Street photography is one of my very favourite genres. I love stealing little moments of life as it happens around me. But for many photographers it's one of the trickiest to get into. Street photography isn't that technical but it has certain psychological barriers like not wanting to be caught pointing your camera at a stranger.
To ease yourself into street photography I suggest you begin by shooting what I call street still life images. Little details out in a public place which say 'street' are fairly simple to capture and you won't feel awkward photographing them. Sometimes you can catch people in them by using a wide lens but to begin with - just concentrate on items rather than people. You can move onto them later as you gain confidence.
Before you begin get your camera set up for the kind of light (ISO) and white balance before you begin. I suggest using a semi auto mode like aperture priority (aperture value) because you'll need to move pretty quickly.
If you're not sure about aperture priority please come see us at www.photographycourses.biz/ape... so you're prepared and won't get flustered.
