I think it's wonderful that Canada invests in their young families. The time you spend focusing on your daughter will have so many benefits for all of you. I wish the US did the same.

When I had my kids we only got 4 months at 33 percent income from EI. I worked with many other women in the 80’s and 90’s to get the year for our children when they had their kids. 🙋🏼

More countries should have this privilege. We are blessed to have this option in Canada. Makes me happy to live in this country. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Yes Sarah take all the time you can, those moments are so very precious! When I had kids, years ago, in the USA a lot of company only allowed you 6 weeks for maternity leave! Luckily a few things are/have changing... When my daughter had her first child in 2017, she received 16 weeks pay, and a full year of bonding time with 76% of her pay! Her hubby got 8 weeks of paid leave, but opted to work from home for a full year after that! They both work for more progressive companies, so was able to find viable solutions for quality time off! Can't wait for your live stream, it should be fun! 💯😁💕

Wow, those are good maternity/paternity leave benefits. I wish I had something like this when I had my kids 20 & 16 years ago. Cute, little tire Sabrina, so glad we got to see her.

I enjoyed this because I resonated with it. I got 93% of my monthly earnings (salary and EI) for 8 months and EI only for the remaining 4 months. Went back to work Sept and the 18 months was introduced in October.

Thanks for this very informative video..Watching it from the US, I am highly impressed. Here citizens are only recently beginning to have better healthcare coverage. Since we are still grappling with women's reproductive rights , the very expensive health care, pharmacy and insurance industries; we have yet to value human life above profits. You should totally do a nursing video! I'm an expecting mother and nursing is one of my biggest question areas. I've been watching a few videos already. I know KZfaq sometimes removes videos for "nudity" but you can usually appeal if it's breast feeding.

OMG that's amazing! Here in Australia, your employer (not all) provide their own maternity leave policy and then you also, get government parental leave. So for example, my employer provides 10 weeks of maternity leave (some employers don't provide any at all or some provide you with longer time off). The pay you get is based on what you earn at work. You can also get this at half pay which will extend your leave to 20 weeks (not sure if all employers give you this option though). Once your maternity leave is up, you can then start receiving the government leave which is only 18 weeks but you do get $648 after tax (despite what your income is). You can't get this at half pay. Then if you wanted to, you can also use any annual/holiday leave you may have accumulated from work too. Your policy there is awesome though! I wish I could take more time off work!

I really hope that the maternity leave would be all you wished for ! It would be cool if you can take paternal and maternal at the same time, so you can go on vacation or rest together. Thanks for useful information, I would just recommend not say father, but other “parent” a little more inclusive of same sex parents :) however, I understand you probably said it this way because you want people to understand better based on your situation.

Ugh wish I lived in Canada during my pregnancies. Baby is too adorable!! 😍 We typically take 6 weeks here in the US. My job gives 4 months paid I believe at 40 to 60% of fulltime pay and that is most Ive ever heard. Smh

Hi Justin and Sarah. Thank you for all the information you provided regarding the Maternity/Paternity leave. I have couple of questions: My wife is going on extended parental leave. As a husband I want to take off few weeks/months as well. I have my 2 weeks paid vacation and I think by law I am entitled to 2 weeks paid parental leave that is a total of paid 4 paid weeks. Now, I am planning to add few weeks(maybe months) unpaid paternity leave to go outside CANADA with my family. 1-By law, can I ask my employer to have them all together at once (the total of paid and unpaid weeks)? And do I need to take them right after my baby is born or I can take them later? 2-the weeks/months that I 'll take would be deducted from My wife's paternity leave? 3-Do I need to fill up a separate paternity application? 4- Do we need to inform the E.I we are going outside Canada and Would my wife will get paid if she stayed the whole paternity leave period outside Canada? Thanks for your help in advance. Ray/ Ontario/ Canada

This is awesome. I live in the US and I get 6 weeks paid maternity leave through my employer (very rare!!) and can take an additional 6 weeks unpaid before they give my job up. I will be paid 70% of my wages upfront, and the remaining wages once I successfully return to work for 3 months following my leave....

I have been approved for parental benefits I think? its been five weeks since I applied and they paid for all of five weeks except the waiting period. Now I'm not sure if I'm only getting paid for five weeks or 35 weeks. It says on my "latest claim details" weeks of parental benefits paid: 5 weeks of parental benefits requested : 35 total weeks paid: 5 last report processed: Nov 17th, 2019-Nov 23, 2019. like am I only getting paid for 5 weeks or???
