Kara no Shoujo is the series that made me a fan of Visual Novels. I personally found it doesn't use its adult VN medium as a crutch, but genuinely makes use of it to weave an emotional experience you can't get anywhere else. And KnS2 is such a hidden gem--not just my favorite VN, but one of my favorite video games of all time in general. FWIW, I've recommended this series to a lot of people who aren't into VNs at all. And once they took the plunge, KnS2 joined their list of favorite games as well!

I Actually like reading a bit of horror, but what gets me is the gore, and that is what has stopped me from reading stories like this. It is trauma of a very good visual novel, and I would probably have this on my to read list once I am confident enough. An amazing review by the way, and I hope to see more!

just finished the second episode and I'm not okay... Weirdly enough it isn't primarily the plot that's making this series so absorbing to me but pretty much everything else - especially the character writing. Hope we won't have to wait too long for the last episode.

Hey man i remembered playing the first one ages ago, and I've pretty much forgotten everything about the game, can you recommend me any recap or summary video about the first game so i can catch up to whats happening? or does the 2nd game recap the first story for you? or maybe its self contained enough that its unnecessary?

i played it years ago. Didn't know they remastered and renamed it. You barely got to see your MC's face (never got a clear look at it) but now he has a sprite. Anyway, it was alright. Was loaded with h-scenes that seemed to occur so randomly. It was a turnoff tbh.

As someone who is interested in this series but who hasn't played it yet, should I go for the original Kara No Shoujo, or for the newer The Shell: part 1 inferno? If I go for the original, will it flow well into The Shell: Part 2? Sorry if this is answered in the video, wanna save until after I finish reading

Cartagra happens before the events of Kara no Shoujo and is nice to know to understand some of the backgrounds of the side characters, but it's not completely necessary. I myself am waiting for the remastered version to be translated into English

It would fully recommend it. While the actual mystery is self-contained, this is a direct sequel to the first one

@@michaelkoltakov3501I don't think Cartagra is that relevant to the grand scheme, what with its characters mostly out of the picture or on minor supporting roles in KNS 1/2. Worth a read, but not necessarily the first one to go with.

How good is the English Steam translation though?

It's good, on par or even better than old MG translation. it was translated by Lemnisca/John Hopper and they know what they are doing. While MG TL was good, new TL has better wording in a lot of cases.

But where's the mystery? If you play KnS 2 right after the original, you can realistically pinpoint major culprits in the goddamn prologue and on top of that the opening itself spoils "the main mystery" as well.

Too bad part 2 is just too padded for its own good, especially with the start in that village. Did we REALLY, for one example, need that, ahem, brother-sister bonding scene which likely got the game canned from Steam? I think their relationship was established well enough in 1 (hell, it was spelled out), so this, among some other moments, was completely pointless and needed to either be trimmed or cut out entirely. Still liked both parts along with Cartagra nonetheless, even with that little bit of annoyance in the way.

Umineko is a fun series, But the mystery aspect slowly dies over time

Thanks. I’m currently up to episode 5 in Umineko and it’s become pretty slow going. That’s despite watching your fun recap videos after each episode. I’ll prob read ‘The Shell’ 1 and 2 next. I enjoy watching your yearly vids, but great to understand what your favourites of all time are.

KnS may have some awesome mystery and horror, but god if the H-scenes aren't some of the worst I've ever seen, at least in the first game. They actively lessen my enjoyment of the game, which sucks.

@@TheAugustHailV3's ending is pretty what the fuck but I kinda like how of the rails it is. I can appreciate Kodaka's vision and what he was trying to convey with it, but he should have been more committed to making V3 a more sincere entry in the series. Btw I've played like 4 vns so when it comes to Danganronpa I am pretty biased.
