What a cute model, can't wait to see it on the shelf looking new again! - The only things that I can see that it needs are a new crew, a repaired drawbar, a couple of horses and a repaint. HOW WRONG WAS I !!?
See how things don't always work out and feel my embarrassment as I realise that I have bitten off more than I can chew and don't have the time or the means to fix it!! :(

About 1908,my two very young uncles, were playing with matches. Wanted by their mother they, shoved their implements into the dresser which also contained Christmas gifts. Now outside they soon heard the clang at the local fire house, and rushed to follow the horse drawn fire wagon back to their house and into their mothers clutches. Thanks for this memory. Marty, I have about 18 cars of yesteryear that were a Christmas present in 1961 or 62. Most of them need work and some are missing pieces. Thank you for posting your videos. You have inspired me to restore them.

Under high magnification, the paint finish on this model seems to be one of your best. Excellent job and video. I always like that background music. Never change it. I should edit in that I don't see this as a failure at all. It's one the best ever and the added parts will be the icing. Thank you for your hard work and interest in a very enjoyable hobby.

My apologies. I recently read your description of how you repair and paint one model at a time. I had a collection of vintage Matchboxes, some without boxes that i was going to send to you. The firetruck you are repairing i have this one but in excellent condition. Its really amazing how much patience you have bringing these little gems back to life. It looks lovely. But if I look with the eyes of my eight year old self, I'd be very disappointed that I couldn't take the horses off and put them in the stables. And then sound the alarm and put the horses beach on in a hurry again to goo and pour out the fire. Yes, I see it makes sense in the display cabinet to use the glue. But, over fifty years on, there still are traces of that eight year old in me.

Such a great looking casting. I wouldn't have been able to not paint details on the firemen horses and on that brass pump. Came out looking good Marty nice to see you back with such an interesting makeover.

When dealing with tiny decals I add a bit of extra decal to be soaked AND slice the decal film where Marty does (but through the paper backing). The extra paper, with the slice, allows a firm tweaser grip on the paper but allows the water slide to be smoothly slid off.

aww. but what can one do being unfamiliar with a model? as a kid I used to have the Side Hut Truck, and didn't find out until recently there ought to be a plastic hut going onto the bed. XD you're refreshingly honest about it. it's also a little lesson, too. some parts always seem to break off first. ^^ love the result, looks as new, with fresh horses and dedicated firemen. :)

Hi Marty, glad to see you working on one of these, and a great job it was too. You made me fished out my example: bought new and in very fine condition with black horses and all-black figures. The boiler is gold but the pump behind it is silver, and the driver has his feet touching the footboard, so it seems the dimensions of the replica figures are a little bit off.

You need to make a "Wheel Protector" that slides down over the wheel and protects it from the grinder. Probably out of thin metal sheet. (aluminum? tin?) Maybe get fancy and have it be two halves that slide together around the wheel for 100% protection, with a hole for the shaft, maybe even attach that to some Needle Nose Pliers.

You did nice Job restoring that Mason Fire Wagon! In the beginning it looked like the Headless Horseman had his own Fire Department but was missing the horses, And I hope you get that part you ordered so you can complete it and make an update video about it.
