Max Scheler applies the method of phenomenology to #religion and #morality. He considers phenomenology a great method even though he accuses its founder, Edmund Husserl, of never really using it. In his masterpiece 'Formalism in Ethics and the Material Ethics of Values', which first appeared between 1913 and 1916, he extended the application of the phenomenological method to the field of moral activity. In contrast, 'The Eternal in Man', a collection of essays on religious phenomenology, dates from 1921.
Phenomenologically speaking, the metaphysical God and the religious God coincide, but 'intentionally', Scheler emphasises, they are sought in different ways.
