@@ckobo84 The full race is on KZfaq. I don't know why he worded it as being blown past and could do nothing about it. The two chasers got excited about the overtake but lost steam while Sumner just ran his race.

Looking at that whole second leg, the guy from Alabama probably had a faster split than Boling.

Need to go back and really watch the entire 2nd leg. Bama is well ahead of Georgia to the exchange zone, but Bama has a terrible exchange, and Orogot takes off a bit behind Boling. The next thing to notice is Orogot runs the entire turn in lane 6, instead of his assigned lane of 5. Meaning he runs a good 1.5m more than he should have. Clean up these two aspects, and Bama is winning this, running away!

it's not impossible for him to be top 3 if he improves a bit this year and stay relaxed the whole way. He is far from the favorite to get top 3, but i think he should try atleast

He's quick too but he's not 100m or 200m Olympic level quick. USA has a ton of great quarter-milers but that was a good relay showing. In high school and even early college there was noise about his jumps but he must have dropped that. He has the following to go pro but can he compete against those elites?

People say that who have no idea what's involved in the decathlon. First he's way too small to be a threat in the Javelin/shot/discus. Second he's never pole vaulted and that takes YEARS to master (even at a 15' level). Third, his 100m, 400m, and LJ numbers would drop if he had to train for 10 events instead of 2 or 3. His LJ is fine (Daily Thompson was better 40 years ago), but how is his hurdles? Do you think people pick that up in a long weekend?

It's not really speculative, as we have HD video and good shots of the runners crossing the lines, it's more about a debate of when do you split the first/second leg.

1st two legs can be hand timed accurately if the timers could locate where the 800m starting mark is on the team's lane. Meaning the split time of first leg stops when the team's baton crosses the "800m starting" line on that lane. Then the 2nd leg split time starts right there....

Man, you got that right, the 400 is a gut race in every sense of the word.

At first time 12 yearolds could run 400. Was 75. I barffed after every race. Illi ois jaycees only had 50yd. 100yd dashes. Only the 12 13 had the 400. Went to state and ran 400. 45 minutes later the white kids from wheaton finished 5th. I ran 2nd leg and was the leg that cost us 2nd maybe 1rst place.

Is that not supposed to be a DQ though? Pretty sure you're supposed to be in your lane only at that stage. There must be a rule about that I'm not aware of because almost nobody has mentioned it at all, even in the official coverage. Regardless, it was pretty impressive, but I'd be pissed as a coach since he made their job a little harder. Double so if it was against the rules.

@@Zharghar08 I believe that would only be considered a DQ if he made contact with the other runner, or he ran less distance than he was supposed too. The officials don't DQ you for running more though. (also he didn't purposely switch lanes, he wasn't paying attention to the lane)

He would've been sub 45 or right at 45.0 as a freshman and within two years would've been 44.0 or better if he focused on the event.

Bloing himself ran a 44.74 in high school, so he really just has not improved much at all from age 18 to age 22.

A lot of people think Boling got all the press cause he's white, but it's because of that and the fact that he was truly the best high school athlete in probably the past 20 years. "In March, he leaped the farthest in the long jump for a high school athlete in ten years with a 26' 3.5" (8.01 m) mark at the Texas Relays,[7] and then bested the high school all-conditions 100 m record, breaking the 10-second barrier with a wind-assisted 9.98 seconds run on April 27, 2019. Boling finished his high school track career in May at the Texas state championships by running a 44.74 second anchor in the 4 × 400 m relay" Ridiculous for a high school kid to break 10 second barrier, jump 8 meters, and sub 45 a 400. Unheard of performance, and he got no better in college.

I don't think the degraded performance was "planned" necessarily, it just worked out that way, but maybe i'm wrong. I really do think his head wasn't all the way there all the way up until that 200m finals.

@@JRcalifornia I am impressed with the way you summed it up so succinctly! I just watched some European Indoor championship races in the 400 m which Warholm the great 400 m hurdler won (45.30) and the 4 X 400 m championship which Belgium won. Boling would have done well in the 400 m (against his teammate Elijah Godwin he ran it indoors in ) and his Georgia team would have won the relay.

@@JRcalifornia You summed it up perfectly, IMO. I would add that some seem to resent how good he is because they won't give him an ounce of recognition always saying he's not the world's best. At the NCAA level we shouldn't expect them to be as good as pros. Many of the pros developed since that age and are better than when they were younger. Fred Kerley seems to me to be an example of that. I know he was great in the NCAA's but is still much better now.

When he was in high school , he was all over the news as “white lightening”. He was embraced by his opponents of all “races”🤭. Not sure what happened behind the scenes. My high school kiddos ran at Texas relays. There was a swarm around Matt. He was so sweet to autograph as much as possible. He’s so humble and down to earth. I hope he doesn’t have ANY haters.

@@lindenbyass6902 the year Lance Armstrong was stripped of his win's for doping, modern testing methods were implored to all participants in the Tour De France the same year resulted having to go to 17th place to find clean pee I'd hoped for better in 23 but history would say many are likely dirty. The penalties are harsh for cheating

His PB is already 19.92, into a .6 headwind. If the race has a +.6, he would have been in the .8's. He looks to have improved since last year, so if he can not tense up as much, also if the wind is in his favour, then hopefully he will get into the .7's. To compete with the elites though, he has to go sub 19.70. That's a tough ask this year. Likely not going to happen. I hope I am wrong though, he deserves it.

Boling is okay in the 200m but for him qualifying for a world team with that stacked 200m field?? Give Matthew a break and let him run the 400. Erriyon Knighton’s PB from last year is HALF A SECOND faster than Matthew’s RIGHT NOW. And Knighton is STILL A TEENAGER!! Crikey.

The people Boling will have to beat to make the 200m team: Lyles, Knighton, Bednarek, Kerley, Norman, Laird. He has to beat at least two
