One day, someone noticed Ray over there with his head stuffed under the hood of a car, talking to himself. Constantly yammering away about everything he was doing….I mean *EVERYTHING.* So he says, “Hey Ray….you ought to do a KZfaq channel!” And so here we are, riding along on Ray’s shoulder, for better or worse. Only a true gear head can love this channel. And I do.

I don't know why Ray refers to his old place of employment as a "dealership"? That place was an independant repair shop. A dealership sells cars and trucks. Unless they did sales too, but I don't think they did. It sure looked like a Midas, or a Valvoline, or some kind of independant repair shop...certainly not a dealership.

I really love that Ray doesn't. There WAS a guy that worked in an Audi stealership that constantly bashed customers, their cars, EVERYTHING. He was nasty and obnoxious. AND he got fired when the dealership found his channel. I never want anyone to lose their job, but that guy was over the top, and deserved firing. I have 2 VAG cars. Once in a whileI need a dealership. I'm glad I never ran into that guy, because with his attitude, I'd end up in jail.

I started watching him while he was still working at the shop b4 the last one, but when the storm came & he said he decided to go out on his own, I knew he was going to be way better off, making his self more $ & being able to sleep at night bc he knew he did the best he could for the customer, & at big shops, they care more about billing by the book, and I know he didn't like the fact that they overcharged customers like they did, but when you do right by Ppl, you'd be surprised at how stuff falls into place! I would trust Ray to work on any of my cars & wouldn't question whatever he told me, but I would give him a few pointers on suburu, bc they are a dif type of engine, and the metal is softer than most & they are ticky and tricky to deal with but, once you get them figured out, they are rather simple to repair! But I know this went way off topic, but I agree with you on this, and he will continue to grow, bc he's damn good!

It CAN be done but it has to be done in order and you absolutely CANNOT go overboard. Especially on computer controlled engines. Without a proper tune you get detonation or "noise" that tells the computer. Which makes changes that exacerbates the problem.

At first, I thought it could have been something like no oil ( or at least not enough oil) in the engine. Some parts heating up too much and break. But then Ray checked, and there was plenty of it, although not in a very good condition. I'd say Ray is going to have his hands full with this one. It's sad that manufacturers now only think about themselves instead of the consumer. It's hard to get a car that lasts for twenty or thirty years without any problems, even if you act as soon as a problem starts developing.

Ray, for locating noises in an engine, nothing works better than a "listening stick". Basically, hold a broomstick against your ear (so it points forward) and touch the end to the engine (with engine running)... the sound will be conducted by the stick to your ear, and you can follow the sound to the source. Used to use it to find lifter ticks and tapping tappets back in the 70's

Just got back from a cruise. Between the rotatable drive units(Azipods) and bow thrusters they can just spin around in their own length.

You would think that someone who put all those aftermarket parts on car would pay more attention to oil changes. That oil looked like tar.

Just imagine how many oil changes he could of done with the money spent on aftermarket and lift kit parts. Do ya think he’ll learn from that mistake?

I've seen it be worse from some of the auto channels here where the inside is full of sludge and likely had not had the oil changed at anything less than 10,000 + miles, if ever. This one simply is thick with the glitter from either a bearing (likely, and it's from the crank being most likely).

No doubt about it. That engine oil draining into the funnel looks like metal flake paint. Somewhere down in the bowels of that 5.3, something is not there that's supposed to be there.

@@jakejonesy9275These engines in the 2000s where known to go 300,000+ miles trouble free if maintained. This engine looked to be maintained well for as clean as the valves are. It shouldn't have threw a bearing at 136,000 miles.

Yes it would be very informative to autopsy this engine and discuss the ramifications of over camming or aleast camming up an engine. Love to hear your thoughts on that subject. Great video. Have a great day.

My '07 Silverado went 234,000mies before any engine work was needed, and that was a stuck DoD lifter that I was able "release". I have disabled the DoD (the cheap way) and while it is no longer a daily driver (it wasn't when the lifter went bad), it still does general chore duty without a problem.
