A 5-day, 30 mile paddle through the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. After chartering a private pilot to fly us into the backcountry ranger station of Schafer Meadows, we spent the next 5 days floating out of the wilderness through Class III and IV rapids with many misadventures along the way.

The loss of gear to the almighty Achelous is just tragic. I hope you didn't lose any irreplaceable items.

I lost a baseball cap, but my buddy lost quite a bit of camping and fly fishing gear. I'm sure a few people who came after us were lucky to find some of it.

That's awesome! Coincidentally, those are just about the same dates we did it on (I think we did it July 3rd-8th in 2014). Have fun, enjoy the fishing, check out Castle Lake. Don't drink too much before you run Spruce Park!

Yeah, that's definitely the most exciting part of the river whitewater-wise. None of it was too difficult, you just have to pay attention and avoid a few rocks. It's been two years since we flipped there but it may not hurt to keep an eye out for lost equipment there haha.

LOL hahaha, If I find anything with "Rusty Cranium" on it, I'll get it to you. Looking at the flows you ran at like 10k and I think its at 4k right now! So probably mostly rock dodging! Thanks for the tips. Cheers!

I remember just two weeks before we ran it the area got CRUSHED with a rain/snow storm so it spiked super high and was on the way down when our trip was scheduled. Either way, enjoy! Take some video and post it up here!

Agreed! Hey look there’s a huge rock right in the middle of the river, should we navigate around it? Nah let’s see if we can bumper boat bounce off of it. IDIOTS!
