When I reversed my diabetes with a whole food plant based lifestyle and my A1C was 5.3, my doctor insisted it was the medicine that did it and refused to let me drop it. So I dropped her instead! 10 years later and I'm healthier than ever.

I am happy for you and your success. Its strange though, vegetables have way more sugar than meat and most vegetarians intake more carbs and calories than a person on a tradition, moderate diet. I banter with overweight vegetarian friends when they tell me how healthy they are how and how miserable I must feel for consuming meat. Be well.

@@spearonehard Yeah but the fiber in plants binds the carbs and releases them slowly, it is depleted, processed carbs that are a problem. Besides, high sugar is just a symptom of diabetes, treating symptoms and restricting carbs is the equivalent of not throwing gas on a fire... you keep it low but you need to treat the cause to put the "fire" out... intramyocellular lipids! nutritionfacts.org/2016/11/17/fat-is-the-cause-of-type-2-diabetes/ They've known about this since the 1940's, why are so many doctors still clueless???

Nerves problem, poor circulation in lower legs and feet, vitamin B12 these are the side effects I have experienced . Nerves problem affected mind and body coordination. Sometimes I wonder why our GPS are too shy to send us for a proper check up at regular intervals and reluctant to prescribe Vitamin B12 injections ?

In April 2021 I started a keto diet. I was 68, weighed 15 stone, my blood sugar was 9.6 and my cholesterol was high. I was on metformin. For 8 months I followed the diet. Two weeks into the diet I began experiencing bladder problems. For 18 months I had sometimes unbearable pain and could not leave the house. My GP gave me antibiotics that had no effect at all. Over that period I had ten lots of antibiotics that had no effect. I stayed on the diet for 8 months. I lost two stone in weight, my blood sugars came down to one point above normal and astonishingly my cholesterol came down to normal which, as the diet includes eating fatty meat, cooking in butter, not eating anything that is low fat or fat free, turned on its head all that I had been taught about healthy eating. Still the bladder symptoms continued until I decided to stop taking the metformin for two days. By the end of the second day all the bladder problems had disappeared and my GP agreed to take me off it. I have been off the diet for two years. I am still losing weight and my cholesterol has come down further.

Metformin causes lactic acidosis and deficiency in Vitamin B12 and causes the body to suffer. Metformin causes you to lose weight and look aged. Your friends will notice the change in look and physique and question whether you are diabetic. I am very grateful to a female pharmacist who whispered to me that if I exercised and stayed away from sugar, I can throw the 3 month supply of metformin that I was holding in my hand into the dustbin and I did exactly that on 10 July 2010. I have been a diabetic for 26 yrs now and exercise daily. I stay away from the sugars sucrose and fructose. You can live without fruits and vegetables. The only vegetable that I consume is the herb celery which gets rid of heavy metals in the body. The fructose in fruits affect your mitochondria and causes inflammation in the body. I am virile and healthy at age 76 yrs. A diabetic must consume soaked fenugreek seeds (one tablespoon for 24 hrs) to be virile and healthy. Please do not touch any diabetic medicine. Exercise and avoiding sugar, MSG. caffeine, A1 cows milk, vegetable and seed oils is the key. Gluten free A2 cows milk and goats milk can be consumed.

@@bo6824 This may be a long story. I had a Covid test on 1/1..was negative. Had a procedure done 1/4. I have several medical issues..so procedure was done at hospital. 5 days later I began to get sick (have COPD) so I thought it was the beginning of a flare and started to take my backup antibiotic and Prednisone. I got somewhat better but not 💯 percent. I continued to have a headache and low grade fever,so my pulmonary doctor said go to the ER and have a Covid test. I had that done along with several other lab tests and it revealed that my BNP was highly elevated along with a d-dimer test and very elevated lactic acid which would be fatal if not treated soon. I had no idea that these were in the critical range. My take on this... I had Covid and caught it while I was at the hosp. Having a procedure. I did stop my metformin which can cause an elevated lactic acid..but so can Covid and the anesthetic I had along with some of the ingredients in the prep.What I was feeling was different from a COPD flare up. The hospital said I had a flare up...but I disagree

I took Metformin for about 6 years. I became weak as far as my muscles are concerned. I realized this when my balance and my strength grew weaker. I am a motorcycle rider and my bike felt to heavy for me all of a sudden. I never dropped my bike but I layed it down 3 times. No damage done because I layed it down and refused to drop it. Now I hear that metformin caused this. My Suger count is fine . My question is will my strength ever come back? If it doesn't , I am about to sue the industry for what it has done to me. I stopped taking metformin 6 yrs ago and I'm still having strength problems. I really need to know if I will gain my strength back. This has caused me to stop many things I loved to do. I need some replys.
@jeanne2b2b22
@jeanne2b2b22 11 ай бұрын
Try looking into healing your mitochondria (power house of our cells). I see a metformin like training wheels in a bicycle, used for a short time to help the rider learn to balance themselves. Then taken off when the rider masters balance. Also try wholistic nutritionists, every body has diff ancestry that had its own cuisines. Like Eskimo ate only meats and fats with omega 3. Organ meats have all the vitamins + minerals their body survived on. There really is No standard healthy diet. Just when you can, get organic and non-gmo, in whatever your eat. Which eliminates all processed foods.

I always get exercise and always lifted light weights for my strength to handle my motorcycle for which I have been riding for many decades. I noticed my muscles not feeling a little pumped up after I lightly lift weights. My nurse had mentioned that I have what's called Muscle Enzyme. I said what? Then I found why using metformin. Geez, I had no idea. Well, that threw me for a loop. I will take your advice and hope for the best. Thank you sweetheart.

Metformin is still recommended a first choice drug as long as there are no contraindications or as indicated in this video in those scenarios where the drug should be stopped.Other choices to consider depending on your co-morbidities and medical history are: 1) GLP1 agonists: Trulicity( dulaglutide),Byetta( Exenatide),Victoza ( Liraglutide) 2) SGLT2 inhibitors like canagliflozin 3) DPP4 inhibitors like Sitagliptin or Linagliptin.Most important, are lifestyle changes and exercise.

In March 2024, I was diagnosed as diabetic 6.8. I was prescribed with Metformin 500mg. Is it alright to reduce taking 1 tablet a day or none? I was told to take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening.

Metformin is still recommended a first choice drug as long as there are no contraindications or as indicated in this video in those scenarios where the drug should be stopped. Other choices to consider depending on your co-morbidities and medical history are: 1) GLP1 agonists: Trulicity( dulaglutide),Byetta( Exenatide),Victoza ( Liraglutide) 2) SGLT2 inhibitors like canagliflozin 3) DPP4 inhibitors like Sitagliptin or Linagliptin. Most important, are lifestyle changes and exercise.

Sorry to hear that.Providers are pretty good especially when kidney disease progresses to discontinue medications which are renally excreted.I would assume this to have been done with your dad.

Thank you Dr. for your work I would like to know do we have to advice patients to take vitamin b12 as pharmacists? And what lifestyle modification they have to change Like drinking a lot of water can it help in case of lactic acidosis ?
@ThinkYourHealth
@ThinkYourHealth 3 жыл бұрын
Would advice to check B12 level periodically.Obviously, if it is low need to also consider other causes of B12 deficiency. Generally for diabetes be careful with when and how many carbohydrates are taken, limit salt intake, limit foods high in sugar, eat a variety of whole grain foods.Hydrating well is always advised, unless there are other comorbidities such as Congestive heart failure or SIADH where your Doctor can advise accordingly.
