Based on the video and the discussion start trying to guess which 318 (1985, 1990, or 1991) will be the first to get cut from the 318 repair program.

I got lucky and bought my 318 with a deck and tiller for $200. Had to do a little work on it, but not too much. I eventually found a snow blade pretty cheap. Love my 318.

I think you did well on your prices. I bought my 1990 318 last fall from a neighbor for $2600 with snow blade and 46 inch deck, and I'm in Iowa. It is in great condition and has 600ish hours on it. Every now and and then I think I might have overpaid a little bit. Your auction style is bold, I'm the kind of guy that does choice on tool box and only buys bottom in hopes of top going cheaper second time around lol.

Just bought a house. A 318 will be my light work machine on our .8 acre with long driveway. Mulch, gravel, dethatch, seeding, and snow. Mowing will be handled by my craftsman.

just got my first 318 a few months ago. paid 1500 for it. about 1k hours with a front loader and a front 2 piston blade. also a 48 inch deck and 3 point. the deck is a mess and needs some welding and the motor needs new rings. but over all runs pretty well. i don't mind doing the rings. not for the price i paid. this one joins my family of a cub xt1, sears 14/6 and custom 10.

Linamar took over production from Onan sometime in 1998 if my history serves me correctly. The P218G in the 1985 318 was built in the last year of production of the engine through Onan. After Linamar took over the engine became the LX770 (18 hp) and the LX790 (20 hp). Many years ago I have a Linamar LX770 that was built sometime in 2001. Sad that I sold it now.

eBay and Facebook are going to be the best places to locate them. Occasionally some places will be restoring them. Used ones tend to have worn out bushings and can get pretty sloppy. One of those things you just have to look for.

I have 2 318’s I have a few questions for you I have wondered the person before with the first one said he rebuilt his engine. But I believe he forgot a flyball spacer in the rebuild (facepalm) but I think I had a issue it was the one with points. Also the 2nd one newer Onan has no clutch startup after you turn the clutch off also the older one has this same issue. Also then I need to look at the stats. I’m looking at getting a 316 with the onan for parts. The new one almost caught fire because the wire harness melted. I believe this happened because of overheat from the past owner not replacing a flyball just like the other. I don’t feel like tearing the engine apart can I run them with a bad flyball spacer or should I fix both and restore them? Or just junk them and take the parts off an onan from a 316 which matches the engine model on the older engine. So I’m not sure what I should do. And if it’s safe to run a bad flyball spacer I’ll comment on my other channel “TheDailyBench” and I’ll post a walk around and you can help me fix my 318’s I have but you can reply to this for basic ideas

Question for you, maybe you can help me with my 1983 318. Bought it from my uncle who mainly used it pull his trailer around the yard. Only has 4** hours on it and was supposedly rebuilt in 1998 for some reason unknown.( My uncle has only owned it a few years) The problem is it surges some at idle and as you rev it up. If you put some load on , it mostly goes away. I also had the air filter off and it smells of fuel. When I start it up, some gas comes up out of the carb when its starting and when you go to shut it off. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

The money you paid for the 318's plus the repair costs is going to push it way out of my budget.

I can't help but wonder why some have black hood hinges and some are unpainted. I've seen unpainted hinges on a lot of low-hour unrestored machines. Wonder if replacement hinges come painted black, or they started painting them black at some later point in production? The black seats with JD logos on the '90 and '91 caught my eye as well...but for all we know, someone could have just bought them from a farm supply store and added the logos to them.

Will 318 hoods fit 420. I'm thinking about getting a 318 so what's the few things I should consider looking at. I know the films showing things but want more data please.
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
The 420 hoods are specific to the 420 and maybe one of the 55 series SCUT. The 318 hood is a good bit smaller. If you have not found my 318 vs 420 videos yet those might help give you an idea of size difference.
@robertduncan27425 жыл бұрын
@@mmrbeef I saw the 318 420 film. All films are a great help. My 420 has a crack in the fiberglass but only a few inches long so a easy fix with a little time. I'm hoping to get a 318 later since I have a plow for one and just got a 420 plow and considering a bucket. I'd like to find a tiller later. See ya in more films and thanks

$1200? That’s a steal. There going for more then for 1 tractor. With a mower deck they go for like $2000 each, or is that $1200 for each?
@MichaelTJD605 жыл бұрын
Depends on location. I've bought running 318's with decks in need of TLC for as low as $400 and $500, which is pretty fair for where I live and the condition they were in.
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
It is $1,200 each... So $6,000 in 318's and a 322... As a group well worth it.... Individually, not worth it in 2-3 cases. I'll get into that as we move forward with the series.
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
Even in the midwest this would be a typical price for a machine like the 1983 unit. But I was after a group so like I said in the video I overpaid for some and underpaid for others.

Flip seats were never on John Deere 318 stock
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
Flips seats were standard according to the parts books at serial number 475,001 which is the start of the 1988 model year. However, I know of several 1987 units that have flip seats from the factory so my guess is Deere made the change sometime in 1987 in preparation for the 1988 model year. The "Deluxe Seat Suspension" was optional throughout the production run of the 318. It was standard on the 430.
@haydenschneider35 жыл бұрын
