I decided to put this video together to show you guys how to install these Mercedes S500 brake calipers on your Mk3 Supra. I scored these brakes from a Mercedes at the junk yard for $35 bucks! This install is pretty easy and definitely worth it. If you guys want a more in depth video on this install let me know!
Things you will need
2000-2002 Mercedes S500 calipers
Hubcentric rings
Larger brake rotors
Machined washers to center the calipers

$35 is an absolute steal! I paid $2k aud for a re-built set with brand new pads and 330mm rotors although that did include the evo rear brembos and rotors which are apparently a lot more expensive than the fronts. The braking force of the car afterwards was incomparable hey, it is such a good upgrade for these cars

I was surprised they were still on the Mercedes when I got to the junk yard. I've thought about doing the evo rear brembos but they are getting harder and hard to find and like everything else, the price has doubled if not trippled in the last few years for the brakes.

So the supra banjo bolt will thread into the caliper? I have these on my car but haven't figured out which brake lines I needed.
@mainstreambuilds
@mainstreambuilds 6 ай бұрын
Yep I used all stock brake lines and the length of the lines were perfect. The stock fittings for the factory calipers thread right in with no modification. I believe I had to pull the line from the mounting bracket in the fender well, but that was it.

Some people on KZfaq say that that they have used the 350z brembo brake upgrade kit rotors to work with the 330mm s500 Mercedes calipers. But the ones I purchased are the 345mm. Thank you

Hi I just found your channel and this video. I need some advice to upgrade the front brakes on my 1991 mk3 Supra. At first not knowing the difference I purchased the Mercedes s500-s600 345mm calipers instead of the 330mm. What size and type rotors should I buy to work well with the 345mm calipers? Thank you

Great video! Just wondering what size the hub centric rings are? Or if you had a direct link? Looking at doing this on my 86 Supra.

So I used the precision motorwerks rings. I don't have the exact part number anymore, but the inside diameter is 60.1 and the outside diameter is 70.1. You could probably just snag some off Amazon.

Hi! I got the rotors are stop tech brand, but What car and model rotors did you use? Nissan Z350? If so, what year? and what trim (track edition?)? Thanks
@mainstreambuilds
@mainstreambuilds Жыл бұрын
So you should be able to use the brake rotors for the Mercedes S500 and I believe Mercedes R350. You will have to hunt around for the stop tech ones but you should be able to use a factory Mercedes rotors for the swap. From my understanding the 350z ones won't work.

What size wheels and offset do you use? I have the same setup on my car but am running spacers. I just saw your video today and see the same wheels I’m looking at getting but can’t measure them up easily while my car is in storage..
@mainstreambuilds
@mainstreambuilds Жыл бұрын
I've been asked this question several times and keep dropping the ball. I need to pull the wheel off and check the offset. These are 18x9s and squared all around (not staggered). I'm running a 225 up front and a 275 in the rear. The wheels came off an evo 8 and were perfect offset. I'm running a spacer on the rears for the over fenders and nothing in the front. I will hit you up on the offset soon.

Does the flare on the hub centric ring prevent the back of the rotor hat from sitting flush against the wheel hub?
@mainstreambuilds

No the back of the ring sits flush with the back of the rotor. The ring has a step that sits right inside the rotor.

I have some questions, I’m running 16 inch wheels, do you think this upgrade will fit ? , or I have to change them to 17 inch , and about the brake line did you used the one from the Supra or the Mercedes
@mainstreambuilds
@mainstreambuilds 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure. I think 16s might cut it a little close. My enkeis are 18s and I have plenty of room. I can take a look at it tomorrow and see what kind of spacing I have between the brake and the inside of the wheel. You will use the factory supra lines. The junk yard wanted to charge me an extra 30 bucks just for the Mercedes lines so I took them off and left them. A lot of people will buy the driftmotion stainless braided lines before they do the conversion.

Depending on the offset and design of the face, I fit them under 17" SSR SP1 rims but I had to machine a radius on part of the flange where the face bolts to the barrels (non structural) and space them out 5mm. If you have a one-piece wheel that has spokes that go to the outside lip rather than a few inches inside the lip like most forgies are you might be able to fit the caliper under 16" rims. There is about 15mm from the outside of the caliper of mine to the inside of the barrel so just over 1/2 inch

Why not 225/40 R18 for tires? And will this brake kit fit 16" original wheels?
@mainstreambuilds
@mainstreambuilds 7 ай бұрын
Not exactly sure why I went with the tires I did at the time. Probably were cheaper haha. I will eventually swap the tires out for the 595s. That way I will have a matching set. As for fitting with factory wheels, I'm not 100% sure. I ditched my factory wheels a loooong time ago. If I can source a factory wheel I will definitely try and bolt it on and see if it will fit. I have had this question a few times now and would love to provide a good answer for you guys.
