4 and I absolutely agree with you, the face on the putter is butter smooth. I feel like I can put the exact amount of energy I want into the golf ball just about every time.

I’ve used a wooden headed putter for 11 years. I love it. Had it built to the specs I wanted at the Pittsburgh Golf show in 2010.

When I went to buy a new putter the worker essentially gave me a free lesson while I was deciding. He was very helpful and helped me understand some of the same things you mentioned. Very nice to have that assistance when buying

Great vid. I love a proper putter test session. I was fitted a couple of years ago with a Ping Strong Arc, but over time my stroke has changed and I recently sam labbed to an odyssey face balanced. So definitely agree with your thoughts that things change. I had a session on the putting green with the pro looking on and my grip had moved slightly and become weaker which equalled misses and pace inconsistencies. So be mindful that its you and the putter in alignment.

I went from my old ping anser putter to a odyssey ten this year and it has improved my putting stats. Took a little getting used to but worth the effort.

Got a putter fitting towards the end of last year and ended up at the total opposite of where I was (ping anser) with the Scotty Cameron phantom x 12.5. Since then I have seen a drastic reduction in my three put percentage and am no longer afraid of putting which has saved a number of my rounds!! Great video as always Mark!!

Cleveland Frontline, great grip and feel of the putter face

This is a great "puttorial". Been rocking my EVNROLL mallet and I'm definitely loving it. I think down the road I'll definitely go in for a putter fitting, but when I'm off on the pace control I just chalk it up to me. Golf is such a personal sport... and it's one of the reasons why I really enjoy it!

Fantastic video Mark, really thought provoking. Have shared with friends I play with who are new to golf. I had a putter fitting a few years back and it made an instant noticeable improvement to my scores. I cannot recommend it enough.

Had a putter fitting having previously had an Odyssey with quite a bit of toe hang which I bought on a whim from ebay. The putter fitting put me into a Ping Tyne 3 due to the arc of my putting stroke. Found it a really useful experience and started to make a bit of a difference to my scoring last year.

I agree with what you are saying Mark. When I upgraded my putter I tried everything from $50-$650 AUD to find what was best for me. To many people by because it has a certain brand on it. I ended up with the Scotty Cameron Squareback because of the weight. It is heavier than the other and that helps me keep it online. Use what works for you not what works for someone else

Very happy with my Ping Zing Anser style, it was a choice between that and a Scotty Newport (Birthday present from wife), when testing both putters, holed more with the ping. Did her a favour on the price difference. You are so right about getting putter fitted, at the end of the day, it’s the most important club in the bag. Yes, with speed and modern tech you can bomb it 300+ yds but the objective is to get the ball in that little hole and baring chip ins or holes in one then we will be using a putter.

I was fit for an Edel putter a few years back. I have a couple other putters as well. Sometimes I switch them up just for a change. Those Cobra putters do look interesting.

I recently had an arm lock fitting at the Ping facility Gainsborough despite it being a fabulous day I didn’t get on with the Bryson DeChambeau method. It would take a lot of practice and time to master so back to my Scotty Cameron studio design 3.5 can’t beat feel and consistency.

I've just had my first putter fitting and as I suspected I'm better with Anser style of putter. So a new Scotty Newport 2 is going in the bag 😁 Great video as always Mark 👊

With the idea of length being what they are today, thank you Bryson. I actually @6'2" tall feel better with a 32" putter then a 35". I hole more putts being over the ball more. Odessey oworks 1, 32" length, added 40 grams of weights. Love it! Great video mark

I’ve never had any confidence using anything but a mallet style putter. Switching to a milled mallet style putter really helped me. Using a Scotty Cameron Flowback 5

I got a Odyssey Sabertooth years ago and love it! Heavier putter and such a sweet design.

I've gone back to my 48" White Ice like Adam Scott putter because it's hard for me to practice putting with a bad back. It gets the job done.

Excellent points that 99% of us never even think about. Amazing how both the physical grip (the edges or lack of edges and size) and the way you put your hands on the grip can affect start line. And then there's the rabbit hole of how biomechanics can play into all of this. The point is to test, test, and test. Do many options means lots of testing.

I was really hoping to see and hear more about the Axios putter. I am really intrigued by the technology. Would love to see you review this putter sometime in the future. Good video as usual. I practice using a modified procedure than what you were doing. I use a gate to swing my putter head through and then get the ball to go through the PuttOut gate several feet in front of me.

Have gone back to using my dad's old Ping Anser from the 80s because I can't find anything I like better... and I'm in my 40's!!

Would like to see an armlock video vs standard. When I tried an armlock my strike location was so much better. Would be curious if it helped the beginner/amateur golfer more than the experienced as well

Just tried that Ping yesterday. It was the best feeling off the face of any putter I've ever tried, and I instantly hit the ball really well. I just need to find a shop that has all the different head shapes so I can test them all. I'm still going to try out some other brands, but there's a good chance a Ping will be my next putter.

Had the Wilson 8802. Love the simple, uncomplicated look. Used one for years, and putted extremely well with it. Considering the lack of tech, don’t know how it got the results it did.

Discussion at 11:50-14:00 is 100% me. Swapped 20 year old RAM Zebra for newly fitted Ping Tyne 4 just like Mark was using and the roll out on mishits is transformational in terms of 3 putt avoidance. The other major improvement is head stability

Went shopping for a new Scotty, tried every putter that looked cool, after 1 hour reached a final between 2 Taylormade’s, 1 red and 1 black? After asking the pro what was the difference, he delicately explained it was the colour! So I now game the Taylormade Spider Tour Black (Dustin Johnson Spec) no lines but works for me, not been over 36 putts in 2 years.

Just tried the Ping Tyne C, it does feel great!

I watched this video because I was interested in what you had to say and not because I need a new putter (I have only gamed 1 putter, an Achusnet Bullseye 35B mallet). I agree with what you had to say about what feels good in your hands and what looks good at address, these qualities will help one relax and put a better stroke on the putt. There was one thing I thought you should have mentioned and that is ball position, when I first started I had a bad habit of having the ball in the middle of my stance and therefor I would hit the putt with a descending blow, putting backspin on the ball. One day an elder gentleman noted this and suggested I play the ball a little more forward in my stance and hit the putt with an ascending blow, getting the ball rolling faster and not skidding. Just my two cents ( 2 pence) worth. Well done video as always.

Wonderful... comforting stuff! Heartstrings pull for the old Wilson... but heartstrings don’t do much for my hdcp.

The grip can make a massive difference too. I just put a golf pride tour snsr mid size contour grip on a scotty newport 2.0. And 6 grams of lead tape weight to the head. I was about to ditch the putter for a more face balanced option but thought why not try that first. Last round I had 23 putts. 10 on front 9 and 13 on back 9. Huge difference in feel and distance control

Just finally got my holy grail putter in Scotty Cameron 5W And man it’s a massive change from my Newport 2 but I love it. First couple rounds I feel like I’m making more putts.

Changed from a traditional blade til the Toulon Atlanta mallet no fitting but love the outcome from that change.

Upgraded from my trusty odyssey tuttle to a ping anser 2 recently as I love the blade look, but have averaged 2-3 more putts per round. I might have to switch back soon 😭

Went from a blade to a heavier mallet putter and I find it’s much better on longer putts but I sometimes feel like I lack a little finesse on the short, slippery putts. I’m going to try to put some counter weight in the grip to see if that helps.

I have an Odyssey O works 2 ball. After a few months I wasn't sure I had made the right choice, then all of a sudden it started to feel right. Don't believe I will ever change now.

Hi Mark. Great video. I went for a putter fitting the other day and bought a new putter. As a very high handicapper, I chose a putter with a large head & high MOI, as it felt like the putter, of the few I tried, that gave me the most control of pace and direction. The “fitting” though consisted of no more than me standing at one end of a PuttOut matt and trying to putt into a PuttOut pressure putt training aid at the other end. Should I expect more than this from a putter fitting? I definitely bought what I felt was the best putter for me on the day but it didn’t feel like a very scientific process to get there.

working hard on technique at the moment with the spider, I feel as though straight back and straight through helps me personally.

Edel has a lot of stuff to say about how different people react to different line up lines on different parts of the putter. 1 line vs 3 vs a dot for example. Very interesting geek stuff.

Very informative video as always, gone from a Ram Zebra putter recently to an odyssey stroke lab #7 loving the feel of the face a pace control. Averaged 1.83 per hole the weekend with a three putt thrown in. Could probably do with a green reading lesson 😀

I switched from a Yes Callie putter to a PXG Gunboat last year. Started to sink far more putts. Went from 21hc to 14hc.

mallet. That's my putter of choice. Weight and eye. Not too opposing and the mallet putter has been my go to since my junior days. Feel is weighted and completes a single stroke.

Luck to go to Ping in Pheonix, Arizona and got fitted love my putter!

I just found an odyssey red dot mallet putter at my pga store on clearance. Discontinued club, I guess? Didn't even have a price tag. Hadn't planned on buying a putter, but I was sinking absolutely EVERYTHING with this putter! I had to nab it. It's automatic from 5 feet and closer.

I have a cheapo conventioanal old putter that works wonderful no brand. I had a ping small mallet and gave it back to friend. Love to have a classic Scotty Cameron with big square grips.

I've just swapped to the tour responce from the tp5 mainly due to the feel when putting. I still think the Tp5 is the best ball I've ever played....might have to have a re-think. Thanks for the comparison 👍
