While I agree that was stupid, I suspect he had good reason to be upset. That car obviously was far along side that truck before that truck started changing lanes. And we only have the cammer's word the guy was even "passing". There were 2 lanes connecting at that spot. The car might have just been in the right side one. If that is the case then they did absolutely nothing wrong. In that case the truck driver just forced them off the road and they sped up to keep from having to go into the ditch.

@@twellgood9109 Which requires more speculation though: 1) That the car managed to change lanes and get almost all the way past the truck in less than 1 second. @solandri695 ай бұрын
I think what's going on is he missed his right turn, pulled over to the right side (didn't notice the parked white car), and was backing up so he could make his right turn. The other truck honked and made him realize something was amiss. So he pulled forward, made a left turn into the parking lot at the top of the screen, and back onto the road. Stopped and pushed the car back to its parking spot. At the very end of the clip, you can see him backing up his truck again - probably still trying to make his turn (now a left turn). It also looks like the owner of the car walks up to it at the very end of the clip, completely unaware anything has happened. I'm surprised the car's door was unlocked so the (bad) truck driver could open it to push the car back. And I assume it was in park, but pushing it backward sheared off the parking pawl.

Who remembers their driving test? In CA, test is quick and simple. I put some blame on DMV for not running better, more thorough tests on people to make sure they know driving rules and etiquette. I understand this will back up testing wait times, but so what? If it'll improve drivers on the road and save lives, it's worth it. I can only speak for CA DMV. With that said, I know there's still a ton of people that know the rules, but choose to break them too. Driving in CA sucks.
@MrPetej005 ай бұрын
The problem isn't the test. People know the rules of the road. They know how to be courteous and friendly, they choose not to because they have zero integrity. Its only when they see the police that they obey the rules.

Longer wait times at the DMV would mean less car sales, the politicians who own automaker stocks wont be too happy about that, and they are the ones making the laws...

But does that negate the other driver changing lanes without indicating AND hitting the brakes while straddling the lane marker? Regardless, cammer had command of the lane and the other driver should have waited.

@@jdoe836 Of course not. They're both responsible is all I meant, & it's *always* worth avoiding a preventable wreck rather than flooring it like this & getting in a wreck (God forbid if a kid in another car was killed).

It's 100% on the person who performed the improper lane change. He never signaled. He forced his way in.

@@aaronlewis8948 I see your point. I can see why anyone would ignore the cammer flooring it, too, or the lack of the rest of the footage & the audio edit. Only speaking from my experience & after seeing too many unrelated kids die from completely preventable wrecks like this to say it's worth discouraging & it's not likely entirely liable to the other driver in my experience in the 6 states I worked in (ironically *because* of the footage itself).

@@GreydawgYes the obvious is to avoid an accident but if those drivers continues to do what the other driver did without consequences, they’ll continue to do so. No signaling and cut too close in front of drivers. 10/90 sounds about right when it comes to insurance. Only way to stop these erratic drivers who think they own the road.

@@jdoe836 Oh, yeah, he definitely should get a ticket. HOWEVER, so should the cammer for reckless driving. Plus, because of the last clear chance doctrine the cammer should be primarily responsible for the accident. Btw, I suspect he was honking during that muted start of the video also which means he realized well in advance what the guy was planning to do. Thus making his speeding up even more obvious he was responsible for the crash. I'm not an expert but that is my read on it. But I agree, the other guy isn't an innocent little angel in all of this. He still violated the law and should get a ticket. However, just because someone breaks the law on the road doesn't give you the right to just speed up and plow into them.
@jamesclark71775 ай бұрын
The other driver asks "was it worth it?" that's a good question... Overall, when all said and done, was it worth it to the cammer to intentionally try and block the lane change, crash into the other car and then deal with the repair, insurance etc. The answer should be "no" unless they have no life at all. I would have honked and then moved on with my day, not crashed and spent hours waiting for a police report, then lost hours and hours going to repair shops etc. forget that.

@@brandon13774 This is a single quote from a single article, but feel free to confirm it everywhere you can (can't post links here): "In situation #2: Where the driver making a left-hand turn and the driver making a right-hand turn can turn into two separate lanes, then they are both free to do so, however, *the driver making a left-hand turn must exercise all due caution to make sure there is no immediate hazard otherwise they will be at fault in any traffic incident*."
@solandri695 ай бұрын
@@spamlessaccount This might be up for debate if cammer had turned right into the middle lane (the outer left turn lane's destination). But it's irrelevant here since the left turner moved to the far right lane (the only lane cammer could turn into). It's still a horrible intersection design though. People turning right or left on a green onto a road with more lanes than turning lanes, are used to being able to pick and choose which lane they'll turn into. It's legal in most places, and routinely flaunted in states where it's illegal. So deliberately pointing two flows of traffic at each other where this is likely to result in a collision, is crazy.

Not quite - trhat big of a truck wouldn't even notice a car sitting still. They have so much torque because they need it to move their weight. it's like pushing a bicycle with an SUV - not something even a little difficult. It could have been sliding the tires the whole way and that truck wouldn't have noticed, except maybe the noise (and trucks are loud, so maybe not just as easily). What I want to know is, why did the truck back up so far in the first place? What was the thinking? In the end he just drive away forward, so was that deliberate, and if so, WHY? 🤔

0:20 is the reason I was taught to never change lanes in the middle of the intersection. The reason we have traffic laws (and driver's education) is so that people can drive predictably. You have way fewer accidents if people know what's going and and don't have to guess whether someone is going to change lanes without warning or whatnot.
