@@chickysoria2010 the acid is used only for defense and for deterring predators. Centipedes however use their venom for killing its victims.

The fact that the Vinegaroon doesn't have venom, its armor is so tough the centipede can't even find a spot to bite and that their own method of killing prey is just pure crushing force makes them the definition of the tank class in the arachnid world. These little guys are badass. They make solid pets in North America too.

+Lord Bobbit This centipede was 2 inches long though. Many species of centipede to get over 8 inches, and the largest of its kind, Scolopendra Gigantea, can reach nearly 12 inches long. Stag and Tiger beetles always beat it though. Emperor scorpions and water bugs also occasionally can kill a very large centipede.

The Pokemon "Drapion" is actually based on the vinegaroon, even one of it's abilities "Battle Armor" (Protects the Pokemon from critical hits) is reflective of this.

So what if it was small? A bigger centipede still wouldn't be smart enough to go for the vinegaroon's legs instead. Besides, the vinegaroon in this was small too, they normally grow to be like 4 inches.

Paegan Terrorist dude put 4 each vinegaroon against a 8+ inch giant dessert centipede and I guarantee the centipede would easily win. Centipedes will beat just about anything provided they aren’t so much smaller then there prey. The vinegaroon may be the only exception to that, the centipede may need to have a size advantage to win, but not a huge one. I say a 6inch centipede could beat a vinegaroon.

KaitouTheMobzz It would either be impossible or nearly impossible to do that considering the size of the centipedes fangs. Its fangs are modified legs, so it would be hard to bite something small like a leg.

I had a flight back from Orlando to Atlanta 22 years ago next to a grizzled but successful Viet Nam fighter pilot. He said that while in pilot training, his roommate at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX would go out to catch creatures in the nearby scrublands and "keep things in boxes under his bed that you wouldn't want in your HOUSE". One time his roomie put a vinegaroon up against not one but TWO tarantulas in the same cage, and, in the pilot's words, "the vinegaroon tore 'em up". Acetic acid is not to be taken lightly in the invertebrate world.

I like the irony of the *actual* scorpion losing to a centipede, and the vinegaroon (like a nerfed scorpion) winning. The scorpion's reliance on its seemingly superior weapon proved to be its undoing, it just couldn't get a solid hit through a centipede's carapace, and once the tail was disabled, it was all over - its claws were way too weak to do anything. Meanwhile, the vinegaroon - which relies much more on its powerful claws - was able to get a centipede into a vice grip and crush it.

The Scorpion may have been able to win had it not lost it's nerve and tried to retreat. In the initial skirmish with both claws and tails fighting head on, while it couldn't get a solid hit, it WAS keeping the centipede at bay and would have eventually got a hit in. When it turned and ran, it gave the faster centipede a chance to disable it's tail, and when it tried to fight again head on it no longer had the threatening tail to back it up.

Both were smallish but the Centipede was twice the size of the Vinegaroon. Usually these two don't meet as while both are in the desert they tend to be in different areas. The Vinegaroon got a tight grip on the Centipede leaving it unable to use its usual tactic of wrapping around its prey and eventually when the Centipede was trying to find a place to bite it caught the head in its left pedipalp and crushed it - battle over.

Lol centipede fanboys can't believe that it got torn to shreds and argue that a giant centipede will destroy it. Guess what? There was a battle and the vinegaroon slit its throat like it did here. This arthropod was built to tank blows and crush the opponent with brute strength while degrading the opponents armour with its acid spray known to break down the exoskeletons such as the centipede's.

Ill never get those freak centipede fanboys. There is also a massive centipede that a amazing praying mantis held down and ate it alive slowly. Had to be the baddest mantis I ever seen it was smaller then the centipede but it held down both sides of the pede and just went to work. It was on those japanese bug fights.

Funny. Centipede fangirl here 😂 because this is how I feel about mantis fan babies crying when I saw a video of Scolopendra wasting a full grown female mantis and began to devour it. It was cathartic. About time a mantis loses. XD First time I ever heard of Vinegaroon. (Sounds like a pokemon or Dr. Seuss creation) and that is a bad-ass arthropod. Just not as terrifying or cool to me as a centipede. Your favorite pokemon can't win ALL the time! 😂

I hate centipedes. I was bitten by one as a kid, playing around with a toy boat and it was inside it. It crawled out and bit me. The most painful insect bite I've endured. And the way they move is disgusting

Vinagaroons are also known as Whip tailed Scorpions....absolutely amazing cool creature one of my favs of Bug Wars.

1 inch for vinegaroon seems small. Coyote Peterson handled one that was 4-6 inches. He said it was really heavy compared to similar arachnids because of the thick armor.

If this was a Sonoran giant centipede vs a vinegaroon from the same area the outcome would likely be different. The giant centipedes in Arizona and Texas reach 12 inches in lenght and are like something out of your nightmares.

Vinegaroon can pinch you. Their acidic fluids also (slightly) burn on the skin. However, they are not poisonous

I think the vinegroon would win that war too. Vinegroons get pretty big, 4 to 5 inch body, and they're armor is so hard that I doubt even a desert centipede's front claws would ever penetrate. The only hope for the centipede would be if it could get it's claws into back section of the vinegroon, which is a little easier to penetrate, and pump enough venom into it to take it out but that's a long shot.
