The XJ front end is installed and looks great! I took an 86 Jaguar front end and modified it for airbags to fit under my 49 Chevy 3100. Sorry it took a while for the update. I tore a tendon in one of my fingers bending brake lines but the motor is going in next!

Garage buildz. If you remove the bottom plate on your lower A-arm. Buy 3/4 inch longer bolts and buy or make 3/4 inch bushings. This will drop your ride height and you dropped height down 3/4 of an inch more. Drop the air out of your bags. Measure how far off the ground it sits. Then space your lower A-arm plate down to get the exact height you want to be off the ground. If you are an inch now. A 3/4 longer bolt & a 3/4 spacer will sit you right at a 1/4 inch off the ground. I'm using grade 8 bolts for this spacing though. I had changed everything to stainless steel. Polished it all. Then found out stainless is not as strong as stock grade 5 bolts. Oops. 🙄 I reinstalled all grade 8. I'll either have all bolts chromed or powder coated. Not sure yet. I won't get much done on it during the rainy season. I've been putting my Harley back together..

Can I have some pics of how the axle is mounted to the rails pls. Did you weld it or make brackets for the bush mounts etc?

Thanks for a lovely video. Please advise how you find the axle centre line on the frame rail . Are are any markings, rivets or holes one can use . I hear you set it half inch back. Advice is appreciated. Thanks

Ray Maharaj best way is to take a long straight edge or square tubing and line up your OEM axle. And transfer to frame. From there you can measure back to that line for the front spring perch hole and make sure they are equal on both sides. You can choose if you wish to ias your centerline foward or back on the look you wish to achieve.

I know you did this install years ago. I had a question for you on the jag front clip. Is a xj8 comparable? They seem to be the same width and have a coil spring set up. I am having a hard time finding the older cars.
@garagebuildznfab2861
@garagebuildznfab2861 4 жыл бұрын
The beauty of the xj6 is how wide the spring buckets are set so you can really set your original frame low on the subframe. The xj8 looks like they widened the a arms so the spring perches are inset more. I can’t answer for sure but it looks like a lot of work to try and make the xj8 work. You would be better off with a mustangII variation or just keep looking for xj6 .

Garage Buildz n Fab thanks for the info. I see a lot of people talking about the xj6 but no info on the xj8. My measurements showed to be the same but I missed the mount spread. Thanks for the input and I will see if I can find a xj6 or just settle for a g body clip. Great video and install btw.

shortcut- stylz I compromised with getting the subframe as close to the frame as possible where I can build proper mounting plates but also a tad of kick up so I can get a little bit of caster in the spindles.

It's just what I've been looking for, as I'm about to put a Jag front end under my '50 Buick. Any way I can get your contact information? I'd love to "pick your brain" a little before I jump into this job. Thanks! Tom

@@garagebuildznfab2861 that's a pretty big bag for the jag. Spring pocket. Are u sure it doesn't rub anywhere? I'm not sure of my name brand I have. I'm putting Jaguar xjs front suspension under my 1973 Ford F100 . I've got it welded in. I'm just starting to pre-assemble it now. I'm away from home this weekend. When I get home Tuesday. I'll find the name of my bags. Mine also have a bump stop built in side of them. I bought a set of the 2500s I just thought they were to close to the spring bucket. Very nice job though.

shortcut- stylz google Ford F-100 Jaguar swap IFS. This is more of a ford swap than a Chevrolet swap. Several sites will P.O. up. I’m sure you are pretty far along by now.
