My stepfather bought a Bowtech way back in 2005 and absolutely loved it. I've been wanting one since i picked hunting back up 2 years ago. Sadly my local bow shop did not have a SS34 available when i went to purchase my new bow. I will get a bowtech in a couple years though. They are just awesome.

This was another awesome podcast guys. The tip about the DIY draw board design is very helpful. I'm gonna be making one here soon and will definitely be putting the stagger in it. I pick up little gems like this from every podcast. Thanks again for all the great info. And the Ipad fire is pretty frickin' cool.

Bowtech's tech is awesome with being able to move the cams the way the do. Elite's set system is ok but you still need to reset your center shot after moving the limbs one way or the other.

I think one of the videos Josh did on setting up a Hoyt VTM 34 really highlighted how awesome Bowtech's deadlock system is and he wasn't even doing a video on Bowtech. He was putting in the Hoyt shims to bring the cams in line and he pointed out that you could have a scenario where putting in the shims could get you close but you might end up slightly on the other end of perfect. I believe Mathews shims are pretty much the same in that regard so with that type of system you'd be forced to move the rest to fine tune the rest of the way. With Bowtech's deadlock system you basically have microtone precision with the cams.

I built my drawboard/shooting machine back in 2013 with the grip holder 2.25" lower than the Berger holes, which is the approximate location of the D-loop. My bow grip holder is also a re-bent 3/8" hook bolt squared up using a propane torch and shaped using an adjustable wrench to bend the heated bends. Then, I wrapped it with marine-grade shrink tubing, so it doesn't mar the bow grip. I pointed out the fault with the LCA drawboard attachment to everyone that's using it, and they were all like, "Holy shit, you're right! I never realized that." I'm like Josh - I like to teach people what I've taken the time to learn and discover, so they can work on their own bows, except string-making No one wants to attempt doing them...yet. Every string I make imparts a natural right spin to arrows, and that goes a long way to make paper tuning more accurate.

This was an excellent discussion! Bowtech, Black Gold, and Tight Spot being under the same umbrella and having no integration is an absolute travesty. I work with Prime but as lover of the game I wish that company would get it together.

Rant agreement... I have been with Bowtech as a dealer for 21 years. I have shot their bows personally because of what you have spelled out for 21 years. If people understood the tech and the company puts the newer tuning systems into their hunting bows, wheeew! Nobody else has their tech...or compares.

Sorry, PSE hands down. Reason: yoke tuning, cam shims and adjustable cable guard. Everything you need to super tune with keeping your rest centered. Even with broadheads. Might take longer but its so dam accurate

Good idea. I typically buy everything from the retailer and then build myself. Aftermarket strings etc. Have a Realm SR6 that had a cam issue with cutting into the string. Note that you are supposed to only use their strings due to warranty. I brought it to the retailer, they sent it in with no issues, and was fixed under warranty, even with knowing I swapped the strings…they even sent me an extra set. So I’d be curious to see what the other manufacturers would do or the recommendations for people like me who do the work ourselves.

I worked for a company that was bought buy a capitol investment group. The high level guys showed up on the floor asking employees what they could do to improve things. My question to them was what the pump and dump timeframe was. The holding group made things happen quickly to increase the price before the dump (4years), and when quarter expectations were exceeded, all employees got bonuses. Those bonuses to the employees were essentially a write off, as they could be figured into profitability,

Couldn’t agree more with you guys. I recently purchased a cp 30 solely for the dead lock cam system, but after living with the bow for a few weeks the combination of low reflex riser, generous brace height and grip make it the most stable easy to shoot short bow I’ve ever owned. Yet at my local tournaments there’s at least 15-20 Matthews for every bow tech. I almost feel like I need to spread the word about how good the bow is for them.

I think I speak for everyone, when I say we need a complete product line of bow setup equipment from MFJJ. We need a pivoting/rotating press, correctly designed draw board, bow vise, tools, etc. all designed by MFJJ that allow us to set up everything correctly in our own home. I know he is slowly working towards some of this already, but with him teaching us the correct way to tune and set up our bows, we need the properly designed equipment to do it the way he would his own personal bows. I would buy all of this equipment in a heartbeat since I live in Ohio. Otherwise if I had the opportunity, I would be at SVA getting my equipment tuned by MFJJ himself and learning all of his vast bow technician knowledge. Like myself, I think a lot of us are wanting to take the next step and work on our own bows and avoid the disasters we have all experienced at our local proshops. MFJJ's set up equipment would be life changing for myself and many others in the archery community who want things done the right way. It would basically allow us to have our bows set up by MFJJ regardless of where we live, but most importantly by using our own hands to do it.

That's a great tip about the draw board! I had always thought that it didnt' seem right that my bow shifted when I drew it back on my DIY draw board. I'll need to modify it. Do you think Bowtech will be able to make a Deadlock speed bow that draws as nice as the Realm series bows? I can't find any Deadlock bows that draw as nice as the SR6.

Over the past 30 months I have been fortunate to own and shoot the following bows: V3 31 V3 27 V3X 29 V3X 33 Phase 4 33 Image Ventum 33 Ventum 33 Pro VTM 34 RX-7 Ultra Prime Black 3 Prime Black 5 Prime Inline 3 Prime Inline 1 Prime REVEX 4 Bowtech Solution SS Bowtech SS34 I know, that is a lot of bows, but legit I have owned all of those and shot them and sold most of them in Ebay or traded them at my local shop. The Bowtech SS34 is EASILY the best bow of this group and 2nd place is a distant second and that would be the V3X 33. I know, it is totally personal and different for all. I just wanted to share that as someone who has had a chance to really shoot a lot of bows - the SS34 is just incredible. Pros - smoothest draw with no competition, zero shock or vibe, Deadlock system is light years ahead of all other cam lean systems, solid velocity, very forgiving, highly accurate if you do your part, excellent and highly repeatable grip. Cons - crappy factory strings (serving separation on cables in less than 50 shots), no decent 2-piece quiver options, no integrated sight option. Thanks!

Archery Dezign has been making a draw board that has an adjustable grip peg that's staggered for 7 or 8 years, maybe longer. Great design, it's much better than the LCA because of that feature. It also fits in most LCA presses. Also, I totally agree with JJ on a collar being overkill on the front of an arrow. A high quality halfout is all you need. Not a fan of HITS or collars.

This isn’t Josh but I’ve taken a couple bucks and three elk with the SEVR 1.5. I shoot the GT Hunter Pro with a 100 gr broadhead 28.5 inch draw. Arrows probably weigh about the same as yours. They make a big gash on impact. My shots have been 40 yds and under. You’ll be fine if you take nice ethical shots. Be patient and be a good hunter not a desperate hunter and you’ll get a shot. I think you should practice with your quiver on and full minus one arrow and have your stabilizer on. Shoot with your backpack, bino harness, ball cap, whatever you are wearing in the field. Practice making a cow call then fire. Hope this helps. Good luck on your hunt and hope you get the bull of your dreams.

Subscribed and liked. I have watched quite a few of you guy's recent videos and I haven't heard about this question I have asked. Short Draw Theme. I have an elk hunt coming up. I'm shooting a 385gr arrow. 26.5" draw @ 69.5 pounds. going 270 fps. Am I ok shooting a Sevr 1.5" (mechanical)? Also, does adding subtracting weight from stabilizer and shooting with a quiver effect tune. I have been shooting without a quiver this whole time. I have watched your latest broadhead tuning video. I will try that out. I am using the magnus 2 blade hornet if i can get it tuned. Appreciate any feedback. This is a once in a lifetime hunt for me and I have never harvested an animal. yours truly, Tyrannosaurus archer out.
