For everyone saying 'one hit wonder', just remember, you're only talking about YOUR country! There are many many other countries around the world where Mungo Jerry had plenty of hits, & the singer, Ray Dorset, is STILL in the business, 50 years later, writing & performing!! 'one hit wonder'? Yeah right!!

Lord the memories of highschool when this came out . Cruisen in my 62 Chevy Sports Coupe ( fire engine Red and chrome wheels ) after classes listening to this song .

Mungo Jerry weren't a one hit wonder in the UK they had quite a few hit songs in the early to mid 70's. The lead singer is Ray Dorset who is still preforming (when he can)

So many comments saying Mungo Jerry were a one hit wonder, they weren't. In the UK they had loads of hits in the early to mid 70's and the lead singer Ray Dorset wrote hits for others. They might of had one hit in your country but calling them one hit wonders would be like me calling John Mellencamp a one hit wonder as he had only one chart hit in the UK so try to remember that KZfaq is worldwide 🌐.

Check the band out they had loads of hits and definitely not a one hit wonder. The lead singer also wrote hits for other artists.

That's pretty odd u would say that about audio as opposed to video. When that song was released, we had no idea who made up the band or even what they looked like until way later. It was all radio play and we loved the song. 'Course, it came out in summertime so it was relatable to our activities. It was a cool song to play at backyard parties, to dance to. It was number on charts around the world and became one of the best-selling singles in music history! I still love listening to it, just to get my blood pumping. Has remained in my Playlist all these years...even my 17-yr-old granddaughter loves it. A fun song!

It's "front porch of a river shack" kind of music. I'm from New Orleans, and there's a kind of 'cajun hillbilly/backwater' style to the simple kind of music people make at home. I lived in a house like that til I was 5 years old, and it just kind of lives in your soul, separate from the music we appreciate from our 'minds'. I've never really cared for zydeco 'to listen to' as a music-lover, but whenever people are making it and i hear it live, it just kinda gets me.

I'm old enough to remember when this song came out. A good mood summer hit. The first time I heard it, I thought it was still quite funny, but then it ran again and again on the radio and I got it over very quickly. I can't think of another song by Mungo Jerry for a "second chance" off the cuff. (and I can do without it)

I think it was the lead singer of the progressive rock band Yes who said that they would constantly be rehearsing, every minute of the day to get their sound perfect. He said one day he was completely sat down when Mungo Jerry opened for the band and he had the audience in the palm of his hand playing just using a washboard.

The keyboardist always reminds me of Wolfman Jack (in appearance). This is such a catchy tune.

This particular song was HUGE when it came out in 1970. Probably as huge as "Play that funky music" from Wild Cherry, a few years later. This was one of them bands that you might call "one-hit-song", then the band goes into oblivion or hardly make anything better.

They had many hits all around the globe and the lead singer is still going. He actually wrote a song for Elvis but he died before he could record it. It was eventually eventually given to a singer called Kelly Marie who made it into a huge disco hit "Feels Like I'm in Love" which is still a huge gay anthem to this day so I would hardly call them a one hit wonder.

...I could've sworn this was the Lovin' Spoonful. (Hit them up sometime. "Do You Believe in Magic," "Summer in the City" and "Did You Ever Have To Make up Your Mind" sound like they're by three different bands. They are not.)

Goofy as hell, I know... But catchy and fun! :) It's scary, but I remember when this song came out and my friends and I looking at each other and saying 'WTF?' and then we listened again... a couple times. It was fun. :)

This is not a well crafted song or the kind of song you break down into it's individual parts. This silly song does however give off "youthful super summer vibes" that people still relate to 40 years after it was released. Some songs are all about the vibe.

What an odd left field choice for someone to request. It's a fun little summer song from my youth, but it just rolls along and there's no real dynamics or transitions, and the break is uninspiring. You were polite, but I knew it wouldn't grab you. Having said that, it's a good mood, harmless, catchy song, and probably didn't take him long to write, but it was his biggest and most enduring record and made him popular and hopefully a lot of money over the years.
