the club face control makes a lot of sense. i've spent thousands of dollars on coaches who keep trying to correct my swing path from outside-in to inside-out and while it's helped, changing the club face and keeping my natural swing path has made golf fun again for me. i'm never going to shoot sub 80 but at least i'm not embarrassing myself on the course anymore trying to incorporate everything from my previous golf lesson. i love how micah just keeps it simple. more of these videos please!

1000% better to play your natural path than trying to change it. You can also dial it in more to make it a baby controllable fade and make that work for you. The next level (trying to compete) would be learning to shot shape both. But thats again for somebody wanting to go pro and not just a week by week golfer

What a great video, some times the fundamentals are what we need to get back to when we go down the rabbit hole of tinkering with our swings. I had been trying to come more from the inside so much that it got out of hand. Getting that path more neutral has gotten my ball striking back to where it was before I started to try and change it.

Really good future tip videos could be ball contact , relating to contacting the ball first. Feet and ball positioning. How far to stand away from the ball, and where the ball should be in your stance. Perhaps maybe it differs depending on certain clubs. Hitting fairway woods off the turf is another good, helpful lesson. These would help improve many golfers games, mine included!

Really really good video. I've been rehearsing my take away to feel the impact zone and moment of impact. Has drastically improved my misses. The 1/2 rule of face angle over swing line producing a "straight" ball is something I never knew but am excited to try... Intuitively it makes sense but I've never heard it explained that way. Im scared to try the pause at the top, not sure why.

The comment about tension is a great tip. With my driver I normally hit straight-fades or push-fades and have a tough time squaring the face up. I recently relaxed my grip and it's made a huge difference. The clubhead squares up much easier and I'm driving the golf ball really well. Also helps with speed since you can whip the club through more efficiently. Not as relevant with irons since you're hitting down on the ball and a little tension helps with that and ground interaction. Just my experience.

That was a great video Tig. I have tried that drill at the end and it is a lot tougher to do than it is to explain. All of that muscle memory and timing that has been ingrained into a player makes installing that pause very difficult and then carrying out a swing after can get fairly squirrely. That said, it is doable and if done repetitively it really helps lock in your proper swing. Also, while I knew that the cause of a draw, hook, fade, slice or straight shot was 100% tied to the angle of the face relative to the path of the swing. The visual you shared as you mentally map out your shot was new to me. It makes total sense and you described it so clearly. I can’t wait to practice on the range and see if I can nail it. Of course, I will need to let these 105 F degrees Texas heat days pass before that will ever happen. The sun melts the cover off the balls right now. They just stick to the club face…..it’s like trying to hit a melted marshmallow. 😅

Under pressure what do you recommend to keep you relaxed, and not thinking about future events, such as don’t hit it in the water or out of bounds, or par your last few holes and you’ll your weekly club competition. Then you end up hitting your tee shot in the water, or double bogey your last hole….don’t see any KZfaqrs talk about the mindset at all. It’s a big gap missing. Cheers, Stephen (Melbourne Australia)

Having played and coached for a top Division 1 program I have a little knowledge of the swing . Micah your left shoulder has a tendency to work downward at the start of your takeaway which requires an adjustment during the transition that puts you in a too shallow block right flight or an over the top hold which you can hit a block cut or release and hook ball flight . Work on feeling your left shoulder turning around and up versus the slight downward motion I see at times . Good Luck

all of the above. just swing my dude. when you’re at the top of the backswing, there isn’t time to think, only to react. your body is reacting to the positions its been put in, so if you find that something isn’t meeting a checkpoint, the issue is the position, which is directly connected to the fundamentals (grip, posture, alignment, connection, takeaway, etc)

@@g4yrut You can be in a perfect position, but ruin it with incorrect sequencing. Ultimately the swing starts from the ground up. So it starts with starting to shift your weight towards your lead side and then firing your hips. Shoulders and arms should naturally follow. The issue is that not everyone uses the ground properly in their swing and thus would be lost in doing this drill.
@g4yrut
@g4yrut 9 ай бұрын
@@cobra7282 correct, and the body dynamics of the swing are widely known and demonstrated. Yet, many amateurs can’t complete it. Why? Because so many amateurs spend their practice time overthinking, rather than just being athletic. The downswing involves a weight shift from trail heel to lead heel. This creates our left leg post position, the hands are pulled into the slot, and we rotate around that post. We can discuss the specifics of it constantly, but at a certain point, you simply need to rotate athletically, and stop overthinking.
@cobra7282
@cobra7282 9 ай бұрын
@@g4yrut Well part of the issue is that a lot of amateurs haven't gotten the basics right yet such as grip and set-up. You have very little chance to be athletic in a successful way in the golf swing if one of those things is way out of wack.

During the Tiger drill: are you swinging with a normal swing speed, or are you swinging with a more relaxed (slower) speed? I understand this is about sequencing, so I was just curious. A lot of times in sports, when it comes to mechanical movements, it's often practiced slower to get the muscle memory "correct" and then speeding up that movement (sequencing). I imagine if you're swinging full speed the first time you try this drill it's bound to be even harder, like you say. Thanks, Micah!

I got a range membership for a summer a few years ago and hit around 200 balls nearly every day for 3 months straight. I ended up taking about 8-10 strokes off my score (Mid high 80's down to high 70's) and built a foundation for further improvements over the last couple years. Currently sitting at a 1.7hc and attribute my game to that summer of hitting so many thousands of golf balls.
