I have an all MSD setup on a '79 Bronco w/a 351M/400. I live in Alaska. I can drive from Glennallen (5000+ ft. above sea level) to the Anchorage basin (102 ft.). From the coldest winters to muggy humid Fairbanks (446 ft.) mornings in summer, it never sputters or falters. Love it.

So I've got a good size cam in my 350sbc in a 1991 s10. I've dialed the Holley carb in to the point where I genuinely don't believe EFI would make me much happier drivabilty wise. Truck fires up at the tap of the key at 4am (at sea level down here in Hawaii) and again at 4pm after work. Daily driven street engine making an honest 350hp. Now I have the advantage of having worked in a speedshop for a good decade when I was a bit younger and learned lots from old gearheads. I feel like going to EFI on these older engines is like giving up. There is no reason you can't dial in the carb to perfection! That being said, I still have my eye on this kit for other projects and your review was precisely what I was looking for. Thank you very much for that. Your Camaro is beautiful 😍

I got fuel injection 20 years ago the first gen pro flow. Good system a little outdated and hard to find parts for but still runs good. For those that say you can tune a carb just as good well you can with an O2 sensor I've done it plenty times. Only issue is the tune changes with temperature and starting cold will never be as good as FI. This system looks good the price isn't bad and you can control timing with the 6A. I would look hard at this if I can no longer maintain my system.

I just has an Atomic EFI installed on my 1979 Chevy C10, stepside. I had to take it back to my mechanic because having duel fuel tanks made the installation process more complicated. I got my truck back two weeks ago and I am really happy with the EFI system. My carburetor was giving me trouble and I was looking at getting one that was rebuilt. That means getting a carburetor that has been in someone else's' car for the past thirty years. Also, my carb was dripping gas after I'd run it filling my garage with the smell of fuel and making my wife as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Worse yet my truck would sometimes just die in the middle of an intersection when I'd start out from a stop. I also had to pump my accelerator several times to start it when cold. Now, I don't touch the accelerator, I just turn the key and it starts right up, just like normal folks. And it doesn't stall in intersections. It's very embarrassing when you have a beautiful truck and it just conks out. Also, there is absolutely no smell of gas when I park it in the garage and my wife does not worry about the house burning down. It may be a little early to say but it looks like I'm getting better gas millage. I can drive up a mountain at high altitude and there's no need for adjustments. The computer makes all the adjustments needed all the time. Other new carbs were not an option for me as they are not street legal in California except in really old cars that don't need to be smogged. I'm really happy with my Atomic EFI, it performs flawlessly. A carb may have more power but I don't race my truck, it's a show truck really not a race truck. And, it has plenty of power in that 8 cylinder, 350 engine. Way more than I need. I can burn rubber anytime. I'm sure glad this EFI system came along and that it fits my truck. I'm as happy as a fat rat in a cheese factory.

Hi Ernest, where did you have your system installed? I am located in Southern California and was looking to get one installed on my 1982 Chevy K20. I'm having a lot of the same issues that it sounds like you were having. I also have dual fuel tanks and have yet to find a solution on setting up my fuel system to run off both fuel tanks while still being smog legal here in California. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Even just the name or number of the shop or mechanic you used would be great!

I'm thinking of making the switch to EFI myself. The car doesn't like running in temperatures above 80° and after adjusting the carburetor the last two summers and two trips to the mechanic shop with no results, that was $900 down the drain. In my town we're out of the good old boys that know how to work on carburetors so that makes it more difficult. Thanks for the video and review.

I recently installed the same system on my heavy street cam 302 in a 69 MGB. Previously had an eddlebrock carb. The carb was super simple to set up and tune for great power. The issue was on hot days vs cool nights. I could tune the carb for kick in the back power on those cool nights but then would be boggy on those hot Saturday drives. I could tune for the hot days just fine too but it sucks knowing your leaving at least 40 hp on the table when day turned to night. The atomic solves all that. Great power with out the frustrating hot days bog. Yes I feel the carb ultimately made better power on the cool days but the efi is better 80% of the time. Atomic system needs time to learn and internet help is frustrating. If you can understand what the adjustments values represent than it becomes much easier. Also diddo on the fan!

There are people in this comment section that know that it's possible to tune a carburetor perfectly. What they don't seem to know is that tune won't last through a day of driving. As the day progresses and atmospheric conditions change, air density changes too and carburetors don't self adjust to compensate. Now consider air density differences between summer and winter. Yes! you can tune a carburetor perfectly. How many times a day are you going to tune it to keep it perfectly tuned? Fuel injection tunes itself on the fly.

Runs rough and smells awful. I'm wondering if changing to this EFI system will solve the rough run and smell issues. We use this for a family fun car and can't deal with the smell. Plus, we wish to use it in parades and don't want people hating us.

Check programing setting for correct settings, if correct then possible fuel supply issue. May need to increase fuel line size between fuel pump and tank. ( Be sure pump is mounted low as fuel is gravity feed to pump ) Also change filters. Note it is common to lose between 2 and 3% HP with the EFI system. The benefits of EFI far out weigh such a small sacrifice.

I originally was told that the Fitech was a good brand by my mechanic. He installed one into a 1969 C-10 Pick-up and had a whole lot of problems with it. I spoke to a lot of people who install EFI systems and the general consensus was that if you’re not a high tech guy the MSD Atomic EFI would be the best choice for me and would give me the least amount of problems. I am very happy with it and the EFI gets better and better as I drive it because it automatically adjusts itself as needed. This system will work with your 700hp motor.

As long as you install all the parts right it should learn on its own after you set it up with the included controller. At least it did for me with no issues. Make sure the O2 sensor is installed in the correct spot so it can read what your exhaust is putting out and adjust it correctly. You may have to drive it a little while to give it time to learn and set it self as needed. Hear is a link to a proper install video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdN3osR7nrOpZmQ.html I hope this helps you. Do not mount the pump outside the tank, it has to be inside the tank, do not run a returnless fuel system, the engine needs a return system. Also, just go with the one fuel filter. I had to have mine done all over again. I live in Florida, so I don't know if that made a difference. But I had a regular mechanic install it the first time. I later had to take it to Detroit Muscle and they had to change everything. Also, buy your fuel pump separately. Get a high quality fuel pump, do not get the one from MSD that comes with the system.

The kit comes with a modulating pump which is why you can use without a return. Msd instructions do say that in tank is better. I bet 99.9 percent of the people in this comment section daily drivers are fuel injection. If its so did bad and your worried about being stranded turn you cars carb and see how you like it. I have had plenty of cars with carbs and my race car is carb. Can you set a carb to be perfect all year round? No. Will it run ? Yes but it won’t be optimum. Have a motor with a big cam and try and start it and go. It ain’t happening. On a race car it doesn’t matter cause your basically tuning for wide open throttle. But on a street car or hotrod fuel injection is where it’s at. No pumping the throttle, keeping your foot on the gas to idle till it’s warmed up. I did 2 systems on my buddies cars a fitech 600 and a edlebtock e street. Both work wonderful and they love it. Don’t bash it till you have experience with these systems.

Id leave the carb on the engine it came with it was set up for the engine that efi might be making your engine lose power plus if you by a car like that you should know how to tune it

lt does NOT come with everything you need. You still need to buy a CD ignition box. lt won't run without one.
@Moore257
@Moore257 6 жыл бұрын
Jimmy_Volmer um yes it will you don’t need a ignition box to run this efi set up. U can go on MSDs website and read the instruction if u want. The ATOMIC efi can control ignition IF you want but it is NOT required.
@GregHuston
@GregHuston 5 жыл бұрын
This system will work fine with any Ignition. You only need the 6AL (or similar) if you want to utilize the timing function of the Atomic EFI. The $1249 kit has everything to make your car run as long as you have a 4 bbl intake manifold. Maybe you might need a spread bore to square bore adapter if you are swapping over from a Q-jet.

Cool system, but its really not that hard to set up a carb. You have to use a vaccum guage first to know what power valves to use before you start jetting. A out of the box holley dp carb when jetted properly is only 2hp lower than your injection system and it was done on Engine masters dyno on youtube. So you still have a lot of power left in it when you have your carb sent out for work done if you want more power for race applications. The vortec engine has a plastic factory truck manifold that no aftermarket manufacturer has been able to make more power from 0 to 5500 RPMs. Then the aftermarkets edge them out above 5500. So unless you are racing high rpms, guys are wasting thousands of dollars.

Even though it’s false Info here the atomic efi can control timing through the hand controller as well A/F at idle cruise and WOT also can control nitrous boost timing electric fans and so on this is great bang for the buck and does a lot a carb cant

This system is $1000 less than that. FiTech has horrible customer service and most of the time it won't run right unless you have a single plane manifold.

You start off with a beautiful classic car and you change this and change that and you end up taking all the things that make the car beautiful. I hate seeing this at car shows. It just not the same. I have 5 classic cars. A 1968 chevelle 396. A 1969 convertible Firebird 400 4spd. A 1978 Trans am 400 4spd. A 1987 Buick Grand National. And a 1959 Chevy Apche. I will not change anything. It takes away from the car.

Steve Adams can the carb control your fan settings? Control you NOS? Control boost? Allow you to make timing changes on the spot in a few seconds and not need a timing gun? Control AF at cruise wide open and idle? Self correct for a aggressive cam?
