Күн бұрынEach morning at exactly nine o’clock, a little-known ritual takes place in grounds of where the Queen is in residence.
For 15 minutes, a lone piper in Highland uniform strikes up a selection of tunes below the monarch's window - a position called the Piper to the Sovereign.
Scottish veteran Pipe Major Scott Methven held the role for four years, a job often considered one of the most coveted in the piping world.
From humble beginnings growing up in Stirling, Scott joined the army and travelled the world. Upon returning from service in Afghanistan, he was chosen to be the Queen's personal piper from 2015 to 2019.

Pipe Major Burns played at the funeral. He became the Queen's Pipe Major in 2021, taking over from Pipe Major Richard Grisdale.

He was the guy who played the Queens funeral as he walked off the final time as her casket was lowered into the vault. Must have been emotional

He didn’t play at the Queen’s funeral. He was no longer the Sovereign’s piper by that point.

What a tribute to the warm, caring heart of the Queen to help in such practical ways when his family was so fragile. I've loved the sound of the pipes since I was young and even better when I discovered there was a tune in there if you listened carefully!!!

Scott,...it’s all Brilliant!! As an old duff piper since mid last century I’m slightly curios..to ask why the ‘reverse’ tuning positions on your bass drone. I understand the mechanics of it..but it’s not often seen. What pipes are you playing that make these positions more enjoyable? Many thanks for sharing your experience.
