Flyers: An American team, In the playoff hunt, playing a major outdoor game tomorrow, possibly/most likely trading the only guy who wore a letter up until Wednesday, with Couturier playing his 50th game this season Steve and Co.: The only possible reason they could have chosen now to name a captain is because of the Toronto media that Torts makes no secret of hating Guys I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it probably has more to do with Couturier proving he can stay healthy - the home game before they named him Captain was his 50th of the season - and Laughton (the only A) likely getting traded.

@@chrisg1556 Yes I'm sure the American team who's casual fanbase couldn't tell you what Canadian networks carry hockey games held off on announcing the captaincy in order to cater to the Toronto media who the coach openly dislikes dealing with. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Couturier hit a 50 game benchmark, proving he can stay healthy. Or the fact that the only guy who was wearing an A to this point (Laughton) is likely to be traded. Or Torts having his own reasons for waiting that only he and god could explain because it's TORTS we're talking about here. Nope, the only POSSIBLE explanation is that they're tripping over themselves to cater to a fanbase in a different country, who's media has no connection to the city they actually play for. Just like Torts MUST have been referring to Greig, a Sens player who did something to the Leafs, and not Cutter Gauthier, the Flyers best prospect who decided he wanted to be traded and promptly cut any and all contact with the organization. I didn't think anything could be bigger than the Leafs victim complex but the the fanbase's protagonist complex is giving it a run for it's money.

The main thing with the Rangers back in the original six era was that they were used as a farm team for the Red Wings. James Norris owned Detroits team and had enough stock control of MSG to be the de facto manager of the Rangers. Hence... they really sucked, because Norris loaded up one team and let the other get dummied on the regular. In the 70s they got a lot better but could never get over the top... "they did everything but win".

LOL @ 1:00 Jays toonie Tuesdays stories. Was 21 and lived downtown at that exact time and we went to the game every Tuesday possible. That little crappy LCBO was at union station, so as a working student it was $2 admission, $13 for a mickey of whiskey to split with a friend, and $8 for a coke. Beeline it for the washroom stall, dump half the coke and make a 50/50. To think you got smashed at a professional sports game for $23 even when the Jays were in the shits is actually insane. Sorry kids, you gotta pay for those renos my old ass now sits in!

Living in Fort Erie, & able to see the Sabres rink from the beach, I can remember being amazed that anyone would pay $6.00 for a Gold ticket next to the zamboni door to watch a hockey game. But because the Leafs suck so bad in Buffalo, I haven't even bothered to try getting tickets for decades.

That Torts quote was interesting. He didn’t say they didn’t have respect Jesse. He said that they want everything they feel they deserve and they want it right now instead of being patient. It’s not a pro athlete thing either. I’ve seen it in a lot of industries. It’s not everyone but there’s been a marked increase in new workers who want the quick buck and to be overnight famous or in charge. It’s good to be ambitious but people just entering the workforce need to understand that they not only aren’t going to get paid the same as people who’ve been doing the job for years…they frankly shouldn’t. Experience counts in all industries and they haven’t proven they can do the job for sustained periods.

I get the criticisms you guys have about Knies considering he's a rookie. But he has all the tools to be the ideal LW for Matthews. He's already one of the best physical forecheckers on the team, which is exactly what our top line needs. I think if we keep him there and let him learn it'll pay dividends. Unless we go out there and get a better LW tomorrow, the answer is not in the room. In the current lineup there is not a better LW for Matthews.

1:26:00 ... This is also true in the East. Detroit is only in a playoff spot, because the four team 'chasing' them all decided to crap the bed the last 10 games. All four teams are above .500 overall, but below .500 in their past ten games. If they were 5-4-1 the at least one of them would have knocked Detroit out of that final wildcard space.

As for why the Lightning are dropping their 3rd jerseys now, that's actually not their decision but a Adidas manufacturing thing. Recently they've been sticking to a staggered release schedule for thirds, they don't want to drop all of them at once so people are more likely to buy multiples. The Rangers dropped their thirds a few months ago, and then San Jose, so now it feels really late for Tampa but if they did it any sooner it would have been on top of those (not to mention stadium series and winter classics in there too). Last year Arizona had their 3rds drop around this time too and it was a big discussion then as well. Also they will be wearing them against the Leafs so you don't have to worry about the colors for at least that one game lmao

The nhlpa laywer thing reminds me of the Veterans Agency (Uk military) appeals process for compensation. I appealed their decision and got a date to go to a city, i get told I'll be appointed a solicitor when i get there. I didn't prepare properly, I had barely any evidence, and i was so nieve that this solicitor WORKS FOR THE VETERANS AGENCY! 😂 I turned up 90 mins before the appeal for a meeting with him, started telling him everything, and he kept going, "Oh, we'll nail them for that. Yep, that's going in. " Get in the appeal room, and he's an absolute pitbull! 😂 even i was a little scared! He ended up tripling my compensation award 🥳🤣 He took winning personally, not the fact he worked for the Veterans Agency.

I think you could easily trade Johnny Gaudreau, but it would have to be for conditional picks, not this year, maybe even not next year. If Gaudreau continues to struggle, then picks go from CBJ to the other team, if the more he bounces back, the more picks go to CBJ. If he's back to a 100-point player next year, they should get a 1st. If he breaks his personal best, a 1st and more.
