If you can squat John's bench and deadlift his squat you're among the strongest people to ever live. Lets think about that for a moment

@@haellm9192there’s like 10,000 people in raw powerlifting alone that can do that, not including wrapped and equipped categories. Then also add up all the people who don’t compete and can squat those weights, strongmen, Olympic weight lifters, cross fitters. Then add all the elite athletes from sports like football, rugby, wrestling, and other sports that require strength. The total number would end up probably over 70k-100k people, I wouldn’t say that’s “one of the strongest”

@@vitaliyvorobets2738 If it’s 100,000 that’s still in top 0.0001 of people. And if you say all time like he did which included people for who knows how many thousands of years who didn’t train, certainly even more rare.

Love that you point out how your bench styles are complete opposites and why trying and learning what works best for the individual is the way to go.

Looking strong!! I hope to see you hit that total you are searching for, Totally agree on bench technique. I think the worst thing a young lifter will do is just copy his hero's style, it might work for 1 but not for all. Experiment for yourself

Staying calm after huffing the ammonia is something that needs to be practiced regularly to learn and get used to. Probably at least once a week or so

Hey John What's your opinion on rep ranges/percentages when it comes to lifting? I am not a powerlifter but want to get as strong as possible similar to a powerlifter. I want to know if it's better to avoid 1-3 rep training as it's literally all i do and it wrecks my joints.

From what I've learned, volume management is incredibly important not just for powerlifting but for any kind of lifting and you kind of have to learn how to program for yourself to reach your goal. From what I've gathered, RPE Rate of Perceived Exertion or some folks like to use RIR Reps In Reserve, is important to manage because higher RPE training is not sustainable, yet yields the greatest gains. This unsustainability aspect is magnified when doing lower rep ranges. When increasing the demands on your body it's best to do so in small increments of about 5% or less total volume change. I'm a beginner myself still learning, so take this with a grain of salt, but a training mesocycle should start with volume/intensity low at the first week and build as your body gets acclimated to it, say, in a 4 week program, week 1 would be RPE 6-7, week 2 RPE 7-8, week 3 RPE 8-9, week 4 RPE 9-10, and then deload for a week before the next meso.

The banded bench is used as an supplemental lift? Or you train it dynamically, if so what % of total weight should be band tension?

John, is competition bench 12 in. Width or can it be 14 in width fat pad ? I wondering if you can allow a wider bench for a bigger back frame and if its allowed.

Thank you for video! I always thought that soft touch is harder, because you should control the bar very carefully. Besides why do you use incline close grip bench?
@MHB30
@MHB30 10 ай бұрын
Overall, it’s just a really good muscle builder for the main movers in the bench. a soft touch is usually going to be more consistent, but if you can get a really good heave off the chest, using leg drive, the sinking method may be a stronger option. It’s mostly heavyweight guys that benefit from the sinking method though.
