There was a probe to Mars called the Beagle 2. It failed because the UK engineers used metric measurements/units and the US engineers used imperial. The parachute failed to open and it crashed. In Karl speak - there's a dishwasher on Mars! 🤣

The Mars lander he's talking about is Beagle 2. A british lander that piggy-backed on the Mars Express spacecraft. considering it's miniscule budget it was very nearly successful. Just one panel failed to deploy on landing. All down to one guy, professor Colin Pillinger.

I just had a realisation during the "hours of the day" part .. there is 24 hours in a day. 24/3 = 8... 8 Hours working (as we say a 9-5 job), 8 Hours non-work time and 8 Hours sleep (recommend for adults as ideal sleep time).. in other words.. KARL WAS ON TO SOMETHING WHEN HE SAID THE DAY IS "MAN-MADE"

can never go wrong with some good ol karl. on a side note have you guys heard or reacted to Queen's bohemian rhapsody :P ? it couldn't be more far from what music I've always listened too but its one of them songs where its so unique and quality , it is immediately legendary status regardless of genre :P would be a cool reaction , done a little search and it didn't show on ya channel

Ricky is too smart for his own good sometimes in an effort to shut down Karl. Chimps have a opposable thumbs, its the poor quality of the precision grip they have though which is the problem. Instinctively they'd use a more primitive power grip that they use to smash things open etc

@@wildwine6400 Thanks for your reply, this encouraged me into reading more about it! They often use what is called a "pincer grip" that humans don't tend to use often. Either that or they use the thumb to kind of brace objects gripped by the fingers/palm. But yeah, they don't tend to use 'precision grip' as much or as skilfully as us - that's the 'writing with a pen' type of grip I think. It seems to be evolutionarily very significant.

That period between the two sleeps is when couples would fornicate if they were trying to have a baby! There was an old wives tale that there would be a better chance of conceiving then. Not sure if there's any science behind it

Haahaa, so funny. Yes, it’s still somewhat common in Spain to have an afternoon siesta although it seems to be dying out. I have to say, come 3pm I have fallen asleep at my desk involuntarily, so there must something hard wired into humans. For me at least!!

I'm not even 2 mins in & can see you guys struggling to enjoy this like you normally would, obv because of the soaring heat... I know your fan is no use, but have you ever tried or considered an air cooler fan? I've just recently got 1 & it's good. It has a 6 ltr water tank at the bottom, with a water pump. You can put ice packs in the water & when you have it turned on, the water pumps up to a reservoir at the top of the machine, runs thru a line of holes taking it down thru a filter at the back where the air intake is, thus blasting out cold air, & the water runs out the filter back in to the water tank again & just keeps circulating.

@@chi6801 Yeah, they mentioned during their livestream the other night, that they were getting heats of up to 35 degree centigrade. Impossible to enjoy anything other than a cold drink & a cool breeze in those conditions.

I prefer waking up in the middle of the night for an hour or two then going back to bed, but that's hard to do when I have work the next day. If I'm off I prefer 4hours x 2 if I have work I prefer the 8 hours if Imlucky enough to get that

I do vaguely recall the "longer days" thing. I think it was actually something to do with potentially getting rid of Daylight Savings Time, which they haven't.

Regarding sleep patterns. The theory of artificial light changing our sleep, once fire was harnessed we deferred sleep in the dark. Regarding the change of sleep patterns. In medieval times during the summer people would sleep during the dark hours. But in winter people would go to sleep at sunset, get up in the early morning (2ish I guess) and do things in the house by candlelight for a few hours, and then go back to sleep until daylight. The industrial revolution demanded people work set hour so sleep patterns had to change, not based on light (artificial or natural) but by a clock, dictated by shifts
