This week I received an email with a question about the use of Precedence from 2CAudio. "David, where do you put the Precedence plugin? Is it always in the insert chain? And in what order? Is it placed after or before the EQ, Compression, Delays etc.?" I thought this was a good question from Martijn. He told me that he had this plugin for quite a while, but never really found a good tutorial about it. So I replied: I’ll make a special video about it. Showing you how I have used Precedence for my orchestral music track Valse Mystique.

It’s a great affordable logarithmic reverb. But I still have to learn a lot from this plugin. Wish you a great week Florent. Stay safe!

It's a nice piece of music and all but I clicked this because I thought it'd be an in depth tutorial of Precedence and Breeze.

I'm sorry if I disappointed you. In the video I show you my settings of Precedence and Breeze and how I have linked them. If you want to know more about these plugins, feel free to ask. Happy to help if I can.

Thank you for sharing this. You mentioned Junkie XL's Masterclass regarding the multiband compression trick on the low end. Where can I find this Masterclass? :)
@gh0stwrit3r

It was a masterclass for the ones who pre-ordered the JunkieXL Brass Library from Orchestral Tools. It is not publicly available ... sorry.

Hi Lisa, what do you want to know/learn about Precedence? Greets, David

Thank you for the great videos! As a beginner I found a lot of guidance. I assembled a number of tools and libraries that I am learning to use. Tools: LPX, NI & VEP 7; sample libraries (I like choirs): Strezov Wotan/Freya/Arva, VSL/Choir (also got the one of the MIRs) & Solo Voices, VirHarmonic VoP/etc I came across Breeze recently and was struck by its "apparent simplicity". After watching some of your videos I realized that balance is much more complicated than I previsouly thought. There are a number of alternatives but I do not want to learn too many things (the above items are more than enough). Nonetheless, would you recommend getting and learning Breeze/Precedence as a key ingridient in my toolkit along the items I have described above? Thank you!

Hi Alexander, always love to meet fellow enthusiasts of the digital music scene :) About your question, hard to answer. I love the simplicity and effect of Precedence. Not always a major fan of Breeze, still figuring out how to use this reverb in the most optimal way. I guess you could do without them easily. It's all about perfecting and adding those tiny little steps to make it sound more and more professional. I guess there is a thin line somewhere where it really doesn't matter/add up anymore. So I would advise you to first put all your energy into knowing your libraries in and out, exploit them to the fullest. Learn your DAW, NI and VEP 7. And if you still think you need it, then buy it. I can provide you a discount code for both of them, so that would save you some extra money.

@@gh0stwrit3r Many thanks for the detailed answers to both of my questions and for the discount offer! I appreciate the quick feedback. It is already overwhelming to learn the very many required tool components plus the instrumental libraries. I actually spend more time on the tools and librarires then writing music. Hopefully at some point this balance will change.

Hi! Start using Precedence and Breeze. Is there a way to confirm that 2 plugins are connected and work properly? Help
@gh0stwrit3r
@gh0stwrit3r 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is. In Breeze you can see the link between Precedence and Breeze. The link should be activated (it's an image in Breeze and it should be coloured) and have the same name as the instrument in Precedence. You can see what I mean in the video. At 04:40 you see the Cello Pizz connected. I hope it does makes sense ... if not, feel free to ask again.

The placing of your instruments are within the 50's distance, why not toward 100's (make sound stage larger) ? Phase problems? Beautiful video and composing. Many many thks

With the orchestral sections like strings and woodwinds I keep the distance most of the time within the 50 range. But brass and choir go more to the back. Strong epic choir patches go even to the 100!
