I never buy new cars or fancy cars, usually old Suzukis and old Toyotas. I buy unbranded, or sometimes I buy cheap 5-11s from LAPG, mostly because I can wear them at work as they are compatible with uniform code. I also buy a large amount of clothes from Goodwill. I shop at Aldi, went to Community College, and worked to pay my way through. I live in a small affordable house, and think that I have benefited greatly from having been raised to be frugal and hard working.

A bargain, getting something of great value a modest price, may be found in tutoring as you have suggested in other talks. I would urge parents to try it with their high school age children before giving up on physics, chemistry, or calculus. Even if the student decides science, engineering, or medicine is not for them, they are deciding from a point of knowledge. Another bargain is the SAT. The student and parents now have objective evidence of where the student fits in academically if they go to college at all.

Not sure about law school. Much more opportunities out of a top tier school. Lower schools tend to leave graduates with very poor employment opportunities.
