Will the SPAX SP-16 pass the test ? Mayor Fuglycool

My brother was in 101st Airborne, helicopter assault, and was issued one of these tools prior to each deployment for use as a crash ax in case he regained consciousness upside down with his UH-60 wrapped around a building, or as a general breaching tool for urban combat. This means he was issued a new one for his second deployment while still possessing his first, so he brought the one from his first deployment home and we did some testing. Just random stuff messing around in the yard, but we did figure out that spike will pretty easily go straight through a motorcycle helmet. Just sayin...

Thanks for the video. I have one of these, and wondered how it would hold up. Glad it performed well, that makes me more confident using it.

Awesome demo, I own a Spax tool and have always wanted to put it through a rigorous test. Thanks to your video, my spax will remain a virgin until needed. Keep testing.

Thanks for the USE review. There are a lot of folks on youtube that want to pontificate about this thing while unboxing it. You had exactly what I was looking for by showing it in use. BTW: I have extensively compared several hand held tools for clearing brush and saplings. By far the best I have found id the Fiskars Brush Axe. It's about the same size at the Spax.

The handle wiggle free after that?I'm still reluctant about those handles and materials as I debate between a kabar and OKC sp6.
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
The handle is 100% stuck on. No wiggle, just checked it right now to double check for ya. Thanks for watching friend ! :) Mayor Fuglycool

good test. keep up the good work. do you know how this would compare to Ontario Wyvern Crash axe and the Smith & Wesson Escape & Evasion Tomahawk.
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
+rsimeon77 Well the Ontario crash ax is longer for more leverage, but honestly I would pack the spax instead. If you are in a 75% wooded / 25% Urban setting, I would carry the Crash Ax. Mayor Fuglycool

+Mayor Fuglycool i agree the spax is made for urban warfare and survival i own on since live in city in case of emergency is part of my deployment bag

when you said don't hold the 'axe'(well call it an axe) a certain way but another way, it got me thinkin to myself an I said, thank god I put steel lining in all my work gloves an edc gloves! I'm asking your permission sir to send you a couple pairs of my homemade gloves I've touched razor sharp mirror polished edges pushing very hard an it did not go through the top outside layer of even leave a mark! safety first is right but having a dependable, (piece of tool) gives you even more confidence

i see a lot of videos where people have a hard time breaking car windows in an emergency situation. can this tool do that. can it cut a large hole into the windshield of a vehicle. great video keep up the good work
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
+sippio2030 Yes, this tool can break a windshield easily. Thank you for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
@kingcrashplays9 жыл бұрын
That so called spike at the end is not made for breaking rocks and stuff like that I could do that but its more of a hook to help you hang on to something if you want it to be used as a spike then it needs to be a lot straighter
@MayorFuglycools9 жыл бұрын
Austin DeckerI never broke a rock in my video, but masonry will fall to the spike. Mayor Fuglycool
@shellz1508 жыл бұрын
its ment to be used for breaking windows and most of all breaching a door.
@PureCountryof915 жыл бұрын
Slight curve to the spike allows it be removed from sheet metal easier.

The design of the axe blade looks dangerous the was it is curved towards your hand and does not cut wood well. Did Ontario give you this product for free or did you buy it with your own money?
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
+haywood jeblome I bought this. The SPAX is a great tool, and hard to beat for an urban hatchet. Mainly for city environment. Thank you for watching ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
@greenlawnfarm58278 жыл бұрын
Mayor Fuglycool I like your videos! I also like many of the Ontario products, but this one is odd, almost gimicky. I can see for firefighters....maybe. But they have better single purpose tools and plenty of space to have specialty tools of every kind. And for survival, even urban, I don't see the benefit of having almost a hatchet with a pick and specialty wrenches. Like what are you going to do opening a hydrant without a fire hose? And if you have the hose (and a fire truck) you probably have a few of the wrenches.
@MayorFuglycools8 жыл бұрын
***** The pick is nice for prying, and the hatchet does short work of thin skinned sheet metal. I am sure that there are better choices out there for the specific task :) Mayor Fuglycool
@greenlawnfarm58278 жыл бұрын
Mayor Fuglycool I can't think of anywhere ripping thru sheetmetal would be needed, in unban or rural environments. Even airplanes have doors. Maybe it would be nice to cut thru a metal door in a building. Maybe.
@markgreiner26448 жыл бұрын
+haywood jeblome Think of this as a breaching and disaster response tool. That was the intended design. it is more of a sharpened utility tool. Not really an axe. it is meant to open doors, break through walls and shut off water and gas. It was actually an issued tool to first responders in Katrina.
