I have a 1989 defender I just totally rebuilt with galvanise chassis, bulkhead and rear door. All fixings I replaced with stainless steel . The bumper is the original, galvanised back then and still in perfect condition. Shows its still only way to go in the damp environment of the UK.

Looking good. I changed my rusty original bumper for a stainless steel powder coated one with drls. Had the same number plate conundrum. My ocd couldn’t live with a sticker number plate on a vent as it would look lopsided! Has to be central. I was limited to bumper or roof rack. Ended up going back on the bumper although I was a bit naughty and bought a 75% sized “show plate” that fits perfectly height wise and does not overhang. MOT in July might pick that up, but kept the original for that 1 day a year!

Thanks- That’s not a bad idea at all!

Congrats on the project. The new bumper looks spectacular! But I would put back the rubber parts from the old one on the edges. Just to add some protection.

On my Defender I moved my number plate to the top of the bumper in the style of many Series models and much prefer the look to it being on the front. I made up a 'L' shaped bracket in order to fit it although I suspect you can buy a bracket that does the job. The downside from your perspective is that it would mean drilling into the new bumper to secure the bracket which might (would?) compromise the powder coating.
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Phil- I’ll have a think about how to do that- I wouldn’t want to drill as I imagine it would disrupt my fresh new powder coat but I’ll have a think of Options 👌🏻👌🏻

Hey Doc, great content and useful info re: ORE kit. Very nice. May be premature to mention this (not watched all the way through past the jet-washing stage, but those rubber grommets at the end of the dumb-irons will prise out nicely to allow free flow of debris/water/air. My best, Stu.

You are an inspiration! My recently arrived Defender 90 Td5 will imminently need a new bumper (big lumps of rust on the inside that flaked off with no more than a gentle touch) and something with running lights and way more rust protection would be great. Off for an Alive tuning Stage 1 remap on Monday at a local Alive agent nearby. Sadly Louth is way too far from deepest darkest Dartmoor!

Your new bumper is a great improvement👍 That old bumper is very rusty for a 2 years old, I'm not sure how well I would rate Lanoguard, when you say you have used it to protect the bumper and it looks as bad as that. Have you considered Dinitrol? I probably would have put some cavity wax (what ever brand you choose to use) down the chassis rails, when you had the bumper off/jet washed them. The ORE stuff seems to be fantastic, when it comes to corrosion protection, but it may be worth checking behind the Ring daylights, if water/salt/mud gets in from around the front and becomes trapped there because of the backing cover.
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think I’m going to coat the inside of my chassis a bit more 👌🏻👌🏻

My thoughts also. I too would of thought the Lanogaurd would of protected more.

@@thedoctorsgarage I've had a think about your front Number Plate placement. Because you have a personalised plate, you could possibly have the older style looking Silver Numbers & Letters on a Black plate which would look great and much better, now I'm not 100% sure on this, but it's worth inquiring about. The UK Number Plate size has always been a bug bear of mine, you see so many sports cars and expensive everyday cars ruined by the size & placement of the front & back Number Plates. Your Defender looks awesome by the way and I would love to own it, carry on with the improvements, but there can't be much left to do now? 🤔
@tonypacke69542 жыл бұрын
@@theloneranger2101 Unfortunately unless the vehicle is older than the 1st January 1980, you will have to stick with the white and yellow background type. Talking about the position of the plate, I'll probably fit mine to one side of the bumper, a lot of the Wolf Defenders did this because of the winch position. And Marcus, I would definitely refit the bumper plastic caps, it finishes off the look a whole lot better. Clean the old ones up with back to black or I usually use Son of a Gun, it's old school but works well. The truck is looking good now. Exmoor Trim do a nice set of alloy door handles, could be your next mod.
