Hemi 245 (+40), 600 holley (1850), E49cam, forged pistons, H beam rods, Yella Terra rockers, 265 valves mild port, 10.1 comp.

Love the juxtaposition of the Kirks red creaming soda with the equally red and wet Transmission Fluid. I will never be able to drink creaming soda again, without the smell and oily texture of transmission fluid entering the equation. Good stuff.

My Dad had a VIP with the 318, but I just love the 265, many years ago I had a Hemi Pacer with a factory 4 speed. Converted it to a 4 Barrel and it just screamed. Ate fuel like a monster. Sounded brilliant. Love what you did to that thing.

Haha the smell of trans fluid takes me straight back to taking the BW35 out of my 70 VG back in '82. I was under the transmission, easing it off the engine when the torque convertor came off and I got a face full of oil! I couldn't move out of the way so I just had to wear it. I couldn't afford to get it reconditioned so I stripped it down myself and replaced the clutch pack plates, diaphragm spring and bands and put it all back together. Went fine after that so I was pretty chuffed I was only 18. That 245 Hemi really sang I loved that motor. Thanks

A pacer specification E34 camshaft would work well in that engine with around 490 lift on exhaust and intake.... My preferance would be 218 224 110LSA with 485 485 lift... With crow cams chromemolly pushrods.... Would like to build a centura with a four speed very similar to this build.... 👍👍 Nice job on the porting and match porting....

Just had a 245 6 cylinder dropped off for a tear down and rebuild, looking forward to playing around with it and seeing how it turns out.

I have a 245 that I’m looking at doing the same with. Without being too forward could you let me know a ball park figure in terms of cost. I’m in regional NSW and have had some quotes that scared me to death one came in at 15K

the only thing ive ported is two strokes and mowers, but im looking forward to doing a car of mine, i have a 245 but thinking 265 245 head , its a future engine to run a HUGE alternator for off grid batteries , and if i ever get another centura ill have just the engine.

I didn't see the valves being back faced....that's lost free power, also do you see the black ring in the head just below where the valve seat is? you grind that ring out until there is just the slightest shadow of a line left under the seat.......more free power

Hemi slant six, i believe that they were only in Australia. America got the regular slant six.

Suds Reserve it’s not a slant people. It’s an up right 6. Loves to rev. They raced these engines from 1970 in Australia.

We used the slant six in our valiants & smaller dodge trucks to around 1969 or up to the VF, then we used these upright in-lines from 1970 onwards as you see here in 245c.i. In various stages of tune in standard cars & hardtop re warmer versions in the Valiant pacers to a rarer 4barrel version in the Bathurst model, & from 215, 245, 265 c.i. To Hot triple Weber Units in 265’s in chargers, apparently Chrysler USA were going to use this design but never did & gave it to Australia to develop for our cars.

It’s a stock as a rock BW35 with a custom 3000 converter.

@@Dazza. ok well everyone said they are weak, i used a few in the 1980s, behind a 265 cl sedan ect, seem to be fine, only issue was in reverse backing out of a steep gutter, i give it a bit of juice, pop lost reverse and first of course. but only issue we had. glad you like the Valiants, great cars.

@@Dazza. pacer specs are 250 cubes, which they came 40 over from factory, its why they went so dam good, i had a 2 door pacer as my first car, sweet car, 2 barrel, but as you know, they are just so peppi. and a 265 is a bored out 245, chryslers way to make the 265 happen as experimenting. then they just improved another head, aint no slouch a 245 i know that much.

You have a pump to do that, never done that in 100 s of engine builds, start motor and idle in a minute all full

Seems a shame to use a 2 barrel carby on a 4 barrel manifold. Those 600s make them go good.

not really a "Hemi" but I understand why you call it a Hemi, it has domed chambers. The valve are not canted to follow dome and plug is not center of chamber but again, I get it. Long as you have fun with it that's all that matters

It is branded as a hemi by chrysler, it has hemispherically heads, is more impressive than the 426 hemis too

Valves are canted at 8 degree and plug position has noting to do with hemi chamber! This 8 degree set up is now best practice in head design look at Honda CRF 450 , the only reason a 426 hemi has valves canted side to side is cross flow, the best way is how this engine is,

Actually the valves are slightly canted, note the pushrods are not perfectly parallel & the Rockers are slightly tilted, hence the spacing with the each rocker being closer to a rocker of it neighbour’s cylinder than the other rocker of it’s own cylinder
