I think if we want to take the negative interpretation, it sound like contradicting But maybe not In 12:111 the context at the beginning is the story in the quran In 3 : 7 the context is verses in the quran With positive interpretation, maybe it can be like this - The quran explaining all things in human world (well the context of 12 : 111, is the story within the quran) - not all in the quran can be explained by human (because certain things in the quran is literally not about human world - like alif lam mim or yaasiin - the context of 3:7 is verses in the quran ) Maybe its like syllogism - all birds are animal - not all animals are bird

See the context 12: 111 begin with "in their stories..." 3:7 the context is verses in the quran "It is He who has sent down to you, the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise..." I think you must see the whole verse, dont cut it If you cut it, you must be fair - this book explain all things for human - in your translation, 3:7 said "elusive", it means difficult to understand. This book explain it, "you know, there is some verses in me that you will not easily understand". So the book explain it to the reader, even warn that the reader will not understand it. If you see in the beginning of chapter 3, there's alif laam mim. Literally it means alif laam mim (im not talking about the tafseer or the interpretation, just literal alif laam mim). It can be translated. But for the interpretation, this book explain it to you in verse 7, some verses elusive (not easy for you to understand). For full understanding, only Allah knows best (it is still 3:7 translation) See the whole verse, dont cut it, be fair and sincere
