I am a registered dental hygienist and I gotta say it's fantastic to hear you talking about how important oral hygiene is for your overall health! There is a systemic correction between inflammatory cytokins found in our mouth and found throughout our body. I've found that my patients who've decided to change their health habits by eating less sugar, introducing more protein and vegetables have a huge clinical reduction in oral inflammation. In regards to the gingival recession that you were diagnosed with by your dentist, 90% of the cause for my patients gingival recession is due to having an aggressive brushing technique. Most people are in a hurry and brush too aggressively, which can cause gum tissue to be pushed up or down depending on where the added pressure is applied. Using a battery operated toothbrush like the one promoted in this video is a great way to help reduce further tissue damage. Battery and electric toothbrushes create a lavage that removes plaque and debris, so any added pressure would be unnecessary. Thank you for continuing to upload such helpful informative videos! I am definitely a subscriber👍

but isn't it true that once gums begin to recede they don't grow back, correct? so if you already have like gingivitis, etc can you really fix it with improved oral health practices at home? Or are you just keeping it from getting worse?
@tracybenson2586
@tracybenson2586 2 жыл бұрын
@@warmmilkasmr1913 yes that is true, once gums have receded they remain that way unless you get a gingival graft surgery. By using an electric/battery operated toothbrush it can keep your gums from further recession, especially by using a light grasp and lightly brushing gums upward or downward towards midline where recession is present. I've had a few areas of recession myself in the past and just by using a soft bristled toothbrush and changing my brushing technique I was able to improve my recession by maybe a millimeter and has remained with no further tissue damage.

Skincare tip: Always layer products from thinnest to thickest. Serum/oil should go under that cream! Also best to give a product a minute or so to soak in before putting something else on. I usually brush my teeth in between serum and moisturizer.

I had the same issue with my gums about 13 years ago. My dentist did a deep, under-gum cleaning, and I started oil pulling with organic unrefined, cold pressed, coconut oil. He was shocked when I came back in 6 months later and my gums were nearly completely healed. Oil pulling is AMAZING!

I totally agree with you about the “day” starting the night before but that is mainly because I was raised Jewish and in the Jewish culture the next day starts at sunset of the night prior as the “normal” world sees it. But I love it because it gets me to actually focus on what I am doing to support myself for the next day. For your receding gums. My dentist recommend to me years ago to put two TSP of hydrogen peroxide in a water pick and go around your gums and then wash your mouth out with water after. It got mine to stop and to slightly “grow” back and got the sensitivity to go away. I had to do it 5x per week when I started but now I am down to 2x per week. I don’t know if there is any science behind it but it’s what my dentist told me and it worked for me. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Happy to see you and kitty! Wanted to say thanks! Your video on set point and how to correct metabolism was instrumental for me. I have finally gotten myself to be able to eat up to 1400 cals/day which is a huge improvement from being stuck at 900. I’m 4’10.5”, have a chronic illness that makes my lifestyle sedentary more often than not. But since improving my metabolism I have lost 17 lbs and kept them off! Maintaining at my highest cal intake that I’ve consumed in years! That video saved me

@Cedargirl11
@Cedargirl11 2 жыл бұрын
@@MissFitAndNerdy of course! I adapted the science to my eating habits. Most simply … I didn’t entirely reverse diet because I was too afraid of gaining additional weight, but what I did do was increase my calories a little bit every couple weeks and then I would go back down into a slight deficit that was higher than the previous deficit for w couple weeks. Two steps forward, one step back approach. Maybe it kind of was a small reverse diet? Either way, it worked. And I went to been able to do it without you explaining all of that science behind metabolism and setpoint etc.! It took me from November until April to work up from a maintenance of 900 to 1400 but it was pretty easy and not stressful (even with a history of having ED, where increasing calories can be scary and triggering when I have to count them). This gave me a healthy and accountable way to do it without provoking old, unhealthy behaviors ^.^

I used to consider 7 in the morning as the start of the new day because that was when my 24 hour shifts start and end. Now I consider the hour of 0300-0400 in the morning as the witching hour where yesterday/today/tomorrow overlaps. If I'm staying up, I can go till 4 before I've made it to tomorrow, but when it comes to getting up, I think 3 is the cutoff between yesterday and today.

I also love showering at night - I was trying to work out after work but want to try and move to earlier in the day for consistency, but felt like then I'd also have to make time to shower after. Since you shower at night but workout earlier in the day, do you do anything post workout to freshen up or has it been an issue waiting until night to shower?

We are essentially similar that rest is affected bec I still want to productive during my rest time. The books I read are also for self-improvement.. I think I might need to read something else 😅. SLeep is my primary problem. I’m always wired and vigilant. It sucks bec poor sleep/rest affects EVERYTHING therefore affects the quality of my life and overall happiness. 😓
@MissFitAndNerdy
@MissFitAndNerdy 2 жыл бұрын
haha the struggle is real when you're most productive after 10pm 😂 For the 'wired and tired' feeling, that's usually stress related. Depending on your current lifestyle, try reducing exercise frequency/intensity (long walks instead of HIIT), add some meditation, get sunlight in the morning, give yourself an hour of down time before you try to sleep, cut caffeine, look into trying out magnesium/CBD/ashwagandha/GABA, and make sure you have a consistent sleep schedule! Some of those should help :)

@@MissFitAndNerdy I’ve actually bought almost all your supplement recommendations! Haha I even use a chili sleep! 😜 but the 1hour winding down part is the hardest for me as I’ve gotten the habit of watching Netflix with my husband since he’s working all day.. but he knows.. I need to be reading instead of watching with him. Ugh! Well, we rarely watch more than one episode nowadays so that’s quite an adjustment! 😅 i journal and go for long walks , sometimes low intensity cycling and weight training. I never liked HIIT anyway. My body hates me after. 😂 I hate to admit it, but that leaves me meditation which I haven’t fully committed to. Thanks so much!

So when do you usually go to bed and wake up then, out of curiosity? I haven’t considered letting myself wake up naturally but that’s actually something I could feasibly do. I work at 8:30pm and usually don’t go to bed until 3-5am and then wake up 2pm (alarm) or later. I wanna wake up earlier but I’m finding it so hard to go to bed earlier (like 3 would be fine) and then I don’t wake up earlier because I feel like I need more sleep, and also wake up to pee or whatever at night. So I’m always curious how other night peoples sleep schedules are because it seems like you still get up in the morning even after being awake into the early hours of the morning. I feel like I don’t have enough day time so I try to get more done at night and then it’s a cycle I don’t want 🙃

So you don't shower post-workout? Or do you shower twice a day? I could postpone the post-workout shower on arms day, but definitely not on leg days, I get too sweaty. And yes, if I'm going to have a productive/busy day the next day, the day starts the night before. If anything needs to be prepared for the next day, obviously I do that, but I also like to picture what I'll do from the moment I wake up to whatever it is that's keeping sure, and I make extra sure to have a good night's sleep
