I manage to fulfill a big dream. That was to get in a jumpseat of an MD-83 The video is not recorded as an "entertainment video" but more like technical documentation for further building of my simulator, therefore many minutes filmed with instruments and panels. A big thank you to the crew who made this trip possible.

Outstanding video that brings back fond memories for me as I was employed by McDonnell Douglas as a flight ramp mechanic I worked on every series of MD80s,MD90,MD11, 717Of all those aircraft listed that MD night he was my least favorite to have to work on as a mechanic

@@cutliss The MD90 is a completely different aircraft than the MD80 series first off the engines (V-2500s)were never intended to be installed on fuselage mounted so access to the fuel filter was a PITA also to open up the engine you needed a 5/16 socket to unlock the Thrust reverser’s then a hydraulic pump to open the thrust reverser cores and a 7/8 wrench basically a two-man operation with an MD 81 person could do it with just a screwdriver and a 3/8 12 point wobble socket The MD 90 also had a completely different electrical system and flight control avionics system if you look at the kneecap on the T tail you will notice a difference between that and the MD 80 series so when that first came out they were having issues with the software for the flight control system so it would sometimes give uncommanded Pitch up or down on the elevator it was driving the engineers crazy and us mechanics having to constantly change elevator actuators which is not fun working off the tee tail on an 80 foot boom lift in the weather and I can go on and on The MD 80 was a very simple and honest aircraft yes outdated but it was built sturdy and it was enjoyable to work on thank you for your reply I hope that answered your question

I don't know if that high-pitched noise if from the gyro bearings but if I heard that throughout the flight it would bug me.

The sound that the camera amplifies and makes very clear, I think is the fans on the instruments, they run at 400 HZ and rotate from 3000 rpm up to 20,000 rpm. A cockpit is a noisy place. You also have three phase instruments (3x400 HZ) that can make a 1200 Hz noise

Fed tur! Jeg har også selv været så heldig at få lov til sidde med ombord på en af SAS MD-80 i cockpittet. Den har en fed climbrate sådan en ;-) 4500 ft/m.

During take-off AND landing?! What?!?! I need to do that next summer!! Was the jumpseat comfortable for a little bit of the flight?

Hi. There is a limit space in the jumpseat, but this is not a problem. I was exstremly lucky to get into this seat. My homebuild MD-80 sim was my ticket to the cockpit.

Denne drøm har jeg også... Men nu har SAS snart ikke flere MD-80'ere tilbage. Hvordan spurgte du om det? :) - Fed film

Virkelig flot video. Hvad var din destination? Uden at vide det ligner det Malaga.

The destination Airport was Kos Ippokrates... Typical visual approach procedure for this airport... Lovely to see this in the MD-83 cockpit.

Why? This plane is fantastic! I made so many flights in the cockpit with my fellow collegues when I was DC-10 flight engineer, I learned to love this beauty!

It's a "Tuna Can" in the passenger area and affectionately know as the "Long Beach Sewer Pipe." And the APU or some other important shit is always malfunctioning.

That's mostly airline config. Not to mention, it's a quite reliable work-horse. Everyone forgets that 737s and A320s have emergency landings for *nearly the same reasons* and other things. "And the APU or some other important sh*t is always malfunctioning." - Trust me, that happens with all aircraft
