I always love the videos about using materials up that have been left over. The finished product looks good and with a bit of paint on the tin roof then you would never know it wasn’t all bought new. I also loved the dancing knees in your last shot as you explained your injury. You should make that your signature exit scene.

I'm all for using what you already have instead of throwing things away and buying new, so great job. However , sorry to be all health and safety about this, I think that corrugated metal roof edge (at the height that it is), needs some kind of rubber or plastic beading on it in case someone hits their head against it.

Keith, I chuckled aloud when you scavenged the tin roof panels and concrete blocks from various locations around your property. I'm glad I'm not the only person trying to conceal construction materials in various locations around the yard, including concrete blocks, rebar, and bright orange construction fencing. The log store is beautiful. I love the color. I hope the back continues to heal.

I use a water butt as well and my first one was roughly the same size as yours. It was nowhere near big enough and we now have a second one in tandem. If you have the room I’d go for one that’s twice as big and use the smaller one on your shed or somewhere. In fact, get one for every down pipe you have. And you still won’t have enough! Great wood shed though. 👍

I would strongly recommend a shear attachment for your drill over the angle grinder for cutting corrugated steel. One of the best investments I ever made. They are sold as suitable for an impact driver but in my experience that just makes them bounce around too much and it was much more successful in the drill.

as the sheets are galvanised will need an 'etch' primer to make the paint stick. Now if the surface rusty sheets had been used they could be painted without needing expensive primer as paint will grip the rust roughness.

You are breaking down pallets the hard way. The easy way - and I speak from experience - is to use a brick bolster to open up a joint by a couple of mm, then whizz through through the nails with a recip saw. Bosch blades "for wood with nails" are my favourite. When you dismantle a pallet this way, you will save every single slat. Your forthcoming building work will provide you with lots of pallets, so I hope that this tip is as useful as it is timely.

Timely video Keith, my Mum has a log store I built from pallets a couple of years ago but it is only half the size it could do with being. I'm in two minds whether to just extend it or build a whole new bigger one, unfortunately I don't have the option of a load of existing wood to use up so it will need to be bought which ever route I choose.

the roof of my log store is also made from reclaimed corrugated sheet. Most of it, the galv had worn away and it had started rusting. to get a bit longer out of it before i need to spend money, i just gave it a good thick coat of black bituminous paint. it said on the tin that it was ideal for rust proofing tin sheet, and it helps warm up the wood store (mine is rather more enclosed than yours) to dry out the wet wood nice and quickly

Thanks for sharing. I built a summer house and used the same "Willow" colour. Years ago, I lived next door to someone who built a variety of sheds, log stores etc., and who used any old scrap of material that he could find, including copious amounts of corrugated steel. Consequently, his back garden wouldn't have looked out of place in Soweto, and I've had an aversion to corrugated steel ever since. In my opinion your log store would look much better with roofing felt or featheredge boards, even though that might cost a few pounds.

If you cleared out the space where the salvaged timber and tin were and the built something similar (with the salvaged timber and tin) you could make a narrow wood store. Something not too deep may have it's advantages to get wood out easily. It's probably the most impractical suggestion anyone has ever made, I think.
