JJ is everyone's fave haha, most likely because he had the most emotional depth and his backstory was explored the most. But it's a good show.

I think the actor that played Rafe actually did an amazing job, he had to play someone completly different of himself and he conveyed well the way that rafes mental state deteriorated throughout the show. I felt his character also showed well the entitlement that wealthy people can have but also what can happen when children feel neglected and just want recognition from their parents. :)

It definitely had some bad moments but I enjoyed the treasure hunt story the most. It’ll be interesting to see what Netflix does in announcing a S2. Appreciate you watching my review!

honestly I didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else did. I thought that it was too far fetched like towards the end I just got thrown off because it was all too much. I enjoyed the beginning but the whole “avenge my father” or “oh lookie I’m a hero whooop whoooppp” is overused. for starters I was really in love w/ the way the town was built and I thought the setting played well. they could’ve easily made this show into just a teen drama that captures so much realism involving the loss of a parent, abuse, drug addiction, poverty etc. I thought that the “kooks” and “pouges” and the rivalry between those two groups all because of social class was really great, it showed how scummy spoiled teens can be along w/ how corrupt the upper class is. I really liked JJ’s background I thought that was great. so when it comes to teen mystery dramas I feel as though they are extremely flawed by default- no 16 year old is that smart like really? a guy triple their age couldn’t figure it out? all the social issues just got thrown away by the murder and felon on the run it was just too much. it should have been either or- but honestly I would’ve loved it if it wasn’t a mystery and it was instead a teen drama because it would just be more realistic in general and I feel as though we didn’t get enough of the classism and the drug addiction along with all the other issues presented within the characters lives. also the ending was really cheesy- “I wOuLd rAThEr dIe WiTh yoU”. but honestly the first half was good the last half just went out of control.

Yeah I agree with a lot of what you said and wish it would have mixed in the the stories better when it came to all the teen drama. Really appreciate the insightful and detailed comments and watching my review.

They should’ve had the age group of the characters be different. Like 17 or 18 would’ve been better.

No the characters. The actors themselves are way older, but if the characters were written to be older, the show could be more believable.

Oh gotcha, yeah no I completely agree like college students. I guess it was important to have them that age to make Johns B story more important with him and the social services plot 🤷🏽♂️

That’s the thing .. they didn’t start off the show well . It took so long to get to the point of the story . But after the 3rd episode it started to become better .

Sarah's brother and his drug dealer where hilarious 😂 but I do agree they were pretty cringey at times and I didn't have an issue with topper because when the name like that you're definitely a douchebag I enjoyed your breakdown I think season 2 has a lot of potential go in a lot of directions maybe we can link up and do a discussion and probably give predictions for s2

Yeah man, those scenes with Rafe and Barry were something else and some of that teenage drama stuff just didn't work for me, but I was still able to find enjoyment out of the adventure treasure hunt storyline. Yeah I would be down to talk about what could happen in a S2.

Thanks for the review! I enjoyed the show a ton overall, but I definitely agree they could have gone without some of the very far fetched moments that were thrown in. I am really hoping for a second season though.

Hey man great review!! If I will say so myself I think that the connection between sara and John he was meant to be that way. The show was intense and dramatic and followed a story line in which we saw very few moments of John B and Sarah together. I know I personally wanted to see more of them alone but I think season 2 will focus on the love connection rather than the criminal life.

I just finished the season and o was excruciatingly bored for the first 4 episodes. I found 5-7 really enjoyable but the end of the season was just so ridiculously dumb and I couldn’t believe any of their decisions or anything thus happened. I’m glad there’s some people that like it but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. JJ is far and away the best character. He seemed the most developed and flesh out and I thought he was fun. Sarah is the worst. She’s bland and she’s boring and her entire personality was “hot white girl”

Great Review! Agreed with many of your points. I found the show tough to watch as the story progressed. It went from an adventure, action drama between 4 friends to this romantic, chaotic police chase. The treasure hunt and John B's dad mystery propelled the plot forward and piqued my interest. However, I honestly found the romance between John B and Sarah boring. I felt like I had watched it before, even the dialogue felt predictable and cliche. Despite its many flaws, my biggest issue was the show's descent into chaotic madness, as a teenage treasure hunt spiraled into a police chase and eventual shipwreck. It lost its touch of reality, and I can honestly say I stopped enjoying John B and Sarah. However I have a few pros: Great dynamic between the 4 main characters, love the treasure hunt, The backstory of John's Dad was great, I thought the villain was great and I enjoyed the first half of the season.

Couldn't agree more with you on the change of pace and switching the treasure stuff to teen drama. Apparently there will be 5 seasons of this show so hopefully we'll get a better balance of the two. Thanks for watching my review.

What I liked was how little of technology the used like it takes place in this time and they have phones but they don’t use them all the time and I love that and how they go boating and just chill not always looking at their phones. And being 19 I wouldn’t say half the stuff they do if far fetched especially depending on where they’re from, I knew people who smoked at 14 and got their hands on alcohol and doing their own thing so I think them being like what John B said “ignored and neglected” made sense with them doing whatever they want in my opinion. But I also see how some things don’t seem realistic but I enjoyed it for the most part and hope season 2 does better and have a interesting story.

Np I just wish they filmed season 2 and that they can release it but apparently there could be up to 4 seasons I was reading something about it

I disagree the you on the reef character. I thought he was a very good actor and it was needed so that the audience can see the negative aspect of the wealthy. Kids that grow up in that lifestyle can feel like they don't have any purpose in live which makes sense since many of them (not all) never had to work hard for anything. Pressure is added when the father's backstory was revealed of how he worked for everything he had. At that point, reef is now in his father's shadow. So with no purpose or goals except to carry his father's legacy which he is failing at & nothing but time and money at his disposal, that type of character can turn to drugs to fill the void which happened. Also it makes sense that it was cocaine given the circumstances. As for the psychotic side of him, I don't think he was psychotic at all. He was just a coked up character doing extremely impulsive things & making excuses for himself by going over in his head of why he did those things. His character definitely needs professional help but he's more of a lost rich kid than a kid with a psychotic disorder. Its funny, the movie Romeo must die is on Netflix & although it's a terrible movie, the character "colin" (the son of delroy lindo's character) is exactly like reef.

I think Officer Peterkin did know about ward. I think she was helping ward find the gold, and she was going to get a share of it. I think this because after she gets shot, ward asks her, “Why did you do it? We could have worked something out.” It seems to me like she wanted ward to kill those two guys, so that they wouldn’t take the gold.

I really enjoyed the show, I do want a season 2. I could relate to some of the characters and seeing people free outside with friends kind of made me jealous ngl. I think the characters are really well done and you really feel for them. Like Stranger Things I feel like the adventure is lesser to the characters, and the character work carries the show and I just really enjoyed it. I think the finale was a little ridiculous. I wish there was more of a conclusion and wrap up. The drug storyline I felt detracted from the show, I just never cared and was just an annoyance for the show. Made it a little over-complicated.

I agree episodes 1-6 were excellent and I was captivated by the treasure hunt. But once it morphed into the Romeo and juliet, Bonnie and Clyde it just got too far fetched. Show went down hill once the gold was found. I totally agree with you.

Yeah I know a lot of people liked the whole love story teenage drama stuff but to me, it was the weakest aspect of the series as far as development. Appreciate you watching my review and commenting!

In my opinion, next season (which is confirmed!) they should stay with the more mystery / treasure hunt theme instead of what ever the fuck those last few eps were. i'm sure there's some other mystery they can solve while also giving the characters some more backstory and also continuing their current character arcs. could've gone without rafe as well but ya know.. overall i'm excited for a new season but they need to be careful to not end up like riverdale and more like beach goonies!

I just found John B incredibly cringy and almost unwatchable as the show progressed. Most of the characters just don't act like 16 year olds. A lot of the story line was just very far fetched, unbelievable and sometimes even random (I could get into some examples but that would take too long).

yea i agree that john b and sarah are only sixteen, but I think the reason that sarah ran off with john b is cuz she just found out the truth about her father and watched her brother kill the sheriff so she does not want to go back home and john b is the only other person she has. since john b is on the run, she wants to go with him since she has no one left. thats prolly why it turned into the "teen drama" with the love story but in the heat of the moment, she had no other choice.

and also the sheriff found out about Ward, and although I have no idea why she gave him the compass, she was told by Scooter's wife about how Ward had killed Big John. She was tryna arrest him until she got shot by Rafe.

@@MovieFiles I don't think she was okay with it but she had no evidence; the whole season she is trying to find that evidence. and even though she met with him while he had the hook thing she couldn't just arrest him because the other police would probably get sus as to how she knew. I'm not really sure cuz it never really explains but that's what I think.

SPOILERS: I’m not sure what to think about episode 6, there some things/decisions that caught me off guard, like just having the boys get the two girls Kiara & Sarah stranded & abandoned on the boat without keys, I understand that the two girls don’t get along, & the boys want the girls to work with them on their quest/mission, but the way the boys plan it was a bit too much, like they were forcing/punishing the girls to stay stranded on a boat & I just don’t see the boys as the good people and I’m not sure I like them or not, it’s just seems a little too much. I’m pretty mixed with this episode & I don’t hate the show or anything, I’m just not sure or don’t know if I’ll keep watching the show or not. Is it just me or its like Pretty much this type of resolve or drama or stuff like that drives the show down.

Yeah that was forced and something that I've seen before and I've never really been of fan of it because the characters should have something more interesting or compelling to have them come to a understanding. Some of the motivations and choices these kids made was hella distracting... like what teenager in the 2020s doesn't know WTF to do?

I believe the writing is good and the acting is even better BUT I think it will only appeal to a 30 year old or less crowd. The show is just a tad too adolescent for a more mature viewer.

I watched the first episode and HATED it haha. But "The Midnight Gospel" and the "Innocence Files" just dropped on netflix and i loved them both. Will you watch "Extraction" this week? Nice review!

Movie Files sweet! I might continue on tho wit it cause you say it gets better as it progresses in the first bit. Innocence is about the innocence project getting people off of death row (like in "Just Mercy") and it is the docu-series about it. Really good stuff. Curious to hear your thoughts on extraction then 🤙

I usually don't watch the pilot and just start at the 2nd or 3rd episode. If I had started with the pilot episode, I probably wouldn't have continued watching.

If they can balance the teenage drama and adventurous aspects better than yes. I really like the characters but there were so many moments and storylines that I didn’t care for toward the last half of the season. What about you?

There isn’t a better teenage mystery drama series atm and maybe even all time , I can’t think of anything that tops it! Nice shape up for season 2 and can’t wait to see it

I’m going to need Netflix to stop trying to pass of near 30 years olds as 16 years olds. 🤦🏾♀️ Spoiler* I didn’t even clock Ward killed those guys. omg I usually like Teen/YA drama but this wasn’t my favourite the acting/directing was very lacklustre. If S2 is green lit I’d opt for a new director.

I know right, like there’s no 16 yr good teenage actors out there lol yeah I so confused about him killing those guys and the sherif knew about it and didn’t do anything? It’ll be interesting to see if Netflix renews it for a S2 with them cancelling poplar shows left and right. Really appreciate you watching my review and commenting!

Yeahh the black cop knew about Ward that’s why she gave him the compass but didn’t know he was responsible for jb’s fathers death. That’s why she was going to arrest him and technically for the death of the man who went to our to death looking for him

That would've been an interesting trial if she would've arrested him after knowing he killed two people and she didn't do anything about it.

Movie Files Oh God I didn’t even notice the horrible grammar in my first comment😭 *went out to sea* and yes would’ve been interesting but now we’ll never know seeing as she’s dead. Would’ve also been good to know the favour ward did for her, that made her keep quiet about the murders.

At the start I did but I felt it was rushed and wasn't earned. I like the 2 performances but wished we had more time with them as a couple with S2 probably doing that.

Honestly this show had way too much hype and it didn't deserve it. Every outcome was obvious, and no 16 year old would ever do anything like this. I wish I didn't spend the time watching it.

Movie Files I was only trying to be funny. No hard feelings tho 🤞🏽I actually like the show a lot. I thought the acting was good and I enjoyed the plot. I did find the end kinda cringy, but can’t expect everything to be perfect. You bring up a lot of great points and I enjoyed ur review 👍🏽
