It ran out of time to properly address the potential phase shifts from crossovers so that topic will be in a fallow up video. EQ cuts at the crossover frequencies can reduce build up and overlapping frequencies caused by crossovers.

Whoo. Thanks for the introduction to Kolin MB! I was unaware of this compressor until now. I feel like I'm going to like this one. Ott on the other hand is a bit much for me, I've struggled to make it work. I like the fun tone shaping, but it does weird stuff to the phase.

Great video as per usual. One suggestion if I may - You're showing how to apply these tools to kicks & guitars (I'm halfway through the vid). It would be amazing to take a moment and justify why we're reaching for MB comps in each scenario. Before we start seeing where to place the crossovers, what is it about the kick and acoustic guitar that calls for MB? Cheers Audio Mountain! :)

The test case with kolinMB on bass highs is huge ! Thank you. I have this plugin but could not get the goods of it so I was barely using it until this one moment at 18:00 when you start to crank up KolinBM high band compression

Depending on the strength of the input signal you may have to crank up one of the bands to get compression. If you crank up the input signal too much then the low frequency band might be over reactive, so you aim for that balance.

I was just doing some experimenting with a multiband compressor. I generally like to avoid them, because it feels like I'm playing with soms sort of dark magic. Occasionally though, just throwing one on a track or a bus can result in greatness, even while I don't really understand how.

They're pretty complicated, and honestly it's hard to put into simple and usable terms. I plan on going deeper into it soon. Thanks for watching!

highly educational, the only thing frustrating is that there is such a subtle or indistinguishable diff im able to hear between bypass and effect, you do have a special talent.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your wisdom. I admit I often can't hear much of a difference when you bypass the plugins, but maybe I shouldn't listen to it on my small Apple standard headphones. You and many other mixing engineers often mention "phase issues". I have only a rough idea what that could be, so I wanted to ask if you can make a video on that. maybe explain to what to listen to in order to hear these phase issues, and maybe a visual tool (phase meter?) that can show such things. And of course what is causing them and how to fix/prevent them. Thank you. ♥

I appreciate your feedback, and yes, you'll want to listen on good speakers or studio headphones. Earbuds don't have a good frequency range.

I meant to get into phase issues more in this video but the topic got sidestepped because the video was so long. I will do a video on phase shift eventually. Phase shifts sound like the timing is slightly off. Hope that helps!
