Every space colony needs at least one pet Metroid (PETROID) to patrol for X parasites and other threats. We know that Metroids can form bonds with other creatures under the right circumstances, so let the Petroid do that with a trained colonist when it's young, then have the handler take care of it. If it gets hungry, give it an energy tank.

I feel like mother brain was like this weird AI that was just doing what she felt was logically better even if it meant betraying the Chozodians. All of her actions seem more like a computer over interpreting different data

From there, she goes to Zebes in hot pursuit of Ridley, without communicating with anyone about the fate of Ceres station or the situation with Ridley and the Metroid...

Honestly this makes sense. And when you think about it, I feel everything in the Metroid Series is pre-determined or at least the Chozo knew about the foreseeable future. I mean, calling the Metroids, well, Metroids (aka Ultimate Warrior IIRC?) And then the fact they leave upgrades and whatever Samus needs on each place she visits or something, and the fact that everything played out the way it did. Like I mean C'MON. The thing with Samus sparing the infant Metroid is just... whoa. That just can't be coincidence. I'm not sure if I'm making sense but maybe someone can explain it better than me or at least understands what I'm trying to say here.

Remember Mother Brain was "corrupted" and became the leader of the Space pirates, also remember that mother brain wanted to control the galaxy

The metroid X-parasite situation kinda reminds me of something: there is a problem with a creature, so you send another creature to kill that one, but now you have a problem with the creature you sent to deal with the problem

Logically, Mother Brain will always see herself as the good guy, since her sentience overtook the Chozo so she could pursue her own directive of self preservation. So “saving” the galaxy would always be in her best interest, even if it’s twisted. I also theorize that the baby was actually a baby Queen, so that’s why the queen on SR388 was right before we found it, and why it mutated so violently.

I disagree that the Space Pirates aren't competent. On their own, they resurrected Mother Brain, Ridley, and Kraid. Through trial and error they harnessed Phazon into weapons and even super soldiers. The logs in the Prime series makes the pirates seem way smarter than you're giving them credit.

I agree with most points, the only thing I'd mention is Mother Brain *did* turn on the Chozo when Zebes was attacked by the Space Pirates, making me think that she is partly evil.

Maybe she was tying to prove a point about the Federation. Like maybe she was trying to prove how incompetent and naive the Galactic Federation is about protecting the Galaxy from Space Pirates and trying to contain the X Parasite, coupled by the fact that there is something sort of Corruption lingering about in High Command.

This theory changed so much in my eyes :O

5:32 What?! The Galactic Federation didn't send Samus to Zebes in Super Metroid. Samus received a destress signal from Ceres Station, encountered Ridley stealing The Baby, and chased Ridley to Zebes to rescue The Baby from the Space Pirates. The Galactic Federation had no involvement with any of that. Samus was still on her way back to the Federation to report on her mission success on SR388. Samus "mission" back to Zebes in Super Metroid was personal and nothing more than a detour, not an official mission she was getting paid for.

Love the theory. I like the idea of the antagonist and the protagonist both trying to do what they deem to be necessary.

Something I've noticed about Metroids, they seem to be freezing for less time depending on what game their in. In Metroid(NES) they froze for a few seconds, similar with Return of Samus. Their freeze time shortens a bit in Super Metroid. They freeze shorter in Zero Mission, but that can be said as just a game remake changing a small thing. However in Samus Returns, the remake of the second game, they freeze for a very short period of time. Like a split second. Are Metroids gaining some kind of natural cold resistance? If they are, that'd be terrifying. They lose their one weakness. I'm aware that some already have, but in Samus Returns they aren't damaged by missiles unless frozen.

Maybe Mother Brain should have sent a communique directly to Samus to say "Hey, you are a freaking idiot, killing metroids is a bad idea, and if you STOP SHOOTING ME WITH MISSILES then I will explain why."

There's a couple issues here First off: super metroid takes place immediately after metroid 2, as samus was leaving ceres station she gets a distress signal and turns around so there's very little time for word to get around that all but one of the metroids are gone Second: the federation didn't send samus to zebes, she just chased after ridley, it was more of a personal mission than an official one

Long so the TL;DR is that the Metroids were around long before the Chozo discovered the X on SR388. As in they are naturally occurring somewhere and evolved over the last few billion years before the Chozo modified and cloned a batch to be used to destroy the X. The slightly longer TL;DR: Intentional, or derp by the Devs, Metroid prime takes place between Metroid 1 and 2. The Phazon Mines were sealed for hundreds if not thousands of years by the Chozo, and the Space Pirates couldn't get in to them. There were Metroids in the crater, including a phazon corrupted Queen, which would account for the others. Therefore Metroids must have an origin separate from the Chozo. Interesting. However, first the Metroids were only on SR388 for a few years, and killed 80% of the planets fauna. Also, Metroid Prime takes place between Metroid 1 and Metroid 2. Now what does this have to do with anything? Well in the phazon caves on Talon IV that the Chozo have had sealed hundreds, if not thousands of years before the few years that the Metroids were on SR388, there were metroids. Including the horrifically mutated Metroid Prime, which likely was a queen that came with the phazon meteor. Moreover, it is also not likely Metroids were native to Talon IV, seeing as how only the ones the Space Pirates brought and the ones sealed in the phazon caves were on the planet. So I offer that the Metroids are a naturally occurring species somewhere in the galaxy, probably either space faring, potentially nesting in asteroids and comets, and that the Chozo, and Mother Brain simply tweaked them to be the perfect predator to the X. Likely making them more aggressive, perhaps making them immune to X infection if they already weren't. I suspect they already were immune, as the Chozo could have just created a vaccine rendering all sentients immune. Right? Please tell me they ruled that out as an option. Wait. A vaccine was developed thanks to Samus getting infected, using Metroid DNA. Well shit. We can turn these little electron vacuums into a dangerous bioweapon, or we can just use their DNA to make everyone immune, and in fact be able to use the X as a food source rendering them not only harmless, but extremely beneficial.NOPE! Lets go with mass genocide instead! Because reasons! I would also posit that the Metroids weren't naturally susceptible to the cold, and that the Chozo and or Mother Brain modified them to be so as a failsafe against them being infected by the X and leaving the planet under their own power. I would hypothesize that Metroids may be space faring, seeing as how one got on the phazon meteor and all. Being vulnerable to cold would mean they freeze and fall back to SR388 before they can escape the planet's gravity well. Or if the Metroids make X extinct, then they have a convenient way to dispatch them, also makes handling them easier if they are frozen and so on, or if they get out of control, someone decides to use them to try to take over the world I mean universe! And so on and so forth.

Something to add to this, though it is just speculation: The reason why Mother Brain could have ended up betraying the Chozo could either be one of two things, if not both: 1) Due to the fact that the Chozo have self inflicted a mental block on themselves against aggressive tendencias, Mother Brain could have left them since it would fear that they wouldn't be able to "pull the trigger" (this is before we find out what happens when you get 100% item completion in Samus Returns) against the X Parasites and directly confront them, choosing the more unintelligent and disposable Space Pirates instead, since it would just mind control them into doing its bidding. 2) It feared the Chozo civilization falling prey to the X, because if the X gained access to the vast intellect of the Chozo, it would definitely spell doom for the galaxy. Ultimately, had MB survived past the events of Fusion, I suspect that it would integrate Frost resistant Metroid DNA (courtesy of Other M) into its gene pool, as that would certainly make her more of a threat to the X than without it, since MB-X would be just as calamitous as Chozo-Xs, if not more. Being able to telekinetically control the only threat against you? Uff...

The supersized metroid might have been an attempt at turning the infant metroid into a metroid queen. We the players have never seen what a metroid queen sprouts from. A metroid queen is larger than even an omega metroid, so it's possible that the process that enlarged the infant metroid was to prepare it for becoming a queen. We do see a supersized metroid in Fusion though. The omega at the end came out of a metroid husk that's way larger than a typical husk, and the omega was so large it couldn't fly (just like the queen). Although Samus Returns retconned the supersized omega metroid into a typical omega metroid, same with AM2R. The omegas are now very large and don't fly anymore. It's possible that the omega in fusion was the federation either trying to make a queen or bumbling their way to making a queen by accident until Samus ended its life before it could undergo its final metamorphosis.

This is a very interesting point of view on the subject. Specially considering how shady the galactic federation actually was. Also, since super metroid is chronologically after the prime series, why didn't they send a search team to Talon IV to see if there aren't any metroids there? Since dark Samus is the metroid prime and very little is known about her escape from Talon IV, probably they could find some interesting things, including metroid DNA around there

I like this idea, But I have a few of my own. First, Samus went on the operation to retrieve the baby metroid on her own, as she never states the federation told her to. She assumed mother brain was using it for evil, and hell i'd even see the federation striking a deal with mother brain to take some metroids, and since samus eradicated them in metroid II, they wouldnt go back to SR388 to discover she let them out there. Of course they go back to sr388 to get research specimens for the B.S.L. Station in Fusion so ultimately they would have fallen into the wrong hands again. thats the only idea lmfao. His possible the metroid location and creation was not in Mother Brain data banks. I'm 100 % sure in the Manga Grey Voice use Chozo power suit that Mother Brain couldn't recognized so Chozo could hide Info of the location of the metroids and creation of them .

Can you imagine if the next game is samus attempting to revive the Metroids to get rid of the X parasites and to insure the space pirates stay away she takes to fight to them directly

Small correction: 5:38 You say the Galactic Federation sent Samus to Zebes in Super Metroid, but this isn't the case. Samus merely follows Ridley to Zebes and stumbles upon the entire operation. Ceres research station sends a distress call and Samus, being the closest to the station as she had just left it, immediately returns, discovers Ridley attacked the station and flees with the Metroid. Given her relationship with the creature, I'd guess she just jumped back into her ship and went to Zebes without even informing the Galactic Federation. A few hours after arriving, the Super Metroid storyline ends and Zebes is destroyed. My guess is that the debriefing for the operation (because they likely knew Samus had answered the distress call on Ceres Station) was when they were informed that the Mother Brain had been rebuilt by the Space Pirates and that they had set up several bases throughout the planet.

So long story short, the Galactic federation are the unaware bad guys of the Metroid series.

From what I read in the manga what happened was she was programmed with the Chozo's goal of Galactic peace, and that's important to say the Chozo's GOAL not their methods and how they acted. She was part organic and somewhat self aware, what happened was she knowing only to achieve of peace and made out that true peace is only attainable by overtly controlling the masses, and with the Metroid she could care less about it's role as the galaxy's savior from the X and instead saw it as a weapon to topple the old federation and instill her own government. The X would be an afterthought really, but I doubt she'd let the X thrive and would promptly exterminate them. I do believe that the space pirates were just a means to an end, and logically she would kill them off after her conquering of the galaxy.

Metroid Prime/Dark Samus unintentionally saved Aether

Assuming this to be true, then what I'm a bit surprised by is that Mother Brain never tried talking to SAMUS. It worked with the Chozo, so it would know what kind of tech they made and at least some of the basics of how it worked. It should have been able to recognize the Power Suit as being of Chozo design and realized Samus had ties to them. Since it worked with the Space Pirates, it should have knowledge of Samus's efforts during the Phazon crisis and know that she's willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to stop universe-level threats. Those two facts combined should have made Mother Brain be at the very least be more willing to trust her than the GF, even if she was working on commission for them. And knowing Samus, she would have listened. She would have let Mother Brain clone more Metroids, then she would have destroyed the disembodied brain so as to be able to give an all-clear to the Galactic Federation without raising suspicion about why the base on SR-388 was still active. Being a being of pure intellect, Mother Brain would likely have acquiesced to this in return for the short active cloning period. Without the Baby being killed right above her, Samus would have no Metroid DNA on her armor, and the GF would have no cause to come back to SR-388. The Metroids could propagate on their own (Hopefully the Baby had the necessary genes, or Mother Brain had the knowledge of how to insert those genes into some of the clones), and contain the X parasite. And finally, Samus could use her connections to wipe SR-388's star system from all digital star charts. By the time someone accidentally stumbled across the system, hopefully the Metroids would have finished their work, or the star would have gone supernova; glassing or destroying SR-388, or ejecting it into interstellar space. Ideally that scenario wouldn't happen, though.

I have one question... In Super Metroid, there is a room just before Kraids lair that has a space suit lying on the floor, and it looks to have been there awhile... Any idea who it was? Maybe a failed bounty Hunter? It is something that has made me wonder since first playing it in the mid 90's...

my question. Did the federation give themselves X vaccines? In Metroid fusion, it said they were on the way to the BSL because they wanted to capture the SA-X. Samus said they would be overwhelmed. Or, like how did the federation plan on capturing X if the X can enter suits, even samus Suit was penetrated by X.

A problem: in metroid 1, Mother brain, cloneds or stole metroids to use them as weapons and since metroid 1 takes place waaay before metroid, M.B plan makes no sense considering the metroids were running rampart on sr388 by that time means that MB was not trying to sabe anything

Your argument is actually rather compelling, especially with Metroid: Samus Returns new cutscene showing the X Parasite taking over SR388. There’s just one hole that bothers me. MB from Other M is an AI intended to replicate Mother Brain’s thought process in order to control the Metroid clones, essentially, she is a clone of Mother Brain, and yet, she also went berserk as she became self-aware. Assuming that her and Mother Brain are essentially the same, Mother Brain probably also went berserk, thus becoming the antagonist we know.

One thing i find weird about metroid fusion is that metroids dont gain powers from the x virus, but x virus can absorb other x's to increase their power, so could it be that samus is still a x and the metroid vacine is more of a temporal solution to the side effects? Very interesting theory. The only hole in this theory would be the fact that Mother Brain and the Space Pirates actually wiped out the entire Chozo race. So If Mother Brain did this on purpose, then she either didn't care about how to replicate Metroids, or she already knew. Either way, wiping out the entire Chozo race doesn't exactly look too good for you if you are trying to be one of the "good guys" lol However, there could also be a theory that goes even deeper that could possibly reveal the Chozo to be malicious beings. Mother Brain was trying to preserve life in the galaxy, but of course nations on earth became threatened by its potential so sending its greatest warrior to try to destroy it. No wonder we must fight until all of the forces of destruction have been destroyed

If mother brain didn’t try to weaponize the metroids in the first game, Samus would never exterminate them in the first place.

In super metroid, the timeframe between Ridley getting his hands on the last metroid, and samus wiping out all the metroids in tourain is ~minutes~. Not even a full hour passes. That is certainly not long enough to clone metroids to the extent that was present throughout tourain. I believe the metroids and mocktroids seen in Super Metroid are a result of Mother Brain attempting to recreate what the Chozo did on SR388. Stealing the infant metroid is just an attempt at preventing the federation from having metroids and weaponizing them.

I think mother brain acted in command of the federation, after all it seems likely, that mother brain is one of the aurora units presented in prime 3. I mean with all the unoficial shit the federation pulled off it would be no wonder to be a secret by the federations military superiors. after all they have shown us in other m how to controll the zebezian species and they recreatet mother brain in a more mobile version to fulfill it's destiny: create more metroids
