All my non biking friends can't believe how complicated the motorcycle licencing scheme is, its like a maze designed to keep people away from motorcycling!

yea because its dangerous thats why. I thought if you did your CBT and theory test (without taking the mod 1 and 2) then you can ditch your L plates on your 125cc?

@@steve00alt70 A year late but no, the L plates can't come off until you have an A, A1, or A2 license.

Your video gave the impression that the CBT was for 16 year olds on an AM provisional 50cc. It could of been made clear that at any age with a provisional motorcycle license to A1 category from 17 years of age needs a CBT and importantly only lasts 2 years where you can then take another. Currently there are no limits on multiple CBT but I'm to believe that this is being reviewed?

I started riding in Singapore while i worked there. Similar structure 1st licence(B2) up to 200cc, after 1 year of passing (B2) you can take the B1 license for bikes up to 400cc, and after 1 year etc for the B licence for unlimited bike cc. The B and B1 licence test is more of a refresher but the B2 licence is very bureaucratic with about 30 sessions of video, theory and practical lessons. And you can't ride a B2 bike on the road until you have passed the test.

The Honda Schools sound a great option. But as a first time rider would you suggest taking their CBT and Step-Up courses, or go straight to their Full course? Age permitting.

So when you turn 17 do you have to take another cbt or can you hop straight on to a 125 because I’ve already done my 50cC cbt so I’m a bit confused

Ive got a full B licence. Been driving for 3 years. Had a moped back when i was 16. Could i do a CBT for my A2 licence and ride it on L plates?

I should love to see hard scientific evidence to justify each of the specific elements of this complex system. And if age-related power limits are appropriate to bikes why not cars?

Probably more to do with the high percentage of deaths on the roads are unfortunately bikers!

a question please, can i ride an older faster moped 50cc, than the restricted 31mph mopeds of today, i passed my car test in 1977 yeah im old, i know i wouldnt need a cbt or L plates, i asked the dvla the same question, they couldnt answer it, thank you

Can you tell me we’re the Honda school are located that I could do full week and get a full A license. Yes I am well over 24 years old. Also what would the cost be for this full weeks training.

So, I am 42 so age isn't an issue, I have a full UK car licence, and I only wish to ride scooters upto 125cc, mainly because this is often what I rent abroad/travelling etc, so based on this video I need my CBT and then A1? is that correct?

I have been riding for many years, and have my full licence (was taken in South Africa many years ago!). b My wife (55) wants to take up riding, so what does she have to do??? The whole thing seems overly complicated to me!

I've been doing just that. I think it's only a restriction if you take your test on an automatic, then you can't ride a geared bike

Thanks for the information. I am a bit confused whether I can ride a motorcycle above 800 cc with a provisional license and L plates on (I am above 24)

No, except when under instruction or examiner supervision. On your own (after CBT and with L plates), the provisional licence lets you go upto 125cc.

Can you do your A2 Licence on a provisional licence , I am over 24, Got my CBT and done my theory test.

Yes as you have a valid CBT and theory and are over 24 you can go straight to your A2 license. I my self am 32 just done my CBT got my theory today. And I'm riding a 125cc wk scrambler to get my self used to riding and for practice. I will be going straight for the das my self in the spring. Hope this helps

Some facts are wrong he states on a cbt you can only ride a 50cc but that's only at 16 the day u turn 17 you can hop straight onto a 125 with L plates

my friend brought a vfr 750 put a side car on it so he did not have to do the cbt the cbt is not a goverment run test cbt is a private buisness and 1 can set up a cbt

So,,,,Assuming it is bike that is 200cc,,,But,, Can only do 65/70 max. Where does it fall in the Catogary.???. I am thinking ,,Triumph cub..???.

I have cat A on my licence but never taken a bike test, can you enlighten me, the date on my licence is 19/01/2013 to 2037 thanks 👍

You'll have the restriction code 46 or 125 (trikes only) on your licence. On 19th Jan 2013 the licence categories changed to make trikes part of category A. As you would have passed your car test prior to this you get grandfather rights to ride trikes.

@@michaelaris58 I'd forgotten that one, 79(3) also means restricted to tricycles. Why there's 3 different codes for tricycles is anyones guess.

A1 license is basically a cbt but you don't need L plates and you can use motorways and have passengers

@@sandman3881 Only if you ride it accompanied by a qualified instructor. You can't ride anything bigger than a 125cc solo with L plates, even if you have an a1 licence. You also can't ride a bigger bike restricted down to a 125cc. A1 is basically for 17/18 yr olds and people that have no intention ever of getting a bigger bike but don't want to do a cbt every two years.. A2 is for 19 yr olds...but if you are older than 24 it is pointless doing those tests, if you want to eventually ride any bike.. Do the A licence, it's the same tests, just a on bigger bike.

Those folk will need CBT ..then go via Direct Access ( and pass a theory test ) ..onto bigger machine...be it A2..or full unlimited licence ....full details on GOV. web site
