That 800 meter split alone would win a state championship for High School State Meet, and these guys are going another 2 laps at that pace - basically.

What blows my mind the most about these races is that the guys who win the most elite races look as though they're not even out of breath. I'm a decent runner, but I'd be gasping and clearly suffering for at least a minute after doing something like this.
@ToddiThaKid6 жыл бұрын
mobus1603 I totally agree. I think it might be because of the fact that they are used to train in altitude. Makes it easier to compete near sea-level without being totally out of breath.

when you time the 100m or 200m where he really kicks in his 10k and 5k races its not suprising he has enough speed to do this. hes done 25 seconds for the last 200m before, even an 800m would be proud of that kind of finish
@rongovrongov12 жыл бұрын
there is a huge difference between maintaining speed for 200 seconds and 30 minutes. completely different. his remark was fine and yours was misleading. in the top level you see only what? lagat and el guerrouj winning the double in the 1500 and 5k and niether of them ran a 10k on the same week. you either focus on the longer ones or the shorter ones but not both.he ran a 3:32 run which suited his stamina and speed at the time and against the level he's running, it's a good place to be at - 2nd

They are idiots. Their logic is that middle distance should be easy for Bekele since he's a long distance runner. It doesn't work that way. With that logic I guess Zersenay Tadese would be able to compete with Rudisha in an 800 meter race smh.

At 54 to 55 seconds per lap, they're fucking flying. But I agree, a lot of videos make professional running look like a jog almost - that is, until you learn to "read" running form at different speeds. You have to take into account how high their feet come up, and how quick their cadences are, both of which are insane in middle distance races. The average person, hell even average runners, would feel like they are literally sprinting at top speed just to keep this up for 100m, let alone do it 15 times.

I'm guessing English is not your first language...I had a hard time understanding any of that. I have been running competitively for over 14 years and have followed all levels of running (high school, college and pro) for over a decade. This was a good race for Bekele, sure, but not good enough to cause surprise. Keep in mind he is considered by most to be one of the top 3 distance runners of all time.

The guy you just watched is four inches taller than you and could run a 50 sec 400 to finish off a 10,000 meter race. Height might be somewhat of a hinderance in running fast but if you’re relatively athletic and determined you can certainly push your limits.

fast time, if we take into account that Bekele is short (small stride) and that this is his first official race over 1500m (like a trial) and that the winning times in London 2012 is 3:34 and in Rio 2016 is 3:50

why would you not be surprised that a cross country/10K guy can run second in a world class meet at 1500m. They are completely different races with hugely different training requirements. I imagine he is surprised in the same way that he would be if Rudisha placed second in a 5000m. I am guessing you may not know too much about track and field.
