i unironically like the forest map because there's a lot of good shit to capture. Plus Miranda is an Est in a game where you can just dump a bunch of scrolls on someone and give them insane growths. Give her the paragon manual, load her up with scrolls and have her kill all the ballista in 17B after they've been drained and she can actually do shit as early as chapter 18.

I think a bigger argument other than Ryoma is how the midgame of birthright is the least challenging stretch of chapters I’ve ever seen in an FE game past the start. The game does pick up again in difficulty at 23, and that’s definitely the point where you start really noticing if you aren’t abusing Ryoma. Revelation doesn’t feel this issue as much due to his later join time and the terrain heavy valla maps, so you’ll be more reliant on fliers if you want to have a decent time, which Ryoma can’t be without giving up Raijinto.

There is only two lategame route maps: Shura and Camilla maps. Shuras map is super easy, the Camilla map can be somewhat troublesome. All other maps are just bossskips (same for Awakening...). The Iago and Garon maps are somewhat nontrivial to skip though.

My analysis on the debate is odd: Shura provides +1 Mov on pair up on top of his other boosts and thief utility. The *real* question is if you want to get +1 mov on one of your other units, or have an extra utility unit who can be paired up with multiple people, but he takes up a deploy slot. Personally, I always choose the latter because I'm too soft, but the former makes some sense to me as well. Shura not getting the advantage of support that every unit who joins before him (except Gunter) has means he's less able to boost your team a little. But movement *is* the most important stat and having a *transferrable* movement boost sounds like something fun to mess around with, not to mention Fates is one of the few games where being a bow unit isn't a death sentence. My problem with Shura is him taking a deploy slot - my biggest pain in FE being the limited deployment of the series, and in as support-heavy of a game as Fates that's the deal-breaker for me. Is he good? Probably, I just can't find a way to slot him onto a team.

​@glitchwarrior7270 he is 100% better than a measly +1 move. He gives that boost already. If the boots gave 2 move, I would agree with people who say it is a choice at all.

@@leargamma4912 People really overestimate how good Shura’s pair up is. Like, half of the good classes in the game give move on pair up, and those can be on units who have supports, and therefore give extra bonuses on top of the movement. Plus he demands a deployment slot, and isn’t any better than any of the other bow units you can get assuming you invested in them. If you really want specifically an Adventurer pair up, you could use Niles or Nina or even Arthur with a friendship seal or something. Shura’s basically just an easy way to beat the ninja cave, and then you’ll probably bench him unless you have no other good bow units. I only ever pick him up when I feel like marrying him to Corrin and using him long-term, in spite of being optimal.

My theory is that without Olwen you have a noble territory for Illios because she is a noble and that is the reason why he joins you.

You get a pair of Boots in a chest in Ch23, so there’s no need to sacrifice Shura if you’re that much a stickler for movement. Besides, Shura solos all of the Ninjas in Ch17 with a double-forged Bronze Bow, a Defense Tonic and a Berserker pair-up (even a generic capture will do if you go that route). Shura’s clearly the better choice here.

FE6 likes to toss prepromotes with really high weapon ranks at you around the time you get a sacred weapon--see Niime joining a few chapters before Apocalypse, Ceclia joining right before Forblaze, or Juno and Dayan showing up right before the gaiden that yields Maltet or Mulagir.

Bartre as a unit might be better than Echidna, since he does have access to good hitrate bows, and killer axes. He deals massive damage, compared to the rather frail Echidna. I just happen to use and train Lot to bring him to the same level often, so I just choose to go Echidna, for the easier chapters.

@@Jadanbr Lex in Heroes is good. Lex in FE4 has trouble hitting anything that doesn't have a lance and relies on his brave weapon due to how heavy axes are in the game.

Using an Iron Bow to reliably chip things with Bartre is quite fun for me. All of his other weapons have >65 hit and the iron/killer bow have 80 hit

The Brave axe in FE6 has horrible hit and Echidna uses it better thanks to her higher skill. Along with that Bartre isn't murdering wyverns as he just misses the KO, along with having no speed so he is getting murdered by mages and most axes in FE6 are unreliable. The Armads is nice, but you aren't using it much if you wanna get the best ending and the most important difference. Echidna can use swords. Swords are the best weapon type in FE6

The skill gap isn't quite enough to compensate for the fact that one Bartre hit with a brave axe will be nearly as strong as both of Echidna's hits. His speed is rather low at base so him faring more poorly against mages and their ilk is fair, though his bulk is enough to avoid being murdered the instant one approaches him and if Bartre is being sent to handle a pack of mages by himself that's more a flaw in the tactician than the unit. I'm aware Armads won't be used regularly, which is why I said Bartre could use it as an emergency delete button in case RNG fucked the player over or something. Having access to swords is good, and Echidna is certainly more reliable when it comes to hitting enemies unless Bartre has Fir glued to him and is using iron bows or something, but her base sword rank isn't great and by the time she's recruited the player will have access to a handful of other better sword users at no major cost since a number of them are good likely to have been trained (Christmas cavs and Rutger are the main ones I can think of). Decent axe users are less common, so Echidna and Bartre are likely to end up with the better axes since competition is less stiff, and in the role of an axe user I believe Bartre's strength gives him the edge especially since Echidna will lose a bit of speed if given something like the killer axe. I am aware their roles are a bit different so it's not entirely fair to compare them (Bartre can handle fliers better while Echidna doesn't crumple when a couple of mages look in her general direction) and really how well they perform comes down to the person playing and what units they're intending to use and therefore what resources each has access to and whatnot, but generally speaking I believe Bartre is a bit better when it comes to handling regular enemies in FE6. Shame he can't do jack shit to bosses thanks to throne bonuses. Also if Bartre's effective 49 attack at base with a steel bow can't bring down a wyvern I don't know what the hell Echidna is gonna do to 'em.

Dayan is low key kinda good period, honestly. Silver/Killer/Brave is plenty for PP, he's only 1 rank away from Murgleis (if you havent actually been using Sue or Shin) which he can use to help double fast enemies without the Brave Bow, and can even use Killing Edges for 1-range combat in a pinch. Obviously he's no Milady/Percieval/Niime but he's right below them in a vacuum imo. Too bad he joins so late.

@@timotheebrasseur6188 game only checks if they got more exp, if you didn't use shanna/thea for combat (or one/both died), sue/shin could have, like 1 level and you still would go to sacae. Or maybe they died after 16x. Idk, just because you went to sacae doesn't guarantee you have combat ready sue/shin that late into the game. Most probably do, but not everyone will.

Dayan is pretty good for chapter 21 to shot down the wyvern riders is one of his best points

@@1stCallipostle Forged Riderbane go brrrrrrrrrrr I would say that happen in Fe3 book 1 but even then he is just like them for half of the game until they start doble attacking with Lance so they dont need to dismount while Jagen stay that way the whole game but Jagen have the +1 move for free and since the beggining so I would say Jagen is just as good as the christmas cavs in that case.

I think it's in case you're struggling. In the other version you have to not kill a bunch of promoted enemies to get Harken, which makes more sense for this.

@@oof5992 i did that in my latest HHM playthrough, i don't care about berserk or warp, it's my personal experiencie, i give the two light brands to Guy and Matthew, they were useful in Cog of destiny, however you can use the hammerne staff on whatever you want or care, it depends in your playstyle

There is nothing Deen can do that somebody else can't, it's a filled Niche. Sonya has a niche she's very good for: Making up for the fact that Boey is garbage and giving you an actually decent mage to use instead
