Today on the Miata build we will be installing a Blackbird Fabworx GT3 Gen 2 roll bar.
I finally finished all the work on the engine bay so we can finally move onto restoring my interior.
First on the to do list is to install my new roll bar. I currently have a Boss Frog roll bar in my Miata but I’m deciding not to run it since its not very safe. Its a double hoop design and I’m concerned that something could get lodged between the two hoops in a roll over situation.
I decided to go with the Blackbird Fabworx NA GT3 Gen2 Roll Bar since it is one of the highest quality roll bars for Miata on the market. I plan to track the car and I want to be as safe as possible when doing so. The Blackbird Fabworx roll bar is an extremely high quality product that is manufactured in the USA. Its laser bent and laser notched. The welds are just beautiful and the fit is pretty much perfect. Plus it just looks awesome with the gussets on the diagonal bars. Its also 100% SCCA Legals so I will for sure pass tech inspection at the track. Also it fits with soft tops and hard tops.
I’m super excited to finally get the roll bar in and one step closer to hitting the track with my Miata.

Great video, very clean install. Especially liked how you used the mouldable door trim on the sheet metal edges. Awesome work! And your refurbed seatbelts look incredible!

The mountable door trim really helped to keep me from getting cut and scratching the roll bar. Also glad I got the seat belts re done. They were ripped up bad in some spots. Thanks again for the encouragement! Also congrats on getting your swap up and running! That’s definitely a huge project you completed 👍 look forward to see it hit the track

Glad you found it helpful! I was a bid scared starting off with the install but it wasn't too bad. Hardest part was maybe cutting out the rear panel. Also lifting the roll bar in and out many times for test fitting haha my arms were so tired. Cheers from NorCal too! Hopefully we'll meet one day at some Miata meet if you're near the Bay Area!

Man, my previous owner just made random cuts and threw out the parcel shelf, so now i just have a rollbar and a hollowed parcel shelf. Looking at this makes me wanna buy carpeting and the parcel shelf from ebay.

I'm considering getting one of these for my miata, I found one for a good deal near me. My only concern is visibility out of the back window. Does it impact the visibility for you a lot? I am pretty short for reference (5'4) so I'm wondering how bad it is. It's between this or a hard dog m2. Love the vid!

I haven’t driven it but I have sat in it and the visibility is still good. The X does cover the lower edge of visibility if you have a hard top but you can still see out of most of it

Hey dude, I'm finally installing this bar and am stuck on the inboard mounting point for the seat belt where you drill the hole. I drilled a hole but the stock bolt doesn't thread in. Did you have to use a thread tapper to get it to screw in? I'm a noob to this stuff so probably a dumb question lmao any help is appreciated

Hey dude, glad to try to help. Are you talking about the bolt that goes into the seat belt mount? Or the 3 holes you have to drill?

The one you gotta drill inwards since you're not using the outer position anymore

@@magicwaffl3z I didn’t have to drill anything for the seatbelt mount. There was already and existing threaded hole when I installed my seatbelt
