Watch as Swedish glassmaker, Micke Johansson demonstrates his own unique style of glassworking in the Amphitheater Hot Shop at the November 2300° event.
At 16 years old, Johansson started to work at Orrefors glassworks where he continued honing his craft for the next 15 years. He became a master glassblower at Orrefors at the age of 24. Johansson has been working from his own studio since 2007. From there, he produces all of his own glass designs. He focuses on glass techniques and specializes in "old Swedish" techniques like Ariel, Graal and the Swedish overlay.
See photos of the pieces out of the annealer at 48:43 and 1:32:32 or on Facebook: / 10155741127370729

That's both correct and what separates it from a graal. Fun but absolutely nerve wracking process. Those old time Swedes had no fear of failure. Nice to see Ariel still done.

I really enjoy these videos, but it amazes me how many people ask questions when the answer to that question has just been given by the narrator. It happens SO much, how come these people don't pay attention? Like the Swedish overlay in this episode, it was explained about a dozen times... Anyway, keep up the good work, it's so relaxing to watch!

Super cool demo! Micke is a star and such a nice person:-) I bought some beautiful pieces from him at his place in Örsjö, Småland. I was truly like a kid in a candy store, haha. Will we ever see a triple ariel, I wonder?

Hey Corning, is it possible in future videos to include the names of the assisting, residential artists as well in the video description and not just in the commentary? Not every viewer is a native speaker and if you want to look up the great guys/gals from your team later on on the website it's sometimes a lot of guesswork...

What is the price of a glass object this size?
@corningmuseumofglass
@corningmuseumofglass 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the artist! When pricing their work, they take into account the difficulty of the techniques they used, the cost of making it, and their years of experience. Thanks for watching!
