In case people are looking 2 years after release, they’ve completely removed microtransactions and decreased the length shadow wars, the game is brilliant now

This is probably my new favorite game. I love the nemesis system, it makes me feel like the Orcs and Uruk’s have a true hatred for me and the thing I do. I love the revenge that comes out of nowhere when playing.

I love to go back and laugh at people who say this is pay to win.

a lot of Shadow of War's story comes from the side quest and tons of random encounters that add to flesh out what has been going on, for instant, one of the random encounters talks about how the Ring of Power to rule them all at the moment is in the shire, they also talk about seeing a hobit would be weird, but she guesses it wouldn't be that weird compared to all the different orcs in Mordor

Shadow of Mordor had controversy and people complaining back before it launched. Same thing is happening with Shadow of War, it seems to be a good game regardless of the addition of microtransactions. Don't care about them, getting the game nonetheless since I love the series. If you don't buy it because of them, message me in a week and I'll let you know how the game is.

(Update) from the year 2019. Games marketplace is shut down. There's no microtransactions besides buying DLC expansions. The game has a Definitive Edition that goes on sale once in awhile for $25 or less.

I can't wait to play this, even if it does have micro transaction. Not gonna buy any tho.

It's on gamepass now. I'm genuinely loving this game. clocked around 25hrs and still going. No regrets downloading this massive game. Everything thing is smooth and almost no bugs. The gameplay still holds up and it reminds me of AC Odyssey.

I came to this comment section expecting “micro transactions are evil” comments and people hating on the game for just that. You know despite it being said in this video that its been stated they will be optional. And honestly I must say I am not disappointed If you anyway care for my 2 cents: The loot boxes give random uruks. In the game (if its like SOM) you should be able to farm and groom the uruks you want. When it comes to online I feel like those that buy will get screwed over. They likely don’t know how to play the game, get random uruks and armor, and when their fortress is destroyed their uruks are killed and they need to buy more.

My main nemesis was invulnerable to ranged AND combat finishers, not to mention he constantly had a lot of ururks around him with other captains showing up. He had other stuff like hate of defeat and monster killer.

Is this game Open World? All the gameplay ive seen has been people raiding bases. Is there actually, a world to explore with like forests and villages, etc, or is it just raiding bases?

To me the game looks great the attacking fortress's,Defending fortress's,setting up spies, and leading an army in a hack and slash game sounds completely right to me and who knows maybe the game becomes really popular like world popular and its played as a national sport.

Absolutely love the weapons looking different now. I got this lovely dagger that sets things on fire and has a gem on it.

I think the storyline of Shadow of Mordor was great. It tells the story of a Gondor captain after Sauron begins to rise, and it explains the background of the Ring and who made it nicely. I'm glad there isn't a timeline gap between SoM and this one.

Shadow of war has to take place at least 2000 years before the fellowship of the ring. Sauron still has a physical presence in shadow of war meaning that the elves and the numenorians have not yet attacked mordor. If anything shadow of war takes place during the silmarillion because of the siege of Mina's ithil and the creation of minus morgal.

This is why many people pirate games and don't feel even slightly bad about it. I used to be all about buying collector's editions for the cool physical goodies, extra media, etc, and had no issue with spending an extra $20-$30 for them. Then DLC became a thing, which weren't necessarily a bad thing because it add new life to a game a few months later, then companies starting hacking out parts of the game that should be part of the normal priced game and called it Day 1 DLC, and charged an extra $5-10, or you had to pre-order, or sometimes both. Then came the dark times, micro-transactions arose, at first they were just in freemium games, and no one took notice because they were a way for "f2p" games to survive, until now when they began infecting full-priced games and putting pay walls in Single Player games. I hear the replies now. "But you don't have to buy them" "You can get everything by grinding" etc etc, that isn't the issue, the real issue is that being complacent about it only let's it grow worse and worse, as we are seeing now with micro-transactions in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. The Fortress thing does not make it online/multiplayer so you can stow that load of bull right now. So I say Pirates Ahoy me mateys, fuck these land-lubbing grubworms right in their money sacks. Take what ya want, and give nothing back.

started playing this game again & forgot how fun the fighting is - its real satisfying & the large number of enemies and the deaths never get old.. The Nemesis System is something i believe can be improved & expanded in the next titles, it such a great feature-

The implementation of an end game makes me so stoked for shadow of war. In SoMordor, I would beat the story, become a man-wraith bad*** and then have no idea what to do with my progress. With the end game though, it kind of feels like the story will never end, because, cinematic missions aside, the game is mostly about capturing and defending fortresses. It really seems like a never-ending war strategy game.

Theres a few comments saying "you can play the game without microtransactions". No, we the consumer vote with our wallets. Paying 60 dollars for a game that advocates singleplayer microtransactions is inherently aggreeing for the practice. When numbers come to crunch for Shadow of Morwar 3 they will weigh the idea per the success or failure of the game when generating new ideas. Thats why I myself and others are holding back if not refusing to pay for it. It sucks but as a gamer I feel the desire to support my hobby by supporting what I enjoy and aggree with. edit: "but you miss out on a great game" actually i dont. Who said it was guarenteed to be something I'd enjoy? As states before, if you buy the game you also inherently aggree to the practices of said game. Edit: whether you agree or disagree, I game for fun. I just also support good consumer/developer ethics because there are trends I'd hate for my kids to experience. I don't really care if you vouch for or against my opinion since you value your time and money differently than me.

The grind in the game isn't bad at all and is fun. That and the armor you can get from an orc is comparable if not better for those there are wondering.

As far as I know, there are only something like 7 balrogs in existence, so it's not like you'd find some random, unnamed balrog that you can tame and ride. They're kind of like the bodyguards of Morgoth, the "master" of Sauron.

I hope one day Ubisoft makes a real middle-earth game regarding the Lord of the Rings epic Peter Jackson's movies. With an awesome open-world roaming as a real adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy world and mythology!

I'm really excited to play this game, it's going to be lot's of fun. I'm very VERY disappointed to hear about number 8 however. One of the reasons I loved the original was because I didn't have to hunt down or farm armor or weapons. Also I liked the way that Talion looked. The loot system is going to drag the game down for me.

The loot boxes are an optional. If you want to spend your real money then do it, if not leave the loot chests untouched like I will.

In games like cs:go, the game is for 15 dollars and only had cosmetic lootboxes, that was when lootboxes started. To correct you on a few points. It does not take place 60 years before fellowship. There are 60 years between the Hobbit and Fellowship. It takes place around a decade after the events of Shadow of Mordor which they stated took place around 5 to 10 years after the events of the Hobbit. Doesn't matter for the game but for the lore it does as they have stated that this game will be as cannon as the movies as even they left things out or changed things from the book. On the topic of micro transactions. According to people that have played the game and published reviews (namely eurogamer) they are pointless. They only provide two things, uruk captains and training orders. These uruk are all generated exactly like the basic ones from the in game nemesis system. So it's unlikely you will discover god like captains in these chests. As for the training orders you only get those from the war chests, however they are single use items to edit the different captains, war chiefs, and overlords you have. But there are two other things that you didn't mention. The game (according to most reviews) pretty much makes it rain mirian upon you so you have plenty to buy all of your upgrades in the game plus plenty for crates if you want. The other is that while yes you can only get training orders in crates, does that really matter? Lets say you want everyone to be an archer. What would take longer? Branding all of the archers currently populating your world, or buying enough crates to get that already low chance of finding enough archer orders to make everyone and archer? Probably the first one unless you are extremely lucky. You can't buy better things than you can find in game and yes you could potentially take shortcuts if you can't find that one blog who has the flamethrower weapon (which let's be honest we all want) but it could potentially take longer than finding a fire olog and letting him kill you or leveling him up enough that he'll get one on his own without having to buy a bunch of crates that end up being filled with useless items you basically don't want.

I doubt loot boxes will significantly affect game on normal difficulty but what I'm afraid of is that hard difficulty levels will just become endless grind and not challenging
